@Onyx gotta love PHP right?
-
@Arantor not sure what's at fault... I mean, the damned form doesn't load at all without JS, and clicking "forgot username" and getting to another form is all done with JS.
Since I got no emails, I buttume that someone didn't handle errors serverside, and they are just
echo
ing JSON or something back upon completion... but it probably asploded because of mailer error of some kind.
-
@Onyx oh there's definitely asploding. But I don't know any place in JS where an array being cast to a string being "Array", whereas this is totally on point for PHP.

I set an alarm on a Windows 10 tablet then immediately shut it down, to test its "InstantGo" feature.
When the alarm time came, the device screen lit up for a split second then immediately went dark again. So I guess half the process worked well!

WTF Bite of the Day: I need to print out a document from a website. The "Print" button opens a print-friendly version of the page, but it does so in a new browser window that is missing the menu and all options (including the print button) and has no visible "Print" button on the page.

WTF? Why don't they just remove that island in the middle? Stupid.

When I click "Print" on my payslip, it opens a PDF.
"Print" just doesn't seem to mean the same thing as it once did...
-
@dcon
Clicking print in Word Online also converts to PDF. It's practically the same as the download PDF button.

Is
window:print()
blocked on your browser?

Wha? Y2K specialist? How is this still a job?

Someone had to fix all those bugs that were put into production at the last minute! Or his 'u' is misbehaving...

Not merely a Y2K specialist, but a Y2K preparation specialist. Gotta make sure you're prepared the next time Y2K happens!

the thought about that actually being a thing made me shudder, because it's resemblance with reality

Is

All I needed was to print a proof of renters insurance. Instead of just printing from the website, which they made impossible from the "Print This Page" form, I had to have it email me a PDF, open the PDF locally, and print that instead. I almost thought I would need a wooden table.

@mott555 CTRL-P was disabled somehow ?

I don't use VIM so I don't know keyboard shortcuts.

I don't use VIM either, and I doubt it would result in VIM printing.
CTRL-P is print in Chrome/Firefox/IE/Word/Excel and pretty much every windows programs ever.
BTW, CTRL-C is for copy, CTRL-X is for cut, CTRL-V is for paste and CTRL-Z is for undo

It probably tried to invoke a
document.print()
but failed.Also

Byte contribution for today: No, lets not send text message for text content, instead, lets screenshot the note-taking app and send a picture message instead!
I couldn't convince the sender to print it out and snap me a photo of it on a wooden table...

So, I needed an SQL linter to debug some autogenerated SQL. Put
sql linter
into Google, first result isOk, cool, put my SQL in and... cut off? What, is it too long for you?
No, as it turns out it can't handle
&
characters. Seriously?&
characters? If you don't believe me, try something like this:SELECT 'Itchy' || ' & ' || 'Scratchy';
Produces:
SELECT 'Itchy' || '
What a piece of shit. Oh, hey, it has a Github, let's go report a bug!
SQLLint has been built with C# and NancyFX. It runs on Azure.Oh yay! Fancy! Trendy! In the cloud! Can't handle
&
characters! Woo!

@dcon
Clicking print in Word Online also converts to PDF. It's practically the same as the download PDF button.For some reason, doing this results in all formulas using a Korean font.
-
Ummm? OK? Thanks for that notice, Konsole? Why do you keep telling me that nothing is happening every 10 seconds? What do you want me to say? Well done?
What is it with stupid problems today?
-
-
@Jaloopa I think it's standard SQL so there's a few of them. IIRC, that includes Postgres, Oracle and SQLite.
-
Postgres
In this particular case. I prefer
CONCAT
in general since it won't trip on any accidentalNULL
s, but I like||
's conciseness for quick and dirty testing.
-
@Onyx because they're muppets.
What happens is that they don't bother to sanitise for characters that might be tricky in HTTP like those pesky
&
characters so it ends up sending a POST to their API with:data: SELECT 'Itchy' || ' ' || 'Scratchy':
As in, treating the
&
as a separator to the next POST key. Congrats.
-
-
@dkf no, they ate ampersands, weren't you paying attention? :P
-
@Arantor I've looked at the source (because what else do I have to do at lunch than look at slightly different code to what I've been looking at all morning?).
It literally just needs an
encodeURIComponent
on the SQL.None of the linting is actually done by the project that's on Github. It's just a super basic wrapper around a Nugetted NSQLFormatter reference
-
@Onyx did you actually report the bug? If you did, it appears to have gone AWOL from Github...
-
@Nocha Nah, the facepalm stopped me... Then I figured out I'd have to log in in a private window (I'm logged in as work account and I don't use that one for side-stuff) and mess around with KeePass, so I decided I'll do it once I get home instead.
-
@Onyx fair enough. I was wondering if something had gone a little wonky somewhere... It seems not.
-
@Onyx Given that there was one commit, a year ago, I wonder whether they'd actually do anything with a bug report/pull request
-

Today's WTF Bite: Trying to change my address online with the USPS. The website requires a move date. However, any date I enter is automatically cleared once the box loses focus, and then the form fails validation due to a missing date.
EDIT: It's doing the exact same thing for Date of Birth.
EDIT 2: Tried Edge in case it's a Firefox issue but the site won't even load in Edge, I just get an internal web server error page.
EDIT 3: Finally fixed it, I think. I had to "fix" their validation in the Firefox developer tools.
