@Tsaukpaetra is your upload speed around 189 kbps? Because that's how fast it's going.

WTH, a lot slower than expected, but still not measured in KBps...

KBps
is that closer to kbps or KB/s?
In between, but if the penny fell it would land on kbps.
Edit: Still, probably going to reset my modem, it's supposed to be transferring at 50 Mbps for the first 20 MB, and 12 for everything after that.

Bottleneck somewhere. Could be at either end or anywhere on the route between the two. Could be caused by crap network, annoying spyware on a router trying (and probably failing) to look inside what you're doing, overloaded system, or DDoS of some other system that just happens to be close in network-space. There's literally dozens of potential problems that could have that effect, and even just identifying the location of the problem (let alone the cause) is probably too difficult due to the number of interacting components.
a.k.a. I dunno lol.

Status: Well, Now I know that why the darn thing is taking longer and longer to process: An error in the combinator causes the package overall to fail, but not the attempted inserts.
Which means that the inserts are never being marked as "done" and so keep trying to get inserted. And the system dutifully complains about duplicate key failures.
-
@Tsaukpaetra You're not using transactions?
-
@ben_lubar said in The Official Status Thread:
@Tsaukpaetra You're not using transactions?
The transaction to insert is working fine, the transaction that comes back and marks the source as done does not. I can't force the receiving end to cancel the insert due to some other component not working right, it doesn't work that way.

You're supposed to make transactions atomic. There's no point in a transaction if rolling it back doesn't put you back in a valid state.

They are and they are. Which is why they are being resent and rejected for already having been sent.
But I can't tell one component to rollback due to the failure of another in another thread, especially as said component has already completed its transactions.

Seriously, trying to get coordinated behaviour across threads with transactions is just asking for trouble and pain. Find another way.

@Tsaukpaetra when converting raw speed in bits to transfer speed in bytes, dividing by 10 is a simple rule that works well enough, because overhead and bits/bytes.

STATUS Annoyed!
Windows needs to update. Fine! An annoyance that I can live with. However two updates in four days taking three hours of my time. Just fuck right off. Warn me at least so that I can put them off and don't nagged every hour to update. Worse still don't fuck about with my settings. They switched the defaults back to their own bullshit apps for reasons beyond my comprehension. Not everything but a couple unpleasant surprises. I also have to find my alt tab program again. I switched to it so long ago I can't remember it.
Seriously. What the fuck!

Status: Been a bit under the weather and took a sick day this week. Now I need to request PTO time through an internal website. Laptop wallpaper is set to a slideshow of landscape pictures downloaded from official MS themes site. Close laptop; take it to meeting. Do meeting stuff. (Can't see wallpaper because 3 monitors worth of windows on small laptop screen.) Close laptop; go back to office. Open laptop. Laptop wallpaper is set to Windows default. ? (Also, Edge's usual "I decided you didn't need these windows any more, so I closed them for you," but that's so commonplace it hardly needs to be mentioned.)

Windows Updates sometimes do that to me. It seems Windows 10 updates aren't old-school updates, they're treated more like a full OS upgrade to a new version and some apps and settings don't survive the upgrade.
My C: drive is littered with "Windows.old" folders.

@ChaosTheEternal I used to work in Gambling (it hard to get a job in certain sectors due to the stigma attached). Every bloody Friday they wanted something going live (game, new betting logic) for Saturday.
It used to break every Saturday afternoon (due to footie matches) when there was some horrific scaling problem. The whole site used to work on one Windows 2003 Itanium server and they wondered why they couldn't have 20,000 people hitting the site at once.

Probably 'd, but

What the heck just happened? I'm getting ready to go home. I close my laptop, and it goes to sleep normally. It's still plugged in while I finish catching up with the last few TDWTF notifications on my phone. Suddenly my laptop turns itself on again. I open it to see what it's doing, but neither the laptop's screen nor the external monitors power up. The CPU fan revs up to medium for maybe 15 seconds, then it shuts itself down again.
