Nothin'quite like meticulously packing a bag for a trip... Only to realize as you attempt to put the last item in that the reason you're overstuffing it so bad is that you're using the wrong fucking bag.
Gym bag is big enough to hold gym clothes.
Trip duffel is big enough to hold 4 days worth of clothes.
THESE ARE NOT THE SAME THING.

See upthread (I think I posted about it). Basically temporarily ruined my right ankle doing simple stretching. I was bedridden for four days straight from Thursday to Sunday, and I'm just functional enough to amble into work. I expect full functionality (well, full normalized rating) by Thursday.

Obviously @tsaukpaetra didn't, if he's a zombie.... Wait a minute!

You know how sometimes you just don't always completely unpack from a trip? Like, you leave the odds and sods in the bag?
Hygiene compartment.
I just pulled out FISTFULLS of expired condoms. At least 3 waves of them.
A tube of toothpaste that appears to be liquid now.
A toothbrush that is... Quite grot. The sunscreen looks good, if hilariously overspec (SPF100, for those times when you can walk around literally caked in what appears to be jizz in order to avoid burning. Racetrack stuff.
-
@Weng I'd assume you didn't just return from a business trip?
-
@bb36e Based on the hundreds of condoms, I'm guessing Thailand.
-
@bb36e This bag does the majority of my long haul travel duties. Car racing, business trips, Gencon, etc. Condoms go in the pocket, sometimes they come out of the pocket, they never get unpacked and the balance just kind of accumulates until I end up pulling out fistfulls of the damn things years later.
-
@Weng Thailand.
-
@blakeyrat There's a bigger one for international travel.

-
@Jarry Well, it was actually entertaining for the first 30 minutes or so...
I'm not getting them any more, even though some people on reddit seem to indicate they still are. I'll see what happens. In any case, I was planning on archiving the parts of the shitstorm I did receive somewhere.

Status: Was preparing for a mission with a friend:
I managed to make a Sylas I don't hate by making him as fat as possible (eg. not very), giving him an afro, and wearing the Tin Man set. Yet the texture is bending because they didn't make this set count as solid armor for some reason. My friend looks just fine in the wonderful spider set he's got his Delia wearing.
It takes a lot of effort to take the edginess out of Sylas.

Not sure why you consider that a good thing. It's pretty much an aesthetic non-issue, and now to open your device you have to rip it apart with force.

Me: Oh, you're both IT and court expert?
IT guy: I sure am, boy! I've been in this business since the 80-ies! Back when network cards used to cost 1000 doiche marks...
Me: .... uh-uh...
IT guy: ... it's all about SCSI, boy, even to this day. Go into a big publishing company, they use Windows XP, 7 for the secretaries. But the actual machine in the back - still on DOS 6.22 ...
Me: .... uh-uh ... cool ... uh-uh...
IT guy: ... Unix is the best... You can just use a pipeline and stop a printing job mid-track. Try to do that on Windows! Not to mention viruses...
Me: .... sure .... uh-uh

IT guy: Well, off I go. Sorry to have kept you with my stories. Bye
Me: uh-uh... I mean, bye.

If it's first time setup, probably. Android spends a while on first boot" optimizing" (read: Re compiling) all the system Apps (it's also why it takes like five minutes), and during that time the CPU is pegged.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Is that also what they "optimizing your apps" interminable screen of despair after every OS update is? I have like 100 apps and that fucking thing takes forever

that too.

yep. if it'/s stuck on optimizing apps, or if it's charging fast. turns out charging the battery actually generates a fair amount of waste heat.
and you don't want to know how hot it gets playing pokemon.......

yeah. that'll be it.
fortunately it only has to do that once per update, but you'd better do those updates when you've got a stretch of time you don't need the phone.....

@accalia related, the OOBE for a new phone with migration is fucking terrible.
"YEAH, INSTALL ALL MY APPS"
And then it does them in some random non manipulatable order.
Which inevitably has all the things you actually use, like Pokemon, Audible, music apps, etc. at the tail end.
So you turn on your new phone, fill out forms full of exciting promises and then.... Wait hours.
I swear to god it only downloaded apps while I was actively using the thing, too - like the app install didn't interrupt doze.
-
@Weng said in The Official Status Thread:
like the app install didn't interrupt doze.
Yep, the Play Store obeys that. You don't have to be using the phone, just keep the screen on by whatever means necessary.
I usually just tap -wiggle and hold the screen so it thinks I'm trying to scroll forever. That or increase the screen timeout to forever until it's done.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Garbage! It should preempt that during the OOBE triggered bulk install.
-
@Weng said in The Official Status Thread:
Is that also what they "optimizing your apps" interminable screen of despair after every OS update is?
Yup. When it says "optimizing 1 of 179" or whatever, that's basically what it's doing. Recompiling or JITting or something alone those lines.
It's already rebooted a couple of times, including at least one OS update--supposedly. The "I have an update" icon is back so I don't know if that's the same one or a new one. But the phone's been plugged in for a few minutes and is probably only a degree or two above ambient.
Can't wait to see if Marshmallow is smarter than older versions and won't try to update all 17 or whatever Google apps at ones--that never works; they all just hang and you have to kill them all and manually start a few at a time.
-
@accalia said in The Official Status Thread:

I know how hot my G3 got. I won't be putting Pokémon Go on this, it's just not terribly interesting to me. I know Farmville will exercise the GPU though. I'm still hoping that the faster CPU+GPU and slightly lower resolution will make the game run better. As I said previously, it's lame that a Note 2 beats an LG G3, and I think it's almost entirely due to the much lower resolution.
-
@Weng said in The Official Status Thread:

Go into Play Store and hit Stop, then manually kick off 2-4 at a time. Requires more attention by you but works a lot better.
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

Just get some Lego Mindstorm and build a thing to move it around. Bonus: you can help hatch your pokemon eggs while you app update.
-
@Jarry and of course, the classic:
-
@Weng said in The Official Status Thread:

Well, considering all it does is virtually visit all the App pages in the store (at once) and clicks the download button...
Unless you're proposing Google develop an entirely separate download process just for the sake of a (theoretically) one-time event?

Yep. Or, you know, let users who care control installation sequence. Or even just do it fucking alphabetically. I assume it's sorted by some stupid auto ID that isn't user visible, because shovelware like Google Books is top of the list.
