That spawned an all-out flamewar - some defending the bid winner, some agreeing, some getting pissed at spam, some sending popcorn gifs. Most of that, of course, landing on the All Employees list.
Reply to All asking when people are going to start asking to be taken off the list. Make sure that you send out the message as a Word document that quotes as many previous messages as possible just to add that one short sentence. And preferably a long footer that goes on about how the information in the message is confidential and must be deleted if it is received by an unintended recipient; everyone loves those.
I'm proud of my company sob

@Maciejasjmj We had a similar one at a previous job. Some regulation required that everyone be included in notices about a particular process, so one day everyone started getting these emails. No warning or explanation, just some pretty complicated and technical reports going out to probably thousands of people (one of the biggest investment banks in the UK).
Immediate "Please remove me from this list" reply-alls, an ignored response from some higher up explaining exactly why we all needed to get the email, and basic instructions on setting up a filter in Outlook, and then the "stop clicking reply all" complaints. The first couple of days it was tens of responses an hour, and after two weeks it was still over 10 per day. I think in the end they removed most employees' rights to reply to the mailing list.
This was before I'd heard of the original Bedlam story. When I did see it, the similarities were shocking

@PleegWat That may have been wishful thinking affecting my memory. I know I quickly set up something to route all the emails to a folder, and would hope that other people had done something similar

Exactly. Reply-All that you can be removed from the list by sending a short note to HR requesting removal. Note: May take up to two weeks to be processed.

Status: Finally figured out how to convince Skype to use a default CID for users who don't have a DID, but accept the DID as outbound CID for users who do have one.
Of course, the answer is to create two completely different Voice Policies for routing calls - one that overrides CID and applies to the plebs, and one that accepts the user's phone number as CID and applies to the s.

I've been to Bath (but not West Bath; didn't even know there is a West Bath), and paid for it out of my own pocket. I'd gladly go again for only $25, assuming they paid the airfare.

After a triple espresso? Good luck!
Not to Um Actually, but Um Actually...
There's some good sleep study science saying that's not a bad idea. Let's say you're tired and need a power nap. A ~20 minute power nap can do wonders-- it's just enough time to get into a resting sleep cycle, but not enough for a deep sleep. Of course, you need to wake up after 20 minutes.
Caffeine takes ~20 minutes to kick in.
So take your espresso shot, have a power nap, and ~20 minutes later you'll wake yourself up with the caffeine and be ready to chew bubble gum and/or kick ass.

Everyone is required to be included. Thus everyone must receive the email. There is nothing in the regulation that says everyone must READ the email.

Bath is too small to specify East and West.
I think the river runs East to West, so you might be able to sensibly split it into North and South Bath

I offered since I'd be at HQ tomorrow to drop by in person and they declined (they'll be OOO so that's fair).
I don't think it's going to be that bad since I haven't done anything (recently); probably more along the lines of

There's certainly imbalance in the tires now that I'm taking notes, we'll see if there's anything after having them adjusted.

It has probably been over a year, at least, that any of my personal machines have run spinning rust. It feels like my mouse is malfunctioning. The cursor randomly stops moving. Programs feel like they are hung. The lag is super annoying.
I figured out at least that part of it. New machine, new location for the mouse dongle, and it was causing issues. I moved the dongle to the USB hub and all works well now with the mouse.
As for what upgrading to a water cooler has gotten me...pure silence. Before, my CPU idled in the mid 40'sC, loading up all 8 cores took it above 65C which caused all the fans to max out and get really noisy. Been running Prime95 for 10-15 minutes:
Not too shabby. Still dead silent.

@Polygeekery said in The Official Status Thread:

I'd need a bigger case to go fully water cooled, but it's nice how quiet my graphics card is (and it's close to as good as you got without coupling several cards together when I bought it).
-
@heterodox said in The Official Status Thread:
It's foreboding
Well, luckily it didn't turn out to be anything like that but instead a heads up that I'll be getting a relatively nice bonus in my next paycheck. Obviously they don't communicate anything like that by phone.
So, guess I'm a pessimist. ... actually I already knew that. xD
-
@dkf said in The Official Status Thread:

I actually went smaller. As it had been years since I had any card except a graphics card in one of my computers, I downsized to Micro-ATX and got this case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133274
The motherboard is horizontal and the power supply under the motherboard, so it is probably a full 6" shorter than the Lian Li case that it replaced, has a huge front fan that is dead silent, and it has mounting for up to two 240mm radiators. So I put a Corsair H100i V2 in it. It appears it was worth a full 30C drop in temperature on the CPU.
As for the video card, I am not a gamer. I just need quiet and support for at least 3 displays. A Windforce GTX750ti fit the bill. Also dead silent.
I am happy with the upgrade.

So........... How to catch? It doesn't really do anything (so far as I can tell) if I fail to close an invalid handle (well, unless handle leaks is a thing?)

RTFM :)
If the function fails, the return value is zero. To get extended error information, call GetLastError.
(well, unless handle leaks is a thing?)
And yes. But if it's an invalid handle, it's not a leak.

So in other words do:
int toss = CloseHandle(hProc);

@dcon I'm still kind of confused... where'd the Unhandled exception in his screenshot come from, exactly?
-
So the way this thing is meant to work is, you add an MSTest 2 unit test to a project, then you turn on the Live Unit Test thing that's now in the test menu, and it should put checkmarks on the passing lines and Xs on the failing ones.
What it does is put blue dashes on every line, which say no tests cover the line when you mouse over them. And because this is new, no one knows anything about it.
-
@anotherusername said in The Official Status Thread:

The line with the little green arrow, which apparently means it happens outside my code.
-
@Tsaukpaetra so what I'm getting from that is,
CloseHandle(hProc)
will always throw the exception when it doesn't likehProc
, and it'll always be unhandled because it needs to be handled before it returns to your code. Your code isn't allowed to catch it.So you need to somehow figure out whether
hProc
is a valid handle before youCloseHandle
it?
