You're an inspiration to shitty broken software everywhere.

My icons are too big, I think I need to make my window 3px smaller...
Edit: Nope...

Sounds like a 3px problem.

@pie_flavor Ok well it appears some people have a broken-ass header and others don't. Whatever. Mine's broken-assed.
-
@blakeyrat make your window 3px larger.
-
@blakeyrat Although it does appear if I shrink my browser window about 3 px. Maybe make yours larger?
https://i.imgur.com/aAIPjOy.png
-
@tsaukpaetra I reproduced it here. It only happens when the window width is lower than somewhere between 1000 and 1200 pixels.
-
@polygeekery said in Good jorb NodeBB:

Obviously at the width I have it, there's absolutely NO room in the header to spread those icons out a bit:
Look how crowded that is! A little whitespace, please!
@pie_flavor said in Good jorb NodeBB:

Maybe you fuck off?
-
Paging @ben_lubar to see what customization of ours could do this.
The NodeBB install at NodeBB.org never seems to shrink its icons, instead it just stuffs them into a hamburger menu once the width of the page is too narrow.
-
It may be some theme-specific css that's doing it. On the Slate theme, the number badge fits inside its button at all sizes, until the mobile theme triggers and all the buttons disappear.
-
@blakeyrat Your maximize button must be busted or something, because this is how you're browsing based on my measurements:

uhhhhhhhhhh
https://i.imgur.com/6So11L4.pngI'm fairly certain that's not it, because if it were, then he'd be complaining about a shit ton more. This is some impressive levels of fail here.
Although, what do you fucking know, if I increase it LITERALLY THREE PIXELS, it snaps back to a sane button layout.
-
OK, where does this whole "3px wider" meme come from?

@masonwheeler said in Good jorb NodeBB:
OK, where does this whole "3px wider" meme come from?
When we switched to this forum, I thought it only had the idiotic mobile editor (with no preview pane, no editing icons, etc.) because the dumbshits who created this broken software and are retards somehow decided that they'd determine whether you were on a desktop computer based on the width of the window. If you're using Windows' half-snap feature, have a smallish monitor, or purposefully keep your windows somewhat narrow so that paragraphs flow without getting unreadably wide (like I do), NodeBB thinks you're a mobile device and shows you the retard interface.
Somehow the meme started that if I'd just make my window 3 pixels wider, all the bugs I reported would be solved. It's pretty much the least funny joke in history, and since everybody here has the sense of humor of an IRS agent, it's been constantly repeated for years since.
This is still a hugely critical bug for NodeBB that completely and utterly destroys their first-run experience for a large proportion of users that they've never made any attempt to fix.

Oh, you must not have read Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems. Go do so. We'll wait.
Edit: @masonwheeler you too (but you won't get the notify from this mention)
-

Which large proportion is that? I have never met a single person who uses their web browser in anything other than maximized. Also, snap to side brings up the horrible fail bar I showed; making the window a further three pixels smaller switches to mobile layout, so yeah (I don't think this statement has ever been said to you) it's worse than you're describing.
Edit: Oh, I have reading to do. Fun. Point stands, though.
-
@pie_flavor said in Good jorb NodeBB:

Oh? You were probably one of the users ecstatically happy with Windows 8.0 too, huh?
-
@tsaukpaetra I didn't really care. The UI was shinier and I don't use the Start menu for much. I acknowledge that it was a dumpster fire for the majority of its users, though, and that nearly nobody feels the same way I do about it.
-
@jbert said in Good jorb NodeBB:

Yeah, it's one of our customizations. I should probably just remove that whole header section of the custom CSS and see what breaks (locally, of course).

I've used the following Windows versions:
- 95
- 98 (SE)
- XP
- [not Windows, but I used various Linux OSes including Fedora, Gentoo, Ubuntu, SUSE, and Arch between XP and 8]
- 8
- 8.1
- 10
Right now I'm using a Chromebook (Edgar) to interact with my Windows 10 computer (GODZILLA) over remote desktop, through which I am using an SSH session to an Ubuntu Xenial (16.04) machine (australium) which is currently connected to a Docker container (wtdwtf-nodebb-postgres) running Debian Stretch (9).
I could probably cut out one of those steps, but then I'd have to leave the kitchen table.

You forgot where we pointed out (actually Ben pointed it out) that if you increased your window width by 3px that all of that would go away and then you whined like a petulant child and refused to do so and then kept bitching about it over and over and over again.
Just a minor detail.

This does not seem to happen in "Desktop Mode," but I can reproduce when I go back to the broken default responsive mode.
(To switch, click on your avatar in the upper right corner to bring up the menu. The desktop / responsive options should be below the Logout entry.)

I usually have it vertically maximized but almost never horizontally maximized.

Interesting. I could enable the "Desktop Mode" but now I can't go back because the menu no longer shows the radio buttons.
So... How do you switch back to responsive?

Try almost all. There's an SSH client available for ChromeOS which would let you get straight to the docker container on your ubuntu machine...

I can't switch to Desktop Mode successfully via Safari on my iPhone, but when I switch on my computer, the option for switching back is located under the user icon menu.

That's why there's a popup dialog where you have to confirm the switch. I guess that isn't being rendered correctly there?

I don't know, I didn't try to trace what's happening. I pulled out the menu (now on the new, "improved" left side!), pressed the option for Desktop Mode, and.... nothing happened. I tried reloading from bookmark, got the same, and then said fsck it and posted here.

Oh good, Intercourse is here.
No; I had the zoom set to 125% so it wasn't 3 pixels, it was something like 300 pixels, which made the window wide enough so that paragraphs didn't flow right and were too difficult for me to read.
Because the shitty code the morons who wrote this site uses doesn't account for browser zoom which calculating its pixel widths. An obvious, obvious bug which, natch, has never been fixed.
-

As far as I know, browsers do not expose their zoom level to the page's CSS.
