I don't use it much any more, but my daughter does. And yes, it always sits on my desk within reach.

Well, except for the TI-82, the TI-83, the TI-83+, the TI-86…Filed under: I was the cool kid with my built-in-clock TI-84+, I also spent too much time writing flicker-free analog clock programs in TI-Basic
I overclocked my TI-89 by adding a new capacitor controlled by a switch in a cutout hole in the back of the calculator case, which enabled/disabled the overclocking. See http://richfiles.solarbotics.net/Turbo89.html
Everyone always forgets the TI-85.
And TI-92, TI-92+
I owned at one point or another, the TI-82, TI-85, TI-86, TI-89, and TI-92+
I still have the 92+, it's 15 years old and still works like a champ. Until wolfram alpha came out, that 92+ was the best/easiest to use math device I have ever owned.

I overclocked my TI-89
I had a friend that tried to overclock his 92+ and completely destroyed it.... Couldn't even get it to turn on at all after the mod attempt.

This was the situation in 2010, of course. Things have only gotten more complicated since then, especially with the iPhone 5's fingerprint reader and the iPhone 6+'s double-tap vs double-press gesture.
So, basically, the future of user interfaces is morse code.
-
Wait, this thing is companion mode only? That's...sad?
(I'm one of the suckers who backed the TrueSmart. I'm actually not that displeased with it.)
Also, meh to your TIs.

Some love for the TI-85! Mine is sitting on my desk right now, still gets used regularly.
I usually keep my TI-85 handy at work, but since I hate this job so much I haven't brought it in. Because I'm still hoping any second now I'll get called into the bosses' office and my contract truncated. Still hoping...

All this calculator discussion reminds me of the nerdiest thing I ever did - printed out 80+ pages of an app I decompiled into raw z80 assembly code, in an attempt to reverse engineer a few features to use in my own app. I did manage to get some usable stuff from it, but not much... it was pretty tough to make sense out of it.
-
I've only owned a T-81, TI-85 (which died), and a TI-84 which is sitting on my desk at home.
I actually recently updated the OS on the TI-84 using a USB cable and TI-Connect software I'd downloaded and noticed that it now does line-over when doing square roots (instead of printing
Sqrt(
) and does superscripts when you hit the^
key instead of just printing^
. Still gets the order of operations wrong when you try to raise a negative number to a power, though (it does the power first, then negates the result)..

(is IP67 overkill?)
Apparently not:
Don't worry about wet or rough conditions. The G Watch is IP67 water and dust resistant.1
The Samsung Gear Live is IP67 water and dust resistant so you can keep it on when you wash your hands, take a shower, or do the gardening.2
Oh, wait, those are Android Wear devices. Carry on.
-
using a USB cable and TI-Connect software
I only have the serial cable... ha
I think I have a serial to USB adapter with it though. Don't feel like digging around for it. Nothing has changed for the TI-92+ software-wise in 10 years.

The only way a smartwatch could work is if it somehow managed to provide the functionality of "telling time" at the same battery cost as the regular watches, while drawing more power only when used for more advanced things. Perhaps some e-ink shenanigans, perhaps have an actual watch and some sort of translucent display on top of it? What definitely won't and can't work is a backlit LCD screen - those things eat battery like crazy, and in the smaller form factor (which forces lower battery capacity) it's going to be even worse.
That being said, there are a lot of potentially useful applications for a smartwatch - mostly revolving about notifications, since it's close to the body and can be quickly checked. If it had a decent battery life, I'd buy one.

Which is why I suggested a high-contrast reflective/transflective LCD technology. (P.S. a backlight isn't that bad, I have one on my watch, but I need to push a button to turn it on, and it's a greenish EL or LED, not the power hoggy white stuff full color displays use)

That tiny floppy looks to be just about the same size as a micro SD card.

That is actually the correct order of operations. Unary negation comes after exponentiation precisely because it's a multiplication by -1. There's even a specific sentence in the manual about this.

My point was that the - should be considered part of the number rather than unary negation. For the same reason a decimal mark is considered part of the number and not a binary concatenation (I have no idea what that would really be called).

Because it's an unfunny obvious joke we've already seen 59,000 times on Twitter? Is that the answer?

Maybe you should spend less time on twitter? Your attempts at humor moderation are hindering the spreading of expression of ideas and should fuck right off.

I've looked at Twitter maybe twice in my life.

I've looked at Twitter maybe twice in my life.
I have looked many more than that, but the kind of people I follow don't post pictures like that.
-
I used it only to follow Notch in the Minecraft Alpha days but he doesn't do anything interesting anymore.
-
Twitter?
I think I pulled it from my wife's facebook wall, or whatever it is called. Makes one wonder ...

I've looked at Twitter maybe twice in my life.
I'm not certain, but it's quite possible that the only times I've ever looked at it have been when someone here posted a link to one of Jeff's stupid tweets.

Edit: Yes Dicksores, I do want to necro this topic. @PJH, any chance you could change the toaster text to actually include the term "necro"? That would be so fitting with this group.

No - I can't change any of the toaster text.

I think GPS is about 16 seconds faster than UTC.
-
This post is deleted!
-
16 seconds
Global Positioning System time, is the atomic time scale implemented by the atomic clocks in the GPS ground control stations and the GPS satellites themselves. GPS time was zero at 0h 6-Jan-1980 and since it is not perturbed by leap seconds GPS is now ahead of UTC by 16 seconds.

.... wait... how the F*** does one get ahead of...
*facepalm*....
nevermind....

That clock is Java, can we really be sure of its accuracy.

i also have to have words with our sysadmin.
JAVA was disabled on my system for a reason. You DO NOT mess with my browser configuration or i'll ask @abarker to pay you a visit for a smashing.

It's javascript, not java. The path just has Java in its name for no reason.

Yep, that's not cool. I have java activated in FF so I can do my corporate VPN and webex. But that's about all I use FF for. And those sites are whitelisted.

WTF.
yeah, that's actually a thing. you can see it if you have access to an angry person and can wind them up until the point their bloodpressure is so high that they are about to have a coronary event. there are a couple of veins in the forehead that will bulge out and you can actually see them beating.
for a variety of reasons that i could go into if you are interested that symbol became a shorthand for that level of anger in Manga and Anime, and then generalized to anger in general.

It might be burning smash. Is that ok?
i was planning to follow up with a molotov enema to drive the point home so you'd just be saving me a step. ;-)

exactly! and the smaller one is about in the right place anatomically speaking (or as much as an anime character can be anatomically correct....)

I get the horizontal ones, but the vertical ones totally mess that up. Would have been better with a smiley sort of face with the Angry Bert eyebrows or something.
