Were you expecting attachments to be silently dropped?
vCards? Yes. They're really signatures, not extra files.

Ah, but if the email client didn't append it like a signature, and indeed encoded it like a mime attachment, whose to say you didn't really want it to be attached to the post? Are we expecting discourse to parse all attachments for attachment suitability now? how about a whitelist? Or blacklist?

:codinghorror: always claimed that signatures are Doing It Wrong™. He probably thinks the same thing about email signatures.

Jeff went from a platform where discussion is actively discouraged to one where it's actively encouraged within his idea of how humans work. I'm sure it goes without saying that he don't know shit.
-
Yes, the system is slowly dying a really interesting shade of green. Though that may be an improvement from the orange it was a month or so ago!
Discourse has nine fives of uptime.

Fuck you, Canadians aren't supposed to be funny.
Not when you're laughing with them anyway.
-
No confidence.
The caching is horribly wrong.

So, what you're saying is... if Jeff came back and offered tons of DiscoBuxx cash to everyone, then there'd be more confidence in Discourse?

Confidence? No. But a thousand kilograms of £20 notes would still be very acceptable. (No sequential serial numbers, please.)

Discourse has Nein! Point five of uptime.
Discoures has five minutes of uptime.
Discourse is going to have to work very hard to fit those last four-and-a half minutes into the last month of the year.
-
Everyone in this thread who has used "Discourse" and "uptime" in the same sentence is TR
-
I'm sure Jeff gets some uptime thinking about Discourse though...

I'm sure Jeff gets some uptime thinking about Discourse though...
And when he gets an error, crashes, and can't get it back up, he just tells his partner it's "OK".

Discourse can word wrap gud!

Mobile and Opera at the same time? How much difference can one world contain?!

I could have installed the old J2ME-based one...

Wohoo! I got a badge!

I replied by email instead of using the web interface. Now, email from my corporate email
I do wonder why you're using corporate email in the first place - I have a few Gmail accounts for different purposes...

So you assume everyone does stuff the same way as you?
I'd rant about the sort of stupidity your assumption entails, but it's the weekend and I just want to think about nice things.
-
So you assume everyone does stuff the same way as you?
You're either doing it way, or your .
-
Just saying that complaining about Discourse doxing you is rather odd when all your emails could well be signed "Best regards, X" (could even be mandated by your boss - I have worked at one place were signatures were automatically added for each mail outbound from Exchange). If you don't want something revealed, maybe try not revealing it in the first place?

I'm not complaining about that as such — my identity isn't a secret though I won't make it easy for people who can't even be bothered to Google — but rather the fact that that particular attachment is a signature, not a file as such.
Except that now I check the source of what was sent, it seems that it would require special magic because Thunderbird just identifies it as an attachment. Bleah.
-
just identifies it as an attachment. Bleah.
Probably because it technically is an attachment and not part of the message body
-
it technically is an attachment
Yes, but it's an attachment used as a signature. Purposes within purposes. As I said, bleah.
-
So it's an attachment and it get handled like one ...nice to agree with someone around here

You said .
This simple experiment:

You should file a bug on meta.derp

BTW, multiple times when I tried to post my last message, I got this:

BONUS WTF: I went off and did something else. The forum eventually came back. Read some other threads. Finally came back to this thread. Instead of seeing the thread, I saw-- presumably cached somehow-- this:

Hard refresh, and now here I am.

I've been seeing that all day. I noticed that if you get it the first time after refreshing, and continue without refreshing, it'll pop up and disappear every once in a while when there's no problem.

I'm still connected to Discourse. I suppose that counts as a problem...

Hi there! We found a bug in our commenting system and are working on fixing it now. All comments that were submitted but not posted, will be up ASAP.
INB4 Jeff managed to start a flamewar and crashed the comment system.
-
This is why Flarum's approach is interestingly non-retarded because it retains context that the others do not.
-
-
You spoiled it by telling him. It's more fun to let them wonder.

It's
more funalways boring to let them wonder.FTFT, @blakeyrat won't spend time to wonder, he'll just be annoyed it happened again and therefore reminded him about Discourse, so the fun comes in telling him, which should (in theory) annoy him even more because someone quoted him just to let him know Discourse is still broken and waste his time lorem ip summing dollar sits amend the bug text blarg polish belgiunn hickory jacks. hoping warts nickelback pop kellis engine thomas aquinas eats, herald aetheric net override likes.

Unless Alex's goal is literally to implement another WTF forum (which it seems like from his posts, it isn't... but God knows how he tried this endless scrolling and said it was acceptable!) vBulletin or PhpBB are the best options remaining.
Now look what happened ...
