@RaceProUK 8, 4, 2 do look like inverse square power loss.
Uh, no.
It looks almost like an inverse power loss, but nothing at all like an inverse square power loss.
The origin of the radiated power is the device itself, unless it's doing something clever like detecting the position of the receiving device(s) (how?) and focusing the power toward it/them (how?). That would push the apparent origin of the power back (meaning that, based on the beam's spread, it looks as if the radiation is coming from some distance behind it actually), which puts you in a flatter section of the inverse square curve (as you'll note from the graph, as the distance increases, the curve gets more and more flat).

I charge my devices when I'm effing asleep,
My fitness tracker does sleep, so charging is always a bitch. That's why I switched to one you replace the batteries on instead.
Sleep tracking? I can do that with my iPhone, while it is charging on its cable, and the Health tracking thing in iOS can integrate the various sources of information.

Pro tip: Replacing your fitness tracker with a partner who tells you to sleep and exercise more reduces charging issues by 100%.

Or an increase in if you can work out the right "exercise routine"

Or (stolen from a tweet I saw a while ago) instead of wearing a fitness band just write the number 0 on your wrist.

"What? No, but..."

These voice clips, along with records of 820,000 CloudPets.com accounts associated with the each of the toys, have been left wide open on the internet, with no password protection – allowing gigabytes of sensitive material to potentially fall into the hands of criminals. And it's all due to a poorly secured NoSQL database holding 10GB of internal information.
CloudPets' internet-facing MongoDB installation, on port 2701 at 45.79.147.159, required no authentication to access, and was repeatedly extorted by miscreants, evidence shows. The database contains links to .WAV files of voice messages hosted in the Amazon cloud, again accessible with no authentication

What's so surprising? Hell, they're using MongoDB, that's a pretty big sign that they don't know what the fuck they're doing.

I think the fact that we've had at least a couple of people attempting to convert NodeBB to a sane relational DB (which is apparently a gargantuan undertaking) says more about us than the fact that we use NodeBB and it uses MongoDB.

Yeah, it'd probably be easier to just write our own platform. If I ever have the time and money, I would undertake such a project.

@abarker said in Internet of shit:

That we were eager to get of the POS that was Discourse. Because, let's face it, while NodeBB is far from perfect, it's easily better than Discourse. Then again, a pile of rancid faeces makes for better forum software than Discourse, so it's not a high bar.

this too.
though a lot of servers have permissive firewalls by default.
I know ubuntu does. it doesn't block ports by default, instead it says "hey, the port's open. that's cool."

Yes but I didn't mean the server firewall - I meant the one between the Interweb and their network.

you're assuming they have one of those. I'm not. because if they had proper network infrastructure their database server wouldn't have had a publicly route-able IP address in the first place.
-
@accalia No I'm hoping they do because the IP belongs to a cloudy provider.

They could easily have one and still have the ports open and the server routable.

@loopback0 Which would be worse, as that would have to be deliberately done.
