Yeah, it appears at the top until you read it the first time.

So... It's called Frequently Asked Questions because I only want to see it once?

Discologic.
-
Did someone say Discologic?
-
Don't know what you have done, but it's right there next to the about link for me..
Yes, that's where I see it here, too. But then, I'm logged in....Hmm...being not logged in it's the same. I guess they've shedded the FAQ location over at fail.d. It also has a "new" indicator there, I guess to tell me that I haven't read their important Frequently notAsked notQuestion page.

This is a test that distinguishes 3-year-olds from 2-year-olds, usually...
Or Autistic children from neurotypical children

Or Autistic children from neurotypical children
I thought you just had to check their immunization record for that.

I hear it can be cured by a chiropractor

Just wait until someone develops an autism vaccine.
-
Then someone will have to come up with "vaccines cause toe cancer!" to get his daily dose paranoia.

I'm getting free vaccines from work soon!

Have you considered preemptively
amputatingreconciling any toes, to reduce risks?

Are you stalking me?
The better question is have I got you blocked! ^_^

Not at the moment. I'm rather fond of them to be honest. I get hours of entertainment wiggling them.

hours of entertainment
dude, I have some damp paint over here that's going to blow your mind...

I agree. We already learn logical thinking from doing proofs in Geometry class.
I disagree. I've known too many people that just don't get logical thinking. Not everybody learns it in Geometry or anywhere else. Teaching all kids to code might or might not help get logical thinking across to the ones who didn't get it elsewhere. However, I'm pretty sure some still won't get it, and this is why I'm opposed to the idea of "anyone who want's to program should be able to" — because some people just won't be able to, no matter how easy you make it.
-
So we agree that teaching coding to everyone is a bad idea, but for different reasons.
because some people just won't be able to, no matter how easy you make it.
Or just won't. This is true too.
-
So we agree that teaching coding to everyone is a bad idea, but for different reasons.
I'm not sure that it's a bad idea to teach a one-semester or one-year class in, say, middle school — the way we teach World History or other minor parts of the secondary education curriculum — something you should know a little about to understand the world around you. Devoting the sort of teaching effort we put into English and Math, and expecting a reasonably high degree of proficiency, I think would be a bad idea.
-
Sure, but it's the same thing with painting, or making music, but for you to say that not everyone should be able to do that would be absurd. And the point of teaching kids art or music theory is that even if they won't be able to make anything of worth, they'll still be better able to appreciate great works.
I can't look past the idea that Atwood's motivation for saying that people shouldn't learn to code is because he has a harder time convincing people that understand how software works that they are the problem. And truth be told I'm gonna make similar assumptions about anybody who makes any noise that sounds like coding should be restricted to a certain class of people.
-

I think a semester of basic computer skills: how to use the thing proficiently, basics of online security, what makes a good password, and just a smidge of scripting would make a good class. Those who enjoy the scripting part can find plenty of information out there if they want to learn more, but those who are no good at software engineering wont' fail the semester.

I'm saying not everyone should be required to do coding. There's a difference.
And the point of teaching kids art or music theory is that even if they won't be able to make anything of worth, they'll still be better able to appreciate great works.
True, but that doesn't necessarily translate to "we should teach everyone a little coding so they appreciate it." Why not add wood shop, carpentry...oh wait, that's actually a GOOD idea. Maybe we can remove psychology to make room for useful skills?

Atwood's trademark "You're Doing It Wrong™" attitude. I think we all despise him for that one.
-
Honestly I think Jeff's biggest fear is a generation-or-seven that will look back at all that has been published under his name and say, "Yeah, he was a fucking idiot. Who let him near computers?"
-
But in this digital world, what can we do?

WHAT CAN WE DO?

That was actually part of my curriculum during school.
-

Exactly that. We should teach kids a bit of everything, so they can find out what they're good at.
-
There are actually a few newly released educational games from CyberPatriot designed to teach basics of online safety, cyber security, good passwords, etc., and they are free for educators. I think last I checked they had a little over two hundred downloads, so they need more attention to actually get out there, but they're actually pretty decent for teaching those topics. They're not very good at teaching how to actually use a computer and they definitely don't teach scripting, though.
-
Do you have a link, and do homeschoolers count as educators? My mom might be interested in those for my youngest brother.
-
I do have a link! And probably, I think it says somewhere in there that parents are welcome to download it too, or something to that effect.
-
-
Looks like a broken image to me, Watson. What do you think?

This is your aunt uncle and cousins.
I am not sure how you could have missed that. It says so right on the picture...
Filed Under: It's obvious, if you think about it!
-
I guess that is what you get when your father is a hamster and your mother smells of elderberry's.
-
Yeah, I agree...
Are they trying for a redneck version of the Adams family?
-
Judging by flesh tone, your uncle is already dead, your male cousin is furiously red-hot angry, your female cousin is a Star Trek Vulcan and your aunt-- uh. She looks really normal in comparison to that freak show. I guess the aunt is the Marilyn Munster of that particular family.

Maybe you wouldn't need 4 devices if you weren't using Discourse, Jeff.

He can use discourse without a data connection?

Some airlines offer WiFi.

He's in Australia? I'm in Hong Kong at the moment. What a (non-)coincidence!

One of them is a portable discoserver.
-
He probably has a static HTML-site that just reads "500 OK".
Filed Under: It's relaxing for him. He looks at it and knows... it's (500) OK
Addendum: Yes, because it's Discourse it obviously still eats a battery an hour!
-
Because he is a narcissistic dickweed needing attention. Why do you keep forgetting that. Surely someone must have told you a year ago XD
When The DailyWTF was in the early stages of switching over to Distopiacourse, Jeff was posting here a lot and I immediately noticed that he's an arrogant, flaming dickwad. So none of what has been going on surprises me.
After the changeover to Dickwadcourse was complete, I discovered that I could no longer access the forums using Firefox and I took that as a sign of . . . . . something.
Something has changed, I don't know if it's Firefox or a change to the software here, but suddenly the forums work now, although the front page is still a mess and unreadable ...... some sort of CSS issue I'm guessing.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh Jesus Christ, what the fuck is that?!
Out of fear of being accused of racism or privilegising a particular skin colour they decided to make all people in colours that do not occur naturally (I hope).
I wonder how soon will this trend catch on.
