@Tsaukpaetra Well yeah, that function is a thousand years old and you could easily parse the INI file yourself. Doesn’t mean you have to change the format to something else entirely.
The program isn’t that large but consists of a lot of windows only functions. Do you want it to run on Linux or be portable to both Linux and Windows? If the former, there’s posix functions for networking and starting processes, otherwise you probably should be looking at a library taking care of the platform abstraction. Maybe boost.asio and boost.process.

Ideally portable between the two, but the program doesn't change enough to justify importing more inter-platform libraries just to keep it unified.
Actually, I copy-pasta'd it into C# and adjusted it to actually compile (so that MasterServer could be its own client, funny story...), so there's already technically two versions....

Status: Finished the first two chapters of RiME. I can't believe I haven't heard more about this game; it's great. Light puzzling, gorgeous graphics, plenty of secrets, and all without words. It's also a software developer's dream - if something isn't working, yell at it, and it'll probably work.
Holy shit I was not expecting the ending at all. That was a trip.

Looks like Sweden did this summer. Many forest fires.
I live roughly where the red circle is. Breathing hasn't been as much fun as usual the last couple of days, though it could be a lot worse, obviously.

Was so cute I almost said yes....

@Benjamin-Hall Status: Experimental habit-modification experiment ended. Results inconclusive.
You made it 10 days into no-fap November? Impressive.
-
@anotherusername I made it 12 days into it and I really hope to make it all 30.
Without following the silly no-fap rule of course.
(And if anyone really wants to follow it... remember, custom made chastity cages are more expensive than the generic ones but are well worth the extra cost)

Status: Just got invited to a disciplinary conference on Thursday. Apparently, two pupils in a class I teach got into a heated argument over some nonsense which then ended with one of the girls hitting the other.
To increase their problem, one of the girls is already 18 which means that if we expel her, she might have to look for a job without having a proper graduation. Because 18 is the cutoff age after which participation in education is seen as voluntary by the state. Which in turn means that if she applies at another school they are perfectly allowed to turn her down.
And, yes, physical violence is grounds for expulsion. We might just expel the other one, too. It's not as if she was a shrinking violet in the incident.
-
@Rhywden Is this a "repetitive behavior" thing with one or both of these girls?
If not, it seems stupid to just expel both of them immediately.

I didn't say that we will definitely expel them. Just that this is grounds for expulsion. This class has disciplinary issues in general, though.
They'll have a hearing, we'll look at their stories, the evidence and their backgrounds. And then we'll decide.

Status: Discovered that I was actually an Admin in JIRA. So I unfucked the Workflows to properly set a "Resolved" status when moving shit to the "Done" pile.
Also, because a majority of my tasks weren't resolved (because of the snafu that caused them to be done without a resolved status) I created a workflow to move from Done to Done, so I could set that status manually.
Woohoo...

It is interesting to re-visit a dying forum such as this.
There are threads on here that haven't had as many comments as they should have if the forum was as active as people wish it was.
-
@sweaty_gammon There's a group you can join to see the other half of the activity.

Many schools have "Zero Tolerance" policies on violence.

Which, frankly, is a "Administrator CYA/" move. It's not because that's what's best for the kid, the school, or the situation. It's because that's what's easiest and least likely to come back on the admin.
Of course, many schools have gone too far the other way--to avoid problems with PR (too many suspensions, etc) they've basically said they won't discipline anyone at all. For anything. Inmates running the asylum.

Lots of them look suspiciously like "Zero Common-Sense" policies.

@Zerosquare That's the general idea, yes.

As I drove home from work today I was wondering why traffic was so light. Then I remembered that many people had the day off. We didn't. That's ok--I get the whole week off for Thanksgiving.
-
@Benjamin-Hall You had classes today?

@anotherusername said in The Official Status Thread:

Yeah. We take Columbus day off because it fits better. It falls right at mid semester, giving us a 4 day weekend to get grades and comments on and means we don't have so long without a break. I'm fine with it.

I don't think I've ever gotten Veterans' Day off since I've been out of school.

That's.... Not what the holiday is for.
-
@anotherusername What holiday was yesterday?
E: Never mind, reading a few more posts tells me it's Veteran's Day.
But wasn't the 100 year end of the war on Sunday?
-
@anotherusername said in The Official Status Thread:

The only people who get Veterans Day off are government workers and banks.
-
@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:

Yes. But it was observed on Monday. (How else can federal employees get a day off? They already have Sunday off!)
-
@dcon
It's even questionable whether they actually work on the 200-odd days a year they don't have off.
