@dkf I agree. But in JS it is wise to cache DOM queries for example.

@lucas1 To be fair, some of the things that my users do really does do that sort of thing. Saturating the CPU of a small cluster (only about $50k's worth of kit) for a day is a reasonable thing for what they're up to. I try to get smarter with my own code though; exhaustive searches of computationally complex spaces isn't my sort of thing…
In our company cloud one of our projects has been encountering CPU soft lockups; research seemed to indicate that this could be due to other VMs starving our VMs of resources. This caused everyone to realize we were on the same ESXi hosts as developers' virtual machines; whenever they run builds and the like, our infrastructure services start to choke.
... I can't believe no one saw that coming. Can't reasonably ask for developers to be given less resources; they need to run many builds a day, so they should get as many resources as possible. We might have to move off into AWS or Azure (which will be a whole thing).

Is it a WTF to suggest
#include
ing a C file into the test file in this case? You probably have to conditionally compile that include in, so you might as well conditionally compile the static keywords out instead. But...
Or is it a WTF to test static functions at all?
Pretty much. The important thing is to test that the module's public interface does what it's supposed to. Static functions are an implementation detail.

Oh. Well that part's pretty rough. But I don't think it's as bad as the whole eye thing.

And this is why I have no interest in watching any of it. At all. Ever.
(And I haven't even seen that part.)

There was a time that I would have fought you on this point. That time is long gone.
I'm actually kind of angry that they didn't kill my favorite character because now I'm still invested in the show.

I don't really want to say 'as a parent...', but this is the sort of situation I think it's valid for.

I'd do it during job hours. The job requires it, I don't. They (the job) don't get my time for free!

STATUS:
Decided to code a hand-made frontend build system for today's/this week's mini project. No grunt, no gulp, just plain vanilla nodejs.
It's surprisingly pleasant. No wrestling with crappy modules, bad documentation, leaky abstractions. It's a bit more code, but smooth sailing all the way through.
I'm sure I'd get in trouble if I tried to do some of that fancy auto-reloading shit. But for a simple little project, this isn't bad at all.

This. However, it can be useful to test cases where you use the implementation to know that a particular set of inputs are a potential problem.
There's also the principle of designing for testability, but I find that if I've got the API of some code about right (and satisfying to me) then testing it is usually not a problem. Crafting the tests of every failure mode is non-trivial in any case, but the API is typically not the problem.

Or when be asked by someone in one of my ex-company, my answer: To infinity and beyond!
During the time I work in at that company we run into manpower shortage, all non-emergency support requests are doomed to dust in queue like forever. Because some staffs of our clients are actually ex-staffs of that company, they all know what it means. :P
I have no idea on who started that, though.

I can't read any thread on mobile to save my life. Something else always pops up, most commonly as a result of me accidentally hitting a notifications link because the notifications panel appears out of nowhere. Don't know if I'm just clumsy on mobile or if EVERYTHING IS A NAVIGATION ELEMENT.
Seriously though, if I accidentally drag three pixels leftward on the extreme left side of the page, I DON'T need the notifications panel right now. Wharrrgarbl.

@Tsaukpaetra My Windows Update keeps bugging me every few weeks that it needs user interaction to install a SD card reader driver. I click the dialog and then nothing happens.
That fucking Realtek SD card reader has given me more driver problems than every other device in my system put together.

My approach: Close the bag and put it in the supplies cupboard. If I can't resist the pull of another, I must walk to the supply cupboard, take the bag, open it, extract one snack, close it again, store it away again, and walk back to my PC.
This way the bag lasts way longer than when it's open next to my PC.
