Tomorrow. I have a consultation appointment in six hours with a sleep center place.
....
Should probably try to get some sleep...

I've learnt how to extract a screw with a broken head, I've added a new tool to my toolbox (which only cost me a couple of bucks), and the new screw (not really a screw, it's the small thingy you use to
purgebleed (edit) the radiator of air, whatever it's called) is actually much easier to use than the previous one, so all in all it could have been much worse.

I have been assigned mandatory training on how to react when someone offers a bribe.
We have a "trade compliance" mandatory training every year or so, I just did mine and it's going to be as useful as yours (i.e. not at all)...
The test at the end was a video of a fake project meeting (played out by two colleagues that I know pretty well!) discussing an hypothetical project, with multiple choice questions about it afterwards.
You don't need to have followed the training to spot the problems when someone says "it's a project for Cuba, don't put it in the system as 'Cuba' but as 'Caribbean region', we're going to use someone from the US but he'll be physically located in Europe, and we're going to be paid in USD but actually the contract will be labelled in another currency. We'll also use restricted hardware built in the US but it's also stored in Europe currently so don't worry about it. Oh, and to clear customs I know just the guy, he's a local who knows who to contact and he'll store stuff in his garage while he fills in forms". Apart from explicitly saying "we'll bribe someone", I'm not sure how they could have made it more obviously wrong.

Status: The local news published my opinion piece today. I expect no response from the town council, but I will just use that to mount further attacks on them. After the next election, my goal is that there will be a new town council instead of the thoroughly corrupted one that we have right now. Preferably before, though.

СТАТУС: Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!
Today is Communists for Indoctrination day here. Thousands of indoctrinators from around the Indiana SSR will be mobbing the Supreme Soviet downtown in their most resplendent Red attire to try to squeeze the deputies for my tax money. I work and park less than five blocks from the Soviet, and traffic is bound to be shit (and forget about going out to lunch). I should just WFH to make more money to pay taxes, right? Well, a large number of indoctrinators from the People's Skools in my oblast are joining the mob, so the skools are closed today, which means my kids are at home with my fellow head of household, so forget about getting anything done at home, either...

And you should. It weighs almost as much as the laptop itself.
I might have finally figured out why it weighs so much (if anyone's interested): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_factor#Switched-mode_power_supplies
To comply with current EU standard EN61000-3-2, all switched-mode power supplies with output power more than 75 W must include passive power factor correction, at least.
Mandatory PFC. So, once the power brick hits the 75W level, it suddenly needs a lot more capacitors (and other circuitry).

Switched off of Octavia after that mission because I was just leveling it.
Might switch back once I get my song:

@ben_lubar If there was an easier way to do an import of mandachord songs rather than manual entry, I'd probably fiddle with it more than I have, but having to enter every note by hand is tedious. Also, I got sucked back into Destiny with the new expansion so I haven't played in a while.

We can't submit our changes until a build passes. Makes it much harder (but not impossible!) to break the build.

There was a time, maybe about 10 or 20 years ago, when there was some leeway on American companies giving bribes in those countries where business is impossible without greasing palms.

Status: spotted the Clouds of Magellan and I'm very pleased. Supposedly the Andromeda Galaxy was also visible, but close to the horizon where there was too much light pollution :( And at that time of night, the entire disk of the Milky Way was around the horizon, so no interstellar dust either D:
for the uninitiated: the Magellanic Clouds are two satellite galaxies of the Milky Way.
Compared to nearby stars, galaxies are all quite dim so they aren't typically visible with even modest light pollution. The Magellanic Clouds (upper left) in relation to the Milky Way (centre):
With Andromeda in the distance and to the right:
Having any sort of grid on those images added too much visual noise, so unfortunately the spatial relations are somewhat lost.

Are you sure about that? Since we're within the Milky Way, we really can't see the structure of it like that from here. Instead, it looks like a diffuse band. Kinda.

Neither of those pictures are photographs; they are screenshots taken externally with SpaceEngine.
Roughly what I actually saw, except a fair bit less was visible:

Very interesting, TIL! (even though I don't really understand the details, but I get the idea)
This means that, widely speaking, it's likely that any charger with an output >= 75W will be large-ish, so if you want a compact (and/or light) charger, you're likely limited to 75W. That is good to know when browsing stuff...

I don't think I've ever stayed in one where I didn't give up and just use my hot spot. Briefly. And then turn off the computer and read a book (or watch TV). Thankfully, I've never done the long-stay thing you're doing!

I turned on the TV for the first time last night. Briefly. 50-ish channels. Not one worth watching.

@HardwareGeek said in The Official Status Thread:
Have I mentioned how much I hate hotel WiFi?
Well, it is almost invariably badly managed (if at all) and oversubscribed. Getting other than that requires that there's a tech support person with proper attention to detail about. (Hotels are genuinely getting better at this, usually as fiber is put in and web proxies get ahead of torrenting tech..)

Life pro tip:- Pack an Ethernet cable
- Locate the shitty WiFi extender bridge in your room (it's probably under the "work desk")
- Disconnect the shitty WiFi extender bridge
- Connect your laptop
- ???
- Unfettered access profit!
This has worked in far more hotels than it has failed in for me.
