Some guy said in Pranking My Roommate With Targeted Facebook Ads:
It began innocently enough with me snagging the email address he had listed on his Facebook profile, adding it into an Excel worksheet, and exporting it as a .CSV file. I then used the Audiences tool in Power Editor to upload the file to Facebook as a Custom Audience labeled ‘My Roommate’ as you can see below.
-
@clatter it's a CSV file with only one column, so the difference is...?
-
@anotherusername I still maintain that pasting one email address into Excel and then exporting it to csv is .
-
@clatter yeah... what happened to the wooden table? Digital camera? Fax? OCR?

OCR?
Speaking of, when converting an image pdf, word silently performs OCD on it in order to make it "editable". The results are... Less than astounding. I would have thought they just sucked up a company like ABBYY (or something, not sure if that's how it's spelled) and used that...

Microsoft never uses good things from other company: they "suck up" the company and then remake its products in their own crappy image. Visio, Skype.

I feel like I should cross post this here. Context: Jeff is building an Android app for Discourse.

Given Jeff's love for gamification, there will probably be an in-app purchase for TL3 at some point.

@aliceif should have drilled further in, would have been able to use the drill as a power adapter and charge the phone through the drill bit too. Extra double purpose socket then!
-
Interesting idea for a forum plugin
- an IA that detects the different sides in a discussion and clusters posters associated with them
- at the thread bottom a sides score, calculated from the likes
yeah, I think I posted in the right thread...

I want to buy a fleet of junker cars. And by junker, I mean junker. $50-ish level. Barely works.
I then want to drive around the parking lot of the local malls and grocery stores.
If I find someone parked stupidly-- who am I kidding WHEN I find someone parked stupidly-- blocking a fire lane, parked across three spots, etc-- I'll call in the fleet. Box them in and abandon the cars.
Or maybe just kinda BUMP them into a legal spot.
Or park on top of them.
Oh no my junker car got damaged, boo hoo!

For extra evil points, use cars that have smoke coming out from under the hood.

😈 idea: shipping a package, except the address label is actually a cleverly disguised e-ink display, that changes to a completely different address every 12 hours or every 50 km (with a built in GPS tracker).
See how long you can keep it going around in circles!
Inspired by AWS Snowball which is an actual device with an e-ink display for shipping.

God, how I hate rubber-banding. I remember NeedForSpeed games where I was in first place when suddenly the cars which were a whole minute behind me were catching up inside of 10 seconds (must've hit Mach 1 at some point). I then usually did some minor stupid driving error and suddenly was in 8th place. Usually happened on the last lap, 100 meters to the goal.
-
@Rhywden That's why I prefer sims nowadays, as in those, when you're a minute ahead, you're really a minute ahead.

That might be explainable by the speed variation. I mean when you are a minute ahead, that's taking your current speed and their speed current speed to figure the time for them to catch up if you slow down or they speed up just a little; so if you make a mistake that slows you way down, then suddenly the time differential drops a lot, and the distance that would have taken them a minute to catch up only takes a few seconds.
Maybe...?

No. They caught up way before I made a mistake. Also, when you're on a straight stretch of road, going at nearly max speed and you still see the display going from "+1 min" to "+15 sec" in about 5 seconds, then you know that something is fishy.

Could've been that the other car had gotten stuck so its average speed was really low when it said the differential was +1 min, when it actually wasn't that far behind you. Then once it started moving again its average speed was back to normal and its differential was actually +15 sec.

Ah. Well, assuming your car wasn't actually a lot slower than theirs, disabling "catch up" in the options and/or increasing the difficulty setting (which basically would do the same thing) might have fixed that issue. IIRC, the games aren't actually terribly helpful with determining who should receive the catch-up assistance. If you were a really bad driver, it helped keep you in the race; but if you drove well, it just kept the competition right on your tail.
source: playing a lot of NFS and being more fiddly with gameplay settings and in-game configuration than most people (e.g. I spent more time in the mechlab in Mechwarrior 2 than actually out shooting other mechs)

@anonymous234 Just the usual foodstuff shenanigans.
Like, being able to write "all natural" on strawberry joghurt because the strawberry flavour comes from mold and that's natural, after all.
Or when you say that the honey is from "regional producers" when in fact it mostly stems from outside the EU - the "regional producer" only does the bottling.

To be fair, the distinction between "natural" and "artificial" is often very arbitrary.

Not so much the lack of planning in the scooter episode. How can you say "we're going to ride our scooter out of town and see if our EM gun can wreck it" without at least thinking "maybe we should have some other way of getting back in case it works"?

No, it's the lactate acid in your muscles that hurt after jogging. So partially right...

Renfe, the state-owned train operator in Spain, has mysteriously stopped charging passengers to board the train at some smaller stations. Sounds nice right?
Turns out it's actually part of an evil plan. The rules say they can't remove a station as long as some number of people still use it. By letting people in for free, they are no longer selling any tickets. So now the official statistic says "~0 people used this station in the last year". The station closes.
Crafty little fuckers. Imagine all the bullshit they must be getting away with in other places.
