It gets a little better once you have the base unlocks done, then you can fit 1.5 upgrades in a single rate limiter! For a while anyway.
Status: Making plans on how to get my guildies to donate enough stuff that we can finish the base upgrades before @ben_lubar's guild finishes their Rate Limiter Expansion.

STATUS:
Router I ordered from Hong Kong has arrived - with a $40 customs fee.
FUCK.
Right now, I'm arguing with the barely articulate seller on eBay. How could have they screwed up so badly that the customs dinged me!? I thought they knew all the tricks on how to pretend they are my granma sending me a gift from abroad.
-
-
ERR_RETURN_TO_SENDER?
Free refund?
Why the hell are you buying a cheapo knockoff of a router? (Home) Routers are cheap as hell,
-
All the ones I like are too expensive (200+ eur)
I settled for the last gen champion - TP Link Archer C7
But even that one is like 160eur in Seribia (!!?)
Found it for ~110 on eBay with free shipping, but if they're gonna ding me 40eur for customs, fuck that.
-
I think EUR customs are a bitch or something. I know that a lot of kickstarted board games are going "EU Friendly" and shipping the games to the EU before sending them out to backers.
-
http://routerboard.com/RB951Ui-2HnD - assuming that you don't need 5GHz Wi-Fi, this will be better in functionality and reliability than the "current gen champions." MikroTik also makes a unit that has an SFP cage if for some reason you need a router that directly interfaces with your provider's fiber or something (not that I would expect that to be a common use case).
Their dual-band home wireless is still a timetable of Soon(TM). But the company itself is European (Latvian) and has a number of major European distributors, so I would expect you should be able to find a decent price.
My interest: I use one at home, and I'm a MikroTik Certified Trainer (though sort of inactive, since I switched jobs out of the ISP industry).

ph33r the @Captain as your requirements designer.

I don't think that'll pay well for too long. More's a pity…

Status: Apparently, someone found the recipe for an admittedly pretty shitty looking shoulder armor skin and posted it on Reddit and now linseed oil and flax seeds have prices that are through the roof.
Also, the login servers are having a lot of trouble keeping up with people switching characters to farm flax seeds, so it takes a few tries to switch zones or characters.

part-time business analyst
Part-time BA so you can still use your brain the rest of the time?
-
Yes, exactly.
The role isn't actually BA as it is known in IT. It's closer to data analyst, with elements of project management and coordination. Specs are important, but the projects are not software.

Very cool. I am happy for you, sir.

Dammit. I spent hours yesterday trying to hunt down some glider-reachable hidden item somewhere to do with Toothless, dragons, wyverns, and/or bats. Turns out the item the recipe was missing is crafted! >_<

That looks... uh... Why am I seeing that, again?

How many products run inside Guild Wars 2? NOW I MUST KNOW.
What is product 3? A soft-serve machine at the local 7-11?

Obviously it's referring to 10 * (1/2) idiot.

It'd be real tough to live in Seattle on $30k.
It's hard finding a nice place to rent for that in the SF Bay area. (I'm lucky, I bought almost 20 yrs ago - my mortgage is less than that. But not by much.)

Bullshit.

#oracleRelevant to being relevant, Oracle continues to suck at everything:
That vulnerability report I linked above? That was one of a dozen of them found in Oracle's flagship software. A dozen found in less than a day. By the firm's interns. Interns who work for a firm that Oracle basically told to fuck themselves off.
You keep being you, Oracle.

Speaking of people on the job hunt, how's it going @HardwareGeek? Have I missed any good news?

Status: Not a fan of RAID-1 after all. One drive failed, and in doing so it managed to corrupt the other drive.
-
it managed to corrupt the other drive
Wat. What did you do? Disconnect the bad drive and then reconnect it again?
-
I didn't do anything. It was an ESXi server on a RAID-1 volume. Seems one disk failed and the machine locked up. I broke the RAID array and now it will boot from one disk but the datastore is totally unreadable. The other disk won't boot at all.
The best part is the dead disk still passes S.M.A.R.T. tests...

Oracle has buggy piece of shit software. Surprised: No one.

Oh, that's just more fallout from this

Status: The thing that always bugged me most about DS9 is the station gets The Defiant specifically to defend the wormhole, but then:
-
They use it to go all over the place for sometimes spurious reasons (like the VERY NEXT EPISODE after it's revealed where they take it to the Trill homeworld FOR A SOLID WEEK! and there was LITERALLY no reason they couldn't have gone in a runabout)
-
When they go places in it, they bring along Kira even though she's not even in Starfleet and these missions (like going to Trill homeworld) have NOTHING to do with Bajor in any way watsoever.
-
When they go places and bring Kira along, they put her at the weapons console! (At least, until Worf takes it over.) Sure Kira's a fighter, but she was infantry and guerrilla ops.
-
-
Yeah, but Kira was just second in command, full stop. She wasn't star fleet, but Riker wasn't a Klingon, and he was still a captain. And Kearn was first officer on the Enterprise.
The Defiant stuff is fair enough. (Your criticisms, I mean)
-
Yeah, but Kira was just second in command, full stop.
Of DS9. The station itself.
Frankly, it doesn't even make sense for Sisko to go on these missions, which is probably one of the many reasons they introduced Worf to the show so he could take command of Defiant.
Do you think the Admiral in charge of, say, Bremerton Naval Base will just hop aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and do a tour because he feels like it? No. Those are totally different positions. And while the same person could graduate from one to the other, you wouldn't simultaneously do both.
-
No. Those are totally different positions.
Well, you know...Starfleet is totally not a military org....hahahaha...sorry, couldn't finish that.
Like just about anything else, virtually no TV / movie depicted military makes sense. The thing that always gets me is how many of the service personnel are dressed in ties on a regular basis. I find that far less realistic than bullshit duty (like commanders jaunting about, as you mentioned) that goes on.

Status: Well.... belgium... aparently Youtube Red is bundled with Google Play Music....
so good: No more ads for me at all.... even though i was okay with watching them* and wasn't planning on signing up Red
and bad: now i'm supporting the youtubers that i had whitelisted for ads EVEN LESS THAN BEFORE BECAUSE YOUTUBE IS IMPLEMENTING THE MONEY IN A COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY BRAINDEAD WAY.... so yay!
/me grumbles and wanders off to see if her favorite youtubers have opened any new pateron/subbable/tipjar like systems so she can help them make the content she likes to watch
* Within reason anyway... as noted elsewhere some channels are super hyper marketized and annoy the crap out of me with their ads....
-
Well, you know...Starfleet is totally not a military org....hahahaha...sorry, couldn't finish that.
Yeah in Roddenbery's vision they're some kind of Robert Ballard expedition that just happens to have photon torpedoes. And they bring their kids along. Because why not.
One of the nice thing DS9 does is throw away almost all of Roddenbery's dumb ideas and introduces sensible ideas such as, say, Starfleet actually building warships to confront their many enemies.
Like just about anything else, virtually no TV / movie depicted military makes sense.
True; DS9 still makes more sense than assigning Starbuck in the Battlestar Galactica remake as a sniper on the moronic logic that if you're good at aiming a gun in a cockpit you'll be good with a rifle.
-
The admirals gave Sisko the defiant to aid the station's mission: maintaining control of the wormhole. It was the station's mission, so it was Kira's, too.
-
It was the station's mission, so it was Kira's, too.
That makes sense in a Combined military command.
-

Ok; that is some logic.
In this episode they're taking it days away from the station to make their presence known at some completely other warlike race's civil war. Explain how that aids the mission of DS9.
Or like I said, LITERALLY THE FIRST EPISODE AFTER THE DEFIANT IS A THING where they take it to Dax's homeworld because she's slightly ill. FOR A WEEK. A WEEK. THEY STILL HAVE THE RUNABOUTS! THAT'S WHAT THE RUNABOUTS ARE FOR!
-
Well yeah, Sisko misused the defiant. But who's going to tell him to stop?
-
Well the Romulans owned the cloaking device on it, they might have been pretty miffed.
-
-
I'm pretty sure that only lasted for a few missions. There weren't any Romulan officers the Defiant after that one mission, I think. Maybe it changed when the Romulans signed a nonaggression treaty with the Dominion.
-
Yeah that was a huge missed opportunity.
But at the same time, the Cardassians (which they made full use of) were far more interesting than the Romulans ever were anyway.

Youtube Red
Did they not run that name by anyone?
if they did they didn't listen to the laughter....
i mean i get where the name came from, the youtube logo is mostly red.... but still...
and of course they implement the money in such a way as to cornhole small content creators and fellatiate the record labels...
i wouldn't be sore about it if my money was going only to the youtubers i watch, but it isn't. it's going into one huge pot to be split amongst all the people who got watched by youtube red holders in relation to how much time they spend watching....
which means that i will be paying for content creators that i dislike in the extreme (PewDiePie for example) even though i never watch their channel. I'd much rather that money go entirely to the channels i do watch (NerdCubed, SciShow, ChristopherOdd) instead.

What exactly is the difference? Do some YouRedTube subscribers pay more than others?
