In high school, I created a hidden batch file called "fuck.bat". It would respond depending on what %1 was. Things like

That's rude
And so forth.

Status: LabVIEW. On a 1280x1024 non-widescreen monitor. On a PC that only has one monitor because it's a repurposed server with a BIOS that won't enumerate add-in GPUs. With an onboard GPU that is so old there are no drivers for, so it's using the built-in Microsoft VGA driver and manages about four frames-per-second at the Windows desktop.

Status: Wondering at the choice of 'delegate' in C#. In the ways I've seen it used (not much thus far - still learning) it seems like it should be either
- delegator: because it delegates handling the call to its delegate methods, or
- publisher: because it publishes the events to its subscribed methods.
OTOH, I suppose one could say the delegate type is being being delegated to by the event to handle delegating the event handling to its delegates. Except the event itself is declared with a type of delegate. So really it's the class delegating its event handling to events which use a delegate to handle delegating the event handling to its delegates.
Delegate!

In C#, a delegate is simply a function pointer. Events are lists of delegates.

Status: Implemented User Roles by way of Bit columns in the DB in Entity Framework. Using reflection, I can determine what roles a user has according to the column name and whether it's 1 or 0.
// Translate the Permits object into a role list public string[] TranslateToCustomRoles(Permits userDetails) { //Note that this absolutely depends on userDetails NOT being null! List<String> userRoles = new List<string>(); var properties = userDetails.GetType().GetProperties().Where(x=>x.Name.StartsWith("is")).ToList(); foreach (var p in properties) { bool val = Convert.ToBoolean(p.GetValue(userDetails, null)); //If user has this role enabled, add it to the roles list if (val) userRoles.Add(p.Name.Substring(2)); } return userRoles.ToArray(); }
Filed under: Still can't get concurrency working right, but then again, editing the DB by hand is anyways

In C#, a delegate is simply a function pointer. Events are lists of delegates.
My understanding is that the delegates are lists of function pointers, and events are syntactic sugar for:
- Creating a private backing delegate,
- Creating public methods to interact with the delegate, and
- Creating protected or private methods for the class to use the delegate
The docs seem to agree, though it's not spelled out as such.
-
A delegate has an invocation list internally, meaning that you can:
Func<string> sayHello = () => "Hello"; sayHello += () => "Btw this compiles.";
I don't know what executing this would do, though.

I don't know what executing this would do, though.
Apparently call the last delegate.
+= () =>
is a sure sign something's wrong with your codebase, by the way.

Apparently call the last delegate.
I was wondering about that, but hadn't looked it up yet. Apparently:
[quote=" MSDN"]
When allMethodsDelegate is invoked, all three methods are called in order. If the delegate uses reference parameters, the reference is passed sequentially to each of the three methods in turn, and any changes by one method are visible to the next method. When any of the methods throws an exception that is not caught within the method, that exception is passed to the caller of the delegate and no subsequent methods in the invocation list are called. If the delegate has a return value and/or out parameters, it returns the return value and parameters of the last method invoked. To remove a method from the invocation list, use the decrement or decrement assignment operator ('-' or '-='). For example:
[/quote]So it calls all of the methods, then returns "Btw this compiles."

+= () => is a sure sign something's wrong with your codebase, by the way.
Looks more like the code is ready fight off the gremlins that will inevitably appear in your user's PCs!

nVidia GTX960 4gb (MSI)
I got the MSI GTX 970 4GB last week, I'd recommend it. Consensus seemed to be when I was looking around that the 970 was worth the extra over the 960.

Almost by definition if you spent money there, you didn't get out without being ripped off.

Following this statement, you should have known that this statement:
I thought I got out without being ripped off!
Was false.
Edit: I was 'd. Twice. But in this case, it bears repeating.

If I get a chance to deseat Legionnaire Urvan Steelbane (1:27), what should I do?
[poll name="legionnaire"]
- let him go as long as I never see him again
- murder him because two wrongs make a right
[/poll]
Which of these possible allies should I try to recruit?
[poll name="ally"]
- Fyon the Wraith, an elderly veteran with a sword
- Soure Doomsday, a necromancer accused of treason
[/poll]
Edit: Soure is apparently a mesmer (illusionist), not a necromancer.

I should point out that, if the video is not evidence enough, Legionnaire Urvan Steelbane is a coward and an asshole.

Where's the scarecam, Ben? I wanna see scarecam action.
I always enjoyed Guild Wars 2's method of doing cutscenes. I mean it's still talking heads, but it's a lot more interesting than the Skyrim/ESO style of just zooming in on one character's face.
