@Arantor It's not really that bad. If C++ is daunting, there's C#. If C# is daunting, there's Cordova. Worth a shot, probably.

IDEA
Create an army of 20-30 twitter bots, who crawl for new accounts. For each one they find, they subscribe and like the few initial tweets. Then, each time the person tweets, one by one, they unsubscribe and block them. The victim is left back with 0 followers, depressedly wondering what they did wrong and probably quitting twitter for good.
Profit.

Flaw: Do twitterers get notified when someone blocks/unfollows them?

They dont, I think. But if you only have like 20-30 followers, you'll notice the number going down, right?

Huh. Lemme check my Twitter... Huh. I still have 14 followers (though apparently at least 2 were in the last week).
Edit: Oh hey, Blakeyrat just tweeted. Cool beans.

Careful, collaborators tend to get shot when the war is over.

Do you have the URL for it? Because that's the sort of identifier we're talking about. Our entire points can be summed up as “use URLs and don't work too hard at smartassery”. It should be easy to say something so simple. Well, there's a bit more, but it really comes down to “don't work too hard”.
We don't say anything about what is being identified. Let others waste electrons on that…

I dunno. There are a few domain-specific typedefs that make sense, like defining a FOO_RESULT as a 32-bit int, but most are simply making obvious synonyms for bog-standard types.

Status: Considering my options for converting some .max files to .fbx, without paying the ridiculous prices that Autodesk asks or signing up for a free trial that requires a credit card. The latter may be the least bad of the legal options, but I'll need to see if I can batch together all the .max files I'll ever need during that 30 day period. Haven't these people ever read Joel's essay on pricing?

It can, but it can't read .max files. According to the Internet, nothing can read .max files except Autodesk products, since the values persisted depend on internal constants inside their applications.

@izzion You do realize you're allowed to run the spigot with hot water before turning the shower on so you don't have a bunch of cold water right?

I mean, I do. Technically. I've got Android System Recovery. It's just not particularly effective at fixing my oopsie...
-
@JazzyJosh some shower fixtures will stay in "shower" mode if you forget to turn them back to "spigot" when you finish up and get out. The next time you turn it on, you have very little time to notice and switch it back before cold water starts raining down.
Some of them will automatically use the flow of water to hold the shower side on, so when you turn the water off it drops back to spigot mode all by itself. And if you've gotten used to that... but your vacation home doesn't work that way...

Most I've used still have some water in them from last time so the first splash is always cold

Turbosquid. Admittedly, last I checked, they do have a format conversion service, but not for their free items. Perhaps that's another option.
-
@Groaner well, there's always "download every file in their free database" as an option, as "all the .max files [you]'ll ever need" goes. Just... uh... don't break into your university's server cabinet to do it...

I'm beginning to think that if someone made a Web page that took a .max upload and automated the conversion to a sane format, even if they charged $1 or $10 per conversion, they'd make a killing on all the people who refuse to buy Autodesk products.
Which raises the question as to why this doesn't already exist. Perhaps licensing prohibitions on automation?
-
@Groaner putting it on a server where multiple people can use it? I have $50 that says Autodesk's licensing agreement would require a per head license on that, not a per server license...
