Closed Poll: Show Raw

Note that Abarker used the "font size 2" variant in his other poll and then says LOL I WHOOSHED BLAKEYRAT and basically that's annoying as shit, stop doing that. Not I'm not going to hit control-+ 47 times to read your shit. Go away.

It was a disclaimer. Who expects a poll with that many options to be serious?
-
Ok - fairly conclusive then..
Now - all I need is a way to close the poll...
-
Ok, ok, I'll break the silence... you made me do it.
(where is this guy, by the way?)
Boo!
Seriously now, I've been busy as all hell at work, and when I come home I mostly just do something brainless. Reading TDWTF requires at least a modicum of brainpower which I have little these days.
That took about 0.4 seconds to break. And it appears semi-random, too.
Discourse! Also, the onclick bug was something I always intended to fix but...
So... my main reason to come and post here (other than just appearing on TDWTF that is) is to check if any of you are experiencing any slowdown now this is active? I did notice some which is most likely due to, honestly, way too many updates triggering in that code (but that was the best I managed to reverse-engineer) and possibly the browser used. Who knows, might be some userscript extension overhead too.

Have you compared the two styles with and without the show raw feature? You can still choose both.

Might I suggest the question-topic, or /t/1000? Both are really not high on brainusage, afaik!
Also, welcome back.
Filed Under: two more days and I might have messaged you for no reason!

I see it's made its way to mobile too. Like

But the current effort that's going on doesn't look too promising...
I'd classify that as rather excessively promising…
-

Hmm - I'm actually pleasantly surprised by that - totally unexpected.
Which, also means that the CSS style selection also available on mobile - not so sure about that...
It would appear that the
</head>
section (where the code for those two bits of functionality reside,) despite the appearance of only applying to Desktop also applies to Mobile...##Desktop:
##Mobile:

Well, there's none now that it's actually included into the site. But I don't see much slowdown - I think the biggest problem is that it doesn't show on new posts. Also, that randomly clicking stuff for a while breaks it, but that's true for like 90% of Discourse.
Also, it seems that post objects now have raw included on them when streamed in - might want to look into that.
I don't give a shit how many buttons you crap all over, I'm not ever viewing raw. Don't put shit in there if you want people to see it.
I think it's mostly for "how did this guy fuck up the Markdown parser this time?" type things. Nothing for you either, move along - it's even next to the Like button, so you can conveniently ignore them both at once.
If we're going to have some means of meta-post-ing, we need tags back or to adopt something else. (Something VISIBLE, not something that's only in the DOM or font size 2.)
Seconded. It's Discourse, though - whatever they come up with will probably be inferior to the CS tags, and that's a pretty low bar to stumble and fall upon.
Actually, scratch that - they did come up with tags, and they're both pointless as a meta-posting thing since you can apply them only at the top level, and additionally opened up more sanitization fuckups than the CS ever had. So yeah...

let's just stick with filed under
I wonder if someone who actually knows JS could knock up another button which adds the <hr> tag, the text and the markup for the link ready while composing/editing the reply.

http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/so-i-kinda-sorta-made-signatures/1083/6?u=kuro
I think I tried back then... It's really ugly and not exactly how you want it... but changing it should actually be pretty simple, I guess...
Filed Under: I am typing those Filed Under: manually, though

i missed all the fun y'all had
I missed most of it, too. I was here, but most of the fun was had while my part of the world was asleep. All the fun stuff was patched by the time I got online in the morning. :(
-
it's even next to the Like button, so you can conveniently ignore them both at once.
:chuckle:
Not that it's not impossible for the order of the stock buttons to change...
-

hmmm..... this could be done........

You got Hanzo'd ;)

I'm tyred of the misspellings.
It does start to boar you eventually.
If it helps the second misspelling was on porpoise
I appreciate that you guys pick up the slack when I haven't been paying attention to a thread.

Huh. That used to work. Let me guess, they fiddled with events for no good reason. Will take a look on the weekend I guess.
Also, that randomly clicking stuff for a while breaks it, but that's true for like 90% of Discourse.
I will gladly accept that, since my code is perfec!
Also, it seems that post objects now have raw included on them when streamed in - might want to look into that.
Oh, NOW they do it, after I spent good minutes of my life writing convoluted selectors so I can extract the correct IDs. Figures.
-
Oh, NOW they do it,
you can thank the bots for that addition. i was surprised that the discodevs gave me that request, but @riking was very nice about that.
-
You can't quote reply hilit raw text.
Could that be corrected?
-
noticed that too. yeah it's correct, and it's something i've always meant to fix, just never got around to it.
-
@pjh... just did a hard refresh and the style selection options under the avatar menu are missing and the style has reverted back to discourse default....
anything to do with what you're playing around with styles?
-
anything to do with what you're playing around with styles?
Nope - doing other stuff totally unrelated to it.
Search your cookies for one called
preview_style
for what.thedailywtf.com and note the content (it's normally the UUID of the style). Then delete the cookie and try a hard refresh?
-
that fixed it. wonder why that broke it so bad, and why the style changer went away?
-
What was the content of the cookie?
-
oddly it was:
preview_style=
no, i have no idea why the contents of the cookie called
preview_style
waspreview_style=
but i suspect it has something to do with discourse.
-
hmm - I have my suspicions about it and will assuage those suspicions by changing something...
-
this should be interesting....
-
-
/me is curious and apprehensive

Why on earth that's how they chose how to do it could possibly be worthy of a FP article on a quiet week...
-
hmm.... possibly....
but why do you have to HTML escape the ampersand inside the HTML?
-
That's JS. And a copy/paste of a submission I got from someone on here who disliked having the links at the top of the page.
-
oooh. that makes sense then.
-
but why do you have to HTML escape the ampersand inside the HTML
You probably don't have to, but it's done in the interest of writing valid html (as defined per the w3c spec).
Nice little write-up here (specifically the "Ambiguous ampersands in HTML5" part).
-
Maybe it would help to lube up the hole thing.
That's what she said!
("hanzo'd", just in case it was.)
-
-
but why do you have to HTML escape the ampersand inside the HTML?
Not sure if you have to but there is this. and it was already there when copied
-
I chose that particular bit. It used to be that
?preview-style=
would give you no custom style, so I changed that meaning to?preview-style=default
and blank would mean "remove the setting".This happened when the "remove preview" button showed up.

Continuing the discussion from Thread The Vaccines - Lie today: Lack of cancer kills oxygen:
is the Show Raw button suddenly missing for anyone else?
if you run the script manually that should effectively add the button, it'll start showing up for you in the tab you run it in
It does appear that the "Show Raw" button is missing when on the "TDWTF Default" styles, though running the script block that is supposed to run automatically makes the button start showing up again.
Also just now, I refreshed the site and the style options from the avatar menu are also missing. Are the Server Cooties™ getting worse? They came back after a hard refresh.
-
oooh. that makes sense then.
It doesn't make sense, but it makes sense, in that kind of sense?
Filed under: sense is fun to say
-
-
Yah, because you lost the italics.
-
They came back after a hard refresh.
The CSS picker is still there, but the raw button seems to be lost, even after a forced refresh in Firefox. I didn't remove the cookie, but is that really what it takes?
-
Yah, because you lost the italics.
I didn't lose them. They ran away to escape the Server Cooties™.
-
The CSS picker is still there
It went away for me for a short stint, probably caught it right in the middle of something where they were gone (or a server hiccup or something). That's why I edited it to say they came back after I did a hard refresh.
the raw button seems to be lost
