Ads in your inbox. Sounds like something you'd expect from the likes of Google or Yahoo, but Microsoft appears to be about to get in on the act as well.
What's weird is I don't see any ads in my Gmail inbox at all, even with adblock disabled. And I'm not paying for any kind of Google subscriptions.

Definitely a wrong headline. This dog can't sniff out child porn, but can find the thumb drive I carry with radio programs recorded for later listening.
And probably anybody's cell phone.

The WSJ has apparently started just blocking everyone unless they have an account (subscription?), even archival sites, my usual go-to method for bypassing paywalls like that.
Maybe it's just for new articles.

He can smell you're guilty and barks.
Surprisingly, the postman and the butcher around the corner seem to be guilty too...

The problem—which isn't actually a problem, unless you define it as such—is that because the play group has some rules and requirements, including the fact that parents must submit emergency contact forms, as well as tell the group when their kid is sick, the play group is not a play group but a "child development facility." And child development facilities are subject to regulation and licensing by the government.

Sorry it's just a screenshot and not an article, but the headline is pretty much all there is to it.

Azure Multi-Factor Authentication is very secure

@TimeBandit That explains a lot. Because I initially suspected my school's poor network performance (~30KB/s) to be the cause of not being able to login to Azure.

Blaming Azure is always a safe bet
-
@TimeBandit Is that article implying that Azure MFA has been working at some point? In my experience it gives as much extra protection as leaving your front door unlocked when leaving the house.

Drunk, on ice. There was swearing, and brooms may have been (ok, were) broken.

As someone who never had chickenpox as a child, I'm pretty scared of when my kids inevitably contract it and confused as to why it's not part of the UK vaccine schedule. I really need to talk to my doctor about getting myself vaccinated

I was going to say the opposite. Why is chickenpox a big deal? Sure it sucked when I was a kid. I'd be significantly more concerned that parents also opt out of things like the MMR vaccine and pretty much every other one.

Yeah, this one I considered opting out for my daughter. But it can be bad if you are older when you get it. Though we think my husband is naturally immune so maybe should wouldn't have gotten it anyway.

Herd immunity. Immunocompromised people will thank you.
Also, you may contract shingles if you got chickenpox the "natural" way.

Definitely. I was in my early 20s when I got it from sharing my hallway with a pediatric practice and it was fucking awful. I've had my share of dangerous shit like typhoid and dengue but this was the longest I've ever been bedridden for.

@mikehurley said in In other news today...:
Why is chickenpox a big deal?
Serious complications from chickenpox include
- bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues in children including Group A streptococcal infections
- pneumonia
- infection or inflammation of the brain (encephalitis, cerebellar ataxia)
- bleeding problems
- blood stream infections (sepsis)
- dehydration
Chickenpox can leave you crippled or dead through it's complications. Most of the time it won't.

@Luhmann I'm currently toying with the idea of getting some stickers with a special adhesive - they're moderately difficult to get off but not impossible and still leave no trace after having been removed.
Bap that sticker onto the windshield (of course not in front of the driver!) and you'll annoy those shitheads who think that parking in a restricted zone is okay (i.e. reserved for disabled people, making it difficult for service trucks to get by, ...)
-
@Rhywden I believe a bunch of teenagers was doing this in Russia (and making videos of the entire thing) for people double-parking, and they were not afraid to put it right in the driver's view.
From the video it looked like usual sticker adhesive but the sticker seemed to be made out of a very grainy kind of paper. The result is that the glue itself leaves no permanent trace but you can not peel it off in one go; instead it only comes off in tiny bits.
