That sounds...very likely? Hope that's not the case though.

Status: It must be cryptomalware season again. Was woken up at 6:20am by a call from a frantic client. I didn't go to bed until 2am. Good god, can't you fuckers call the general support number at odd hours? Just because you have my cell phone number doesn't mean you have to use it.

He's @sweaty_gammon now. Denies it though.

Hello, brother. Can I tell you the wonders of EAV?
It will be generic enough for everything (but not useful for anything)
Think of all the things we CAN use it for in the future (though we can't use it for things we do now)

Status: Been debugging my data transfer code all day. Made good progress too, once I found just why it was losing chunks of 40 bytes from time to time (overloading some of the comms hardware) and it now doesn't do that any more. Just got to stop it from crashing occasionally now, and all will be good; I think I know how to fix it too, but had to go for the train before I could start coding that bit.
Assuming I'm right about what's wrong, I'll start performance testing tomorrow, only about a week behind where I wanted to be.

Still wondering if, after years of taking as much abuse as he dealt out, I finally made a certain other someone flip by agreeing with him.
Not that I had any intention of it, though.

Have you tried uninstalling WTDWTF?

That would impact his work capacity too much
-
@TimeBandit
Well, maybe he can install a speedup loop at the same time, limit the capacity gain to something reasonable for now, and then have the rest in reserve for next year's evaluation cycle

@izzion said in The Official Status Thread:

Have you tried uninstalling WTDWTF?My work laptop was never visited TDWTF. At work, only my phone has any involvement with this place, and it never touches anything work-related (beyond the employee/guest wifi, which is separate from the corporate network).

@izzion I see you're an experienced consultant

Got lucky on that one, huh?
Though, I am somewhat miffed at being called a criminal....
Strange that the thing that bothers you is that they'd accuse you of speeding. Were you not?

WTDWTF is the speedup loop.

status Fucking tax cut.
I just did an initial input of data in H&R Block's program (using my last paystub since w2's aren't out yet). I had to pay 1000 to the Fed in 2017. Looks like I owe the Fed 8800 this year. And that was after adjusting my exemptions down too! And that's enough to trigger a penalty. God damn fucking tax cut. (Oh, and my state refund of 900 last year changed to paying them over 1000 too. Enough to trigger the compute-my-penalty check.)
-
@dcon You owe money because of a tax cut? Shouldn't that, you know, work the other way around?

I did not say I'm bothered by being accused of speeding. If speed was a concern, all law enforcement needs is a a nice 4K camera and a sunny day, and they can easily clock thousands of cars going 15-20 MPH over the "Limit" every day, if one had the patience to run license plate algorithms.
But I'm not going to engage in this topic in the Status Thread. May shame come upon your conscience if you decide to continue.
-
@Tsaukpaetra I guess I'm confused. Besides giving you a speeding ticket, how did they call you a criminal?
-
@topspin
If he lives in a state with super high State and Local income & property taxes (SALT), the itemized deduction for those was capped at $10,000 per year. And most of those states also correspond with areas with super high costs of living (say, California or New York), which further compounds the problem, since average wages are much higher, putting you both in a higher federal tax rate bracket (so the lost dollars of SALT deductions increase your tax liability by a higher %age) and raising the absolute dollar value of state/local taxes, thus making it much more likely that you were actually itemizing specifically for that.
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

You'd think. The tax cut immediately changed withholding so paychecks got bigger. I'm just hoping the program somehow released with old tax tables.

@brie said in The Official Status Thread:

Basically, the letter essentially said the court that the ticket was lodged with can't criminally prosecute me because jurisdiction or something.
In other words "You're a criminal, but we can't do anything about it here."
-
@Tsaukpaetra oh, ok.

It's vital, vital I tell you, to ensure that none of those files contain shenanigans by viruses! Gotta scan 'em all!
-
@Tsaukpaetra did you not know nodejs can fuck up your life let alone measly fuckin raid.

@Tsaukpaetra
It seems you have a rather different idea of the concept "exciting"I'd rather not fuck either of those things. But at least that would be over quickly.
The date handling project scares me. I may have forgotten to mention several other things I imagine are closely related to it, such as landmines, zombie badgers, considerably slowed down country music, rotten vegetable sludge and tentacle pornography.
