Confirmed an entirely unpleasant experience.
I did not have nightmares about bar charts. Instead I had psychedelic dreams about looking for porn magazines in the woods or something like that.

This is another one of those "We couldn't be arsed to make our own error-code lookup table so we just used the System's" cases, isn't it?

apropos of nothing, if you consider the act of making a crochet stitch "stabbing" because you have to poke the hook through the work to make the stitch, and therefore you "stabbed" the work to move the hook from one side to the other......
Then the king sized blanket i made last year had on the order of 100k stitches. I know it has north of 95k, and depending on what exact final border i put on it that's an additional 2-7k stitches.... but since i gave it as a gift, and only have photos of it from before i put the final border on I don't remember the final row of the border that I actually chose....
so In practice i have on the order of 100x as much patience as that crossstitch indicates I do

How to win a battle: Have more lead in the air than the enemy does. Circling around and striking an enemy from the side doing full suppressive fire = fun. Automatic bursts of 7.62 rounds from a battle rifle. I would not stick my head up if I had 8 of those coming my way constantly shooting.

@Vixen Avoiding battle would be the very best, yes. Unfortunately military training tend to not give the option, as they want you to practice being in a battle situation if it does happen.

It took me most of 2 hours to write error_bot support for parameters that are antonyms (if one is true, the other is false; vice versa; if both are set to the same value then error).
-
Fuck me, it's a degenerate case of one-hot values. (From n possible values, exactly 1 is true.)
-
The implementation might actually be simpler that way.

OK, one hot is implemented...
But I also have a use case for zero-or-one hot. (What do I even call that?)

At most one hot.

First degree, so that's something.

There is one big unanticipated bonus for being a guitar/bass player. You build up calluses on your fingertips that allow you to briefly touch extremely hot objects without damage.

You forgot a word. But that's okay. I finded it.
-
@mott555 In theory all you need to do is lick your fingertip, then just brush the potentially hot thing very quickly. The layer of wetness protects your finger and, if it is hot, noticeably sizzles away.
I have never had the courage to try it. I just hold my hand close-but-not-touching until I can feel the heat. If I can't feel anything, it's usually safe to touch it very lightly and quickly.

Status: On the edge. This is almost as run-jump-never-stop as the week before my last convention It's 2AM and I'm waiting for laundry to finish before I can go to sleep. I've spent the last six hours on this freelance project. I've still got a few more hours to go before it actually works. Setting up windows and copying logic from SQL to C# sucks. Before I started working on this, I was taking my phone in and out of airplane mode to thwart recruiters that just can't take a hint about me being in training and unable to listen to their repetitive stuttering demands for more paperwork delivered through what sounds like a McDonalds drive thru intercom.
The last few days, I've also been trying to diagnose a phone problem. For some reason, I kept having the phone shut off at anywhere between 75% and 85% charge. I had been having strange audio problems before that. The usually pleasant female voice in the Maps program would randomly deepen. The popular claim was that lack of disk space would cause this so I had engaged in a multi-week effort to move files onto an SD card. Just in time for that problem to go away, this shut off problem started.
I immediately thought it was the battery and ordered a new one because Samsung batteries are cheap now. Last time I replaced a battery, it just ran down fast, like I could watch the percentage drop to zero inside of 20 minutes. The diagnostic mode on this thing says the battery is fine. I've been able to let it run as a phone for hours. It's always when I use the browser that it shuts off like this. But, then, I was able to run it down to 20% over the course of the day only occasionally using it. I thought it was fixed, went to take some photos for eBay auctions, and it shut off.
The other popular suggestion is that it's overheating. It's not. In fact, it never shuts off when plugged in and it does get a little warm then because it's charging. So I don't know what's wrong with it. I just need to clear enough time in my schedule to make another backup with the USB cable I bought two months ago and promptly lost. Because I feel like I never get time to just stop and sort everything out.
Also, I was offered a contract and the recruiter wouldn't stop nagging me for a starting date. I don't even know if I want the job because there are no benefits and I have a horrible record with being smarter than people I work under on contract. But they won't stop calling me, so I gave them a date a few weeks out just to make it stop, and they're still calling me constantly for something else that I don't want to deal with. I wish I could turn just the phone part of my phone off and still use the internet.

wat. It might cause many things, but random power-off and altered audio rate is not among them...

The explanation I read was that it needed scratch space to decode the audio or something and would use a lower quality voice algorithm if there wasn't enough available. It dropped the slightly British sounding accent and sounded almost like somebody on hormones that's not quite there with the voice yet. I could never figure out a pattern to it except that it never changed in the middle of a sentence. And then as suddenly as it started happening, once I cleared some space it went away.

On some versions of Android there's a "Call Barring" feature, maybe that will help?
If you don't depend on a data connection (i.e. you have WiFi), you can also turn on Airplane mode and re-enable Wifi.

If your free space is so low that that happens, you have much more problems....

Voice guidance for a typical route needs about 1 MB of space. See above.

It was low enough to nag me about system functions not working. Something like 200MB on a 16GB device. I keep meaning to delete Miitomo but haven't gotten around to it.

See elsewhere where I was made fun of for not having a "modern" device with 64 GB of storage. You have my sympathies.

Followup: As usual, it went bad. This time I was prepared by lying down. Went fine. Tried sitting up after. Had time to get and drink a cup of water before going into full presyncope and had to lie down again. Had to stay that way for some minutes before the feelings disappeared enough that I could get up, with lower arms and hands feeling all weird as usual. Walked to nearby gas station to get breakfast which I ate on the bus to work. Will spend two hours at work to do the needful and then go home, because I am not feeling well at all.
Also, my weight is starting to get uncomfortable close to triple digits. Need to start working out again.

If not (or if refurbished), the cell chemistry may not match what the protection circuitry expects. Lithium chemistry changes have raised the cell voltages (and thus energy density), but that also means that dropping in a new cell to a refurb battery pack may miss spectacularly.
Another fun one is un-calibrated protection ICs, which may have their coulomb counter wildly off.
