@blakeyrat Ah yeah, you get a lot more rain there than we do in New York. Its literally only rained once or twice since summer started. Granted, that's not normal for us, but still. Not to mention the very hot temperatures.

@boomzilla said in The Official Good Ideas Thread™:
Possibly over hyped in that article
Not to mention that the awthur kudnt spelar, graming or punkchooait.

Tomatos HATE water on their leaves.
Awe crap, that makes me feel a little guilty for raining on the suckers when I was supposed to keep the family garden alive for a week when everyone else went on vacation.
Well, at least I did it at 11pm, so maybe it wasn't too terrible for them...
-
I've got a patch of my garden earmarked for a vegetable patch as soon as I get the time to clear it. I did a little bit today and I'm going to try to do a bit each weekend whenever I get the chance. Looking forward to having my own vegetables.

What are you planning to grow? Some things are just utterly awesome when you grow them yourself, and others are just plain expensive to buy in despite being good.
-
@dkf got a load of seeds from a charity shop that were past their sell by date so I'm going to start off planting them and see what takes. I'd like peas, I have good memories of eating them straight off the plant in my dad's veg patch. I'd like to give onions and/or shallots a go too

gardened tomatos are so much better than store-bought. Like millions of times better.

Also it can't grow anything vine-y, like tomatos or peas.
Does it say that somewhere?
Can't grow anything viney? Have you ever seen pumpkins growing?
I actually find it a bit hard to believe... 1 or 2 pumpkin plants would surely take over that entire little rectangle of soil.

@anotherusername said in The Official Good Ideas Thread™:

I have some in my garden right now. They grow OUT. Tomatos and peas grow UP.
-
<blakeyrat>You said "anything vine-y". I did not know that you meant "anything vine-y that grows UP." I am not a mind-reader.
</blakeyrat>There are short varieties of tomatoes that would probably work.
-
Garden fresh tomatoes are nice.
Except you inevitably end up with infinitely more tomato's than you can actually even dream of consuming. Ditto cucumbers. Ditto peppers.
I don't do roots because raisins.

Juice them? I'm not familiar with the whole process, but that should help compact your storage of them at least...
-
@Tsaukpaetra I just chuck them back out into the yard.

That works to! :)
-
Of course, I didn't do a garden at all this year.

Random tomato plants everywhere!
My wife makes relish with the excess tomatoes. It's awesome.

@Tsaukpaetra I dont' know, you've got dark all over the place, you broke the emoji in my post, but it's working in the preview of your post where you've quoted mine? And also in your post once posted!
NodeBB?

@flabdablet Somehow, I get the feeling he'll regret that some day.
-
Why do we even have a thread for things that don't exist?
Filed Under: I am pretty sure anything any human comes up with should be in the Bad Ideas thread...
-
@flabdablet Wow I thought it took a long time for me to park my car, with my slide-open garage door opener. This guy spends like half his life parking.
-
@blakeyrat He's certainly had more practice than the Porsche guy (can't be arsed finding the original link, but here's an update)
-
@flabdablet Pretty ingenious, but based on his driving I wonder how long it'll be before he either missed the ramp one day, or else goes shooting off the back of it.
I was wondering what the ramps at the back were for--they seem like an extra complication--but I guess it's there to try to make the nose a bit lower--looks like without that the front might not fit in that space, but also that if the car was a couple inches longer it wouldn't fit there at all.

six will get you six bob tuppence that he bought the car to fit the space, not the other way around.

Looks like the underneath of the staircase has had a bit of carving-out done as well, perhaps in an earlier attempt to deal with the same issue.
Also, speaking as another increasingly old fat man with increasingly creaky knees, raising the entry/exit position for the driver's seat in a small car like that can only be an improvement.
-
@flabdablet Yeah. When you get right down to it, though, he probably could've remodeled the staircase to give himself more working room. Or better yet, put motors on it so it lifts up out of the way. That'd be bitchin'.

It's a good idea... until you realize that merely tapping the thing could literally destroy terabytes of information...

To say nothing of my bank account... They mentioned the 16TB version is currently retailing for $10,000+.

@DoctorJones I'd rotate that?

@anonymous234 It's the Tap symbol from Magic the Gathering.

@DoctorJones I thought that one was just an arrow.
-
@aliceif you're right, it's not the exact symbol because of copyright.

The text kept on wiggling, not sure if it was because I'm on mobile, but it made it difficult to read...

@cvi the link has annoying music, why is it a good idea?

@cvi did I just accidentally launch a keygen?

You're allowed to say "fart" here. You don't have to resort to esoteric euphemisms.
-
@da-Doctah
That takes all the fun out of launching a keygen in your general direction!

Not just mobile. FF>22 on Win7 and it was jumping around.

@aliceif It's shifting around a few pixels for me, but after our time here with , I had gotten used to much worse. At least in the vertical direction.
@anotherusername ... ehm ... let me think. It has a noscript section? Not sure anymore, it seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm still amused by it, though.
