World of VNC

Nah. If someone connects, it does a loopback, tries to exploit everything possible on the attackers machine-- so that it can install a VNC server on their machine, and serve up their own desktop.
Or web cam.
-
Good thing they put on a screensaver. Don't want to accidentally wear out that virtual screen.
-
This looks important. Good thing THREE ANONYMOUS USERS ARE VIEWING IT!

EDIT: oh wait, I bet you're trying to hotlink to images like an utter asshole and it's not working because people don't allow assholes to hotlink to images.

GOOD NEWS: it's just some homeopathetic bullshit, so all anyone will steal is some sugar water
ALSO: this drug has some amazing Engrish

WHEN SPERSALLERG MUST BE USED WITH CAUTION?
Contact lenses must be worn on insertion of eye drops. They can be reinstalled after an interval of five minutes.
Generally, contact lenses must be worn in the presence of inflammatory processes.did you mean "MUST NOT BE WORN"?

And let's end on this one, since I think someone already had the idea of "let's fuck around with whoever sees this"

Hey, Sven, what ees the statuus of ze boiler?
Eez 45% banana with side of GODDAMN TWO-TAILED FLYING GOAT CAR!

-
Proposal: in one month, revisit all the boiler / heater control VNCs. Compare the working temperatures now vs. what they'll be in a month because people fucked around with the controls.
Also: geolocation of the IP addresses of the VNCs vs. news stories of buildings exploding due to malfunctioning boilers.

Entirely likely it's a perfectly real screen - the VNC server is just showing whatever it shows.

I should totally set up an unsecured VNC server that's broadcast-only Dwarf Fortress.

I might have a couple of forgotten VMs somewhere out there holding nothing of importance to me as of present. And I am sure those VMs are not being billed to me.
The fun part: I can't even remember which hostings were they under.

You mean the DM-less instance of X? This is what happens when you start X with no display manager or anything (not even a mouse)

@Luhmann but... The screenshots can't convey that I like it loud!

I'd guess that's actually a headless server. I've needed that sort of thing in the past when installing a particularly obstreperous piece of commercial software (the software was good at what it did β FEM and CFD β but it's installation process was painful).

Nice artifacts:
And after looking at it for a while, you might want this one to give your eyes some rest:

You sure that's not IE in Wine?
-
@Ascendant, do you have one of those at work?
-
@loopback0 there's a firefox icon on the 'taskbar'
-
@Sentenryu There's also an IE icon on the taskbar. With the little arrow on the right suggesting it's the focused application.

-
@loopback0 that's an IE icon? I didn't recognize it, why the heck would anyone want to use IE on unix?

@Sentenryu IE Six no less.
I guess they use Ubuntu but also some website that needs IE to work?

written in the World's Ugliest GUI Toolkit apparently.
Doesn't look that different from any other process control GUI that I've seen, really.
The sad thing is that I can say the same thing, and the last time I looked at a process control GUI was ... 21 years ago.

@Onyx said in World of VNC:
Anyway, I am now tempted to set up a machine, expose VNC and have it loop a video of someone waving over-enthusiasticly.
Someone waving? You should go for the greatest Rickroll ever.
-
@Steve_The_Cynic it's not normal to develop new process control systems, and there's a whole lot of 'moved sindrome' if you change an existing GUI, so it's likelly the last system you saw is still being used and has the same interface.
-
@ben_lubar Post it in the IRC so I can watch and look like I'm working.

@Lorne-Kates I'm imagining someone in front of the computer "Hey, why does this message about anonymous users being connected keep popping up? Should we be worried?" "Nah, as long as the computer works it's all fine".
