nah the PDO driver
I mean the claim that it's reliable in all situations.
I assumed that the fact the other unnamed user didn't like PDO probably means they use
mysqli
extensively. I mean, there aren't that many alternatives, at least in common use.

Status: Someone in InfoSec must be annoyed at me, Chrome was killed on my station overnight and all of my open network connections were forcibly closed...

@Onyx it isn't reliable, certainly not between vendors and not even in MySQL's case.
If you do a query with a limit clause, the row count is the number of rows subject to the limit.
Unless you
SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS column, column
in which case the row count is the total number of rows matched, not subject to the limit. It ain't guaranteed and the user in question is an idiot.
I'm not a Laravel guy, so I don't know the names of the people involved and, frankly, don't care either... ;)

Hey, when someone gets removed from the company, can we have them removed from the email lists too? I know it's only 2016, but this should be a solved problem by now.
I've received no less than five emails from Postmaster about the missing person, and it's not a good thing.

Bravo!

Double-down on that and watch a stream of someone playing Progress Quest.

Oh we have tons of rules. Lots of them, perfectly codified and documented.
But enforcing them is a manual process for the mods and, well... :effort:

We’re looking now at where this may be coming from. There don’t appear to be any active subscriptions, so we’re checking the package that creates the dashboard to see if the name was hard-coded.

Status: Having a butt of a time trying to figure out why Prod isn't behaving right. In theory all the schema etc should be 100% the same with regards to the specific table that's giving me grief (just double-checked). Yet Entity Framework can't INSERT a value into it because
null
.There's nothing I'm doing different between what works on one server and what doesn't on the other. In fact, I just tried hot-swapping the server name from the Dev config to Prod and it summarily breaks the same way.
Question to the masses: Ideas? Clearly configurations are different, somehow, but what could I be missing? Manual straight-out inserts via hand-crated SQL query work fine, but EF seems to crap its pants on this table for some reason...

Status: My new Surface decided to do a Windows Update in the middle of class. Two restarts and ten minutes later, I go to set my Windows Update to only update when I'm not using it, like my desktop is set to do. Except that option's not there. At all. Apparently my Surface is incapable of waking itself up at 4 AM to do a Windows Update? What the fuck, Microsoft? Fuck you.
So now my Surface is set to bitch at me to manually schedule an update any time it downloads a new one. Thanks, Microsobama.

@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:
Ideas? Clearly configurations are different, somehow
Answer: Somehow, magic:
In neither databases is this actually an identity or autoset, but somehow that's OK in Dev and Test, but not Prod.
Solution: Reset that to the default "None". NFC what the deal is, but since it's a useless column anyways...

It's too late to switch to code-first. Shoulda mentioned it four years ago when my predecessor was doing this as a class project.

Surface
Idiot.
Aside from the stupid Windows Update timing, it's proving to be way more useful for school than my Samsung Tab 3 before it was.
I use the desktop version of the same app I used for note-taking on the tablet, FiiNote, which is super useful on anything with a touchscreen and a keyboard.
In addition to that, I also have a web browser and a processor capable of running it with multiple tabs without bogging down the entire device.
I have Drawboard PDF, which has proven to be really good for completing my homework assignments in the two classes which assign homework as .pdf's filled with questions.
I have Secure Shell SSH, which is all but required for doing work in my class which requires all work to be done via SSHing into the machines in the CS Department computer lab.
And I have Eclipse Neon for my fourth class, which requires all work to be done in Eclipse and submitted as exported Eclipse projects.
Plus I have a proper drawing tablet now.
