group Save/Load/Delete under Disk
if you actually had used a recent Office version you would know these are cloud operations, not disk.
Also, what version of Office gives you a delete button? Maybe you shouldn't be using that Russian hacked edition.
Also, also it's a bad example since this stuff is still under the 'file' menu thing that isn't a ribbon. So you should at the ribbon and provide non-ribbon examples as your proof?

The cable from my dock to my laptop got bumped and the monitors freaked out. I unplugged, replugged and the monitors eventually settled down in the correct configuration. Except there was some artifact that was on top of everything and wouldn't repaint. I started shutting down apps to see if that would clear it up but nope.
Now trying to restart. That's going about as well as usual. Don't know why I even bother with letting Windows try to shut itself down.
-
@boomzilla - I am sure it is too late to try now, but did you try killing Explorer.exe and then relaunching it?

Yeah Windows does that sometimes.
I'm sure they can't fix it because of backwards compatibility. Somehow.

Windows 10: Animating nothing
Drag a file from one location to another.
There is already a file with that name in the destination folder.
Select "Skip this file"
The file is not copied, but Windows displays an animated progress bar with "Moving 1 item"

In this situation, that dialog used to contain an option to "Keep both files". That option was removed and hidden behind the unhelpful and unintuitive "Compare info for both files"

Never occurred to me. If it happens again perhaps I'll remember your suggestion.

How is "Keep both files" any different from "Skip this file?"
-
@boomzilla the file gets copied with (1) appended to its name.
-
@Gąska ah...so a name for, "Rename the moved / copied file."
-
@boomzilla FWIW, it does say what it'll do.

That looks like a different dialog than what @El_Heffe showed.
EDIT: Copy vs Move?
-
@boomzilla yes, it's the much superior file copy dialog found in Windows 7.

Yes but the Windows 10 version does say the same.

==>> (after clicking Compare info...) <==
You only get that AFTER clicking on "Compare Info".
How am I supposed to know that I need to click on Compare Info?
Why would I click on Compare Info?
I don't want to "compare info". I just want to move the file.It was done properly in Windows 7. Just one more thing that was changed for no good reason.

The wording makes it clear what it does. So, you know you need to do that when you think you need do to that.

Nowhere in "compare info" does it say that's what you have to do to keep both files.

@El_Heffe
Does the Windows 7 one allow you to stack sixteen or seventeen of those Replace/Skip/Compare dialogues? No, I don't want to explain why I might want to do that.
In Windows 10 the dialogue box just gets longer and longer as each question is appended. If you choose "Compare" and get the "Which files" dialogue, you have to dismiss that before you can return to the stack, so you can't stack those.

@Gąska said in WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else:

Not explicitly, no.
There are 3 choices of what you need to do. Keep the destination file, keep the file you're copying and keep both in the destination folder.
You don't need to be a rocket surgeon to realise which does which.

Not explicitly, no.
There are 3 choices of what you need to do. Keep the destination file, keep the file you're copying and keep both in the destination folder. The 3rd option used to be "Keep both files" which is a legitimate option that you might want.
The 3rd choice now is "Compare Info" which is meaningless and does not tell the user what he needs to do if he wants to keep both files.
Many people have asked why MS removed the"Keep both files" option because it never occurred to them to click on "Compare info" -- because ... why would you? You aren't interested in 'comparing info' you want to copy a file.
(Raymond Chen even wrote about it not too long ago)

Hey, that's nice, a little console wizard to tell me what a bad idea this is!
Too bad all those questions were for naught. Why isn't "Can the user even try this?" the first check that occurs?
Edit: I'm fucking disconnected from the network, moron! What more could you want?
Let's go a little insane, eh?

I have one Windows 10 box that has its time set horribly wrong. I can't fix the time because the "Change date and time button" is grayed out because "Some settings are hidden or managed by your organization." This is false because I can set the time manually on every other Windows 10 system in my control. I can access the "Set Time Automatically" button, but it doesn't work.
-
@mott555 I found the fix. The Windows 10 date/time settings window is broken, but I was able to fix things by using the old Control Panel date/time settings window instead.

It later turned out to enter Schrodinger's box that was made of glass but somehow didn't affect the observation state. Looked kinda like a prism actually.
Workstation didn't actually exit. But task manager said it had an associated PID. Couldn't kill it (thanks) and because of was a zombie nothing I had locally without severe magical incantations was working.
Oh well, time for a reboot!

I usually just mash it until it works. Because it never works the first time...

I'll counter with an even better question: have you ever met a user?
