Justify reasoning: suppose you want to solve the equation
2a+b=2a

Under floating point, but in actual maths aleph-0 added to any finite number is aleph-0. Same goes for the bigger infinities

I hate everything related to the phone network. It's such a mess of outdated, stupid, insecure protocols, and it's all ruled with an iron fist by an oligopoly of companies who sell their service at >100,000× the cost.
Telecommunications networks are a natural monopoly anyway. They should be operated by the government, in a protocol-neutral way (i.e. just provide raw IP connectivity) and resold at 0 profit to anyone. SMSs and phone calls can be implemented on top of that (and ideally, slowly migrated from).
-
@anonymous234 said in The Official Status Thread:

Right, because government monopolies are sooooo much less susceptible to corruption and graft than private ones. Not to mention that governments would never deny service to people they don't like.

"Hello everyone, this is CoolDocumentationInfoVids, and today we'll be explaining how to call the getUserId function. Now that is a very interesting function, as you will see, in fact I first learned about it 5 years ago when I was on my favorite IRC channel and my buddy Mike, who has a great YouTube channel about crushing things with a hammer, asked me how you could get the ID of the current user, and I said "hey Mike, why do you even want to do this for?" and he said "well I want to build a great website where people can order pizza from home", and I said "but Mike, that already exists", and we all started laughing at Mike! So anyway, you just call it with no parameters and it returns an integer with the current user ID. This has been CoolDocumentationInfoVids, the coolest documentation info vids on the net, thank you for watching my channel, remember to like and subscribe for more cool documentation info vids!"

Three years from now, I will most likely have replaced this computer with a new one that had Win10 or its successor already installed when I bought it. At that point, if I'm still using this one at all, it will have been repaved with some variety of relatively lightweight Linux that can happily run on the older hardware.

STATUS:
VSCode has finally added a real command line launcher on Mac, replacing their "unofficial" hacky solution, which added crap to users'
.bashrc
.But now, the old hack will interfere with their new cli launcher. So how did they handle the upgrade? Did I have to hunt down their release docs and find a note at the end, informing me about the change?
No. After upgrade, VSCode has offered to update the cmd launcher on its own.
Then, when I clicked yes, it detected that I have the bashrc version from Stack Overflow, and told me I needed to remove that before the new CLI launcher can work. There was immediately a button to open my
.bashrc
, right there in the message box.I opened the file and made the change. Once I saved the file, I was offered another button to finish the upgrade.
VSCode team really has their shit together. Well done.
