You could just reboot the FIRST time you see it instead of procrastinating and then getting mad at a hunk of plastic and wires.

Lol, totally wasn't trying to be metaaboutwith that post, but thanks for catching the error!

Status: I just heard a jet really straining on take off.
That is troubling for multiple reasons: The airport should not have any flights taking off this late, the weather is calm, and most importantly...I live 45 minutes from the airport and have never even heard a jet takeoff from my house.
I am one @psychobunny from some Donnie Darko shit happening.

One shouldn't tempt the fates.
Luckily for you, this particular universe instance doesn't really support that type of stuff happening.

are you in some kind of electronic version of "the place that sends you mad"?

**Status:**Bold text I've got $1700 that I need to spend on "things that can help me in my research" before the end of the year. I've already ordered a new 34" screen, and need your help with ideas for the remaining $850.
Any ideas for toys? Please?
INB4: No, @Lorne_Kates, I am afraid I am not allowed to just give the money to you -- unless I can also build a plausible case that owning you will help me do my research better.

Cluster of 425 Raspberry's !!!
-
Neural network of 425 pi's!
Except that would actually cost like 12000 dollars or something.
But, hey. Neural network of a few dozen pi's is doable for $850, and would probably still be amusing at least, even if it ends up being useless.

A really comfortable chair? I have a Steelcase Leap and it makes working long periods much more pleasant.

40" 4K monitor!

Are you researching ways to increase the efficiency of getting told to go fuck yourself?
If not, order some usb->HDMI adapters and more 34" monitors.

I have no idea what happened to your post. There was a wall of text and then it went away. Kind of intriguing actually.
Oh, looking at raw, Discourse actually rendered all your hidden elements for a while before apparently realizing they're not supposed to be visible!

And/or I typed nsbp instead of nbsp.

No, I passed my SAN check. s/mad/irritated/, though.

Seriously, someone needs to research him. I think a case could be made. If not your department, perhaps sociology or psychology?

I think the worst part about that article is the fact that his job opportunities were purportedly so slim, and that the idea that neural networks are the next big thing in technology suffers a guilt-by-association with the moronic management who don't know how to use them. I actually wrote a research paper recently, criticizing a recent-ish study for drastically underestimating the number of jobs at high risk of being automated within the next 20 years, which the study estimated at up to 47%. With the power of neural networks, it seems likely to me that that estimate is about fifty-two percentage points too low.
Also, damn, I should've cited that article in my paper. I had a section on how neural networks may even be capable of putting authors out of business eventually. :P

One of the greatest tools for psychology research is studying people who are broken, so, yes, a plausible case could definitely be made.

Correction: the most common case for psychology researchers to study is bored CS students who decide to mess with them.
So, on second thought: you are right.

Does he know XP doesn't know how to handle SSDs?

For some reason, they didn't bother to give the minor races any facial animation, so they just kind of have a jaw hinge and that's it.

So, what you're saying is that they have the emotional depth of blakey?

I'd have understood it if they were trying to make a quine.

No and neither did I.
But he's happy, so whatever.
I at least convinced him to leave half the disk free for a dual-boot OS.

He won't be 6 months down the line after XP kills the SSD stone-dead. I hope he keeps careful backups.

Yup, he's using the old dying disk for backups, so everything's cool!

Then again, I've lost track of the mass shootings in the US, because you've had so many of them just this year alone.

It's OK, there are plenty of alarmists that are redefining things and keeping track of it for you. No worries.
