They redefine the term "terrorist" or "suspect" once they get the color photos.

The "alarmists" keeping track of the mass shootings aren't the ones doing that.

Where was our gun control thread?
Two hands, right?
http://bearingarms.com/americans-bought-enough-guns-black-friday-create-new-military-branch
A petulant President Barack Obama demanded that Americans talk about gun control over Thanksgiving.
Citizens responded by buying enough firearms in one day to field an entire new military the size of the Marine Corps, with guns left over to equip 2-4 Army divisions.
Mr. President you have you answer.
It was a rousing “screw you.”
-
And that's only based on the recorded number of NICS calls. Some of us are lucky enough to be exempt from NICS and so we're not even counted in those numbers.

: No, I was told a tech was coming out today, but he hasn't shown up yet.
: Okay, it says here that your ticket has been assigned to a technician, give me a second to call him, alright?
: Alright
: How do I put this on hold?My confidence in our IT department is at risk of reaching into negative numbers.

Clearly he was kidnapped as a small child, and only remembers the name of the place. Unfortunately, also can't tell if he's actually arrived there either.

One would think, but the statistics from the alarmists are "any event where more than one person is injured or killed by a firearm".
That is a hell of a lot broader definition of "mass shooting" than a rational person would agree upon.
Very similar to how they changed the definition of "gun deaths" to encompass suicides, those killed by police and acts of self-defense in order to further their cause.
I bet those same people are pissed off at anti-vaxxers who don't realize that the "epidemic increase of autism" in the 90's is 100% attributable to the broadening of the definition of autism and coming up with the autism spectrum diagnosis.
-
Four or more total injuries and deaths seems to be a more reasonable number to draw the line at. (and I have yet to see anyone actually claim "more than one", which is patently ridiculous)

That's a strange system for ticket numbers.
Everyone shares a ticket!

Because you always use that.
It's true. I haven't told an original joke in 20 years.

Status: High frequency sinusoidal tone in my working room at my appartment, loud enough to be annoying.
It's none of my electronics, even went so far as to switch off power to my whole appartment through the fuse box. It also isn't the valves of the radiators (which sometimes also can give off a high-pitched whine when the water flows through them at just the right velocity).
Also, the high frequency makes for very poor directional analysis - i.e. I can't make out where the damn sound is coming from. Just that it's only in this room.

Android phone? Speedy Spectrum Analyser, find the offensive fundamental and then walk around for max amplitude.
-
Huh. You managed to go over a week without one in April. But there's still the rest of December. You might also get a day with at least 6 mass shootings (according to their metric) and win a prize!
Or not.
-
While the sound is annoying, it's currently gone and I'm not paying 5€ just for that :)

It's quite a fun thing to just have around though. Cat purrs have very interesting harmonics.

Did you try sending a password reset email? I don't see anything else in there that might change that.
-
Tried that, it said error. But thanks anyway.
edit: it fail in the user profile, but the "forgot my password" link in the login screen worked

RDP to some other machine, log in, copy the cookie, paste into your work browser?

Trying to decouple my logger from everything. Now I stick the logging function in a global. The actual application can do all kinds of crazy stuff (log to console, file, admin sessions, etc) while the test suites can set up the logger differently and have it just print to the console. I didn't want to have to pass a logger instance all over the place, and setting up
var Log = require('./logger.js');
everywhere made it difficult to have different loggers. Now I set up the global once at app (or test) start.I highly doubt I'll need any globals beyond this...I hope...

This follows the "Singletons are bad, but logging singletons are OK" design pattern. Seems like you are Doing It Right™ to me.

Who the fuck is redefining mass shootings?
Mass shooting: Shooting a mass with a gun. Therefore, any shooting that doesn't use a pure energy weapon.
-
I would not consider a person attempting to kill his or her own family by firearm to be a "mass shooting", not that that happens often. Your definition would include that.
The Mass Shooting Tracker is different from other shooting databases in that it uses a broader definition of mass shooting
You are also using an admittedly biased source (i.e. the /r/GunsAreCool subreddit)
I'm not a gun advocate and I'm not really against guns, I'm just pointing this out.

Even if there really are more mass shootings than there were, say, 30 years ago, that actually contradicts their proposed solution. Guns were also readily available 30 years ago, but according to their numbers, there weren't as many mass shootings. That clearly suggests that availability is not the problem, and therefore that removing availability (assuming gun bans actually did that) is not necessary to fix it.

Discourse does not want to let me see the end of this topic. I just followed a link to what was recently the latest post in this topic. Discourse showed me that post just long enough to see that there was at least one newer post, then jellypotatoed me, a few at a time, 200 posts up topic. No big deal; just click the link again and it will load at the right place.
Nope. I've tried like 4 times now, and each time jellypotatoes farther from the post I want. I'm now looking at a post over 400 earlier than the one I want.
Edit: 5th try's the charm.

Yeah, and that is the problem with these statistics. Idiots read them and think, "Holy fuck! We have had 334 Columbine-style school shootings this year!"
http://watchdog.org/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2015/10/Think-of-the-Children.jpg
You can go through their list and there are tons of gang violence, etc. They intentionally phrase it in such a way as to make each one of them seem like someone shot up a school.

Why the fuck is every node.js installation method other than "build from source" FUCKING BROKEN OUT OF THE BOX!?
You'd think you'd be able to just
apt-get
a package or two, and be set, but no. I've spent the last hour trying to get npm global cache to work on a brand new Lubuntu machine. Ended up hacking it with a half-deprecated env value in/etc/environment
. And I'm supposedly the fucking "expert" at this shit. Some newb who's just getting started would be lost.Joyent's got corporate cash raining on them, and they can't get this simple stuff right. What a bunch of clowns.

...I've never had any trouble with
apt-get install nodejs
other than having to take an extra step to alias thenode
command because apparently some Unix eons ago had anode
command that had nothing to do with nodejs so they use a weird default name to prevent it from clashing with something that hasn't existed since the 80's.

Try:
sudo npm install -g less node
> require('less')
I did what you did, and this didn't work. Couldn't find the global cache.
-
Hmm, the only case I've used
-g
is for nodeunit, everything else I've always installed local.I'd try it but I'm on Windows at the moment.

Ironically, installation on Windows is super easy.

No, I already have it installed. What I meant was I can't test whether what he's doing works on Linux because I'm not currently on Linux.
