@HardwareGeek said in First there were SolarRoads, now there will be PlasticRoads.:
If we leave the oil on the ground (as asphalt and/or plastic manhole covers), is that like leaving it in the ground?
Yes. Any carbon that's part of the polymers of the plastic isn't being burned and turned into carbon dioxide.
You can cycle on the asphalt roads and plastic manhole covers if it makes you feel any better

I'd add another litmus test: Am I allowed to bargain about the money I'm paid?
I guess I fail to see what that would prove?

Later on I'm also going to fit it with a laser for burning/etching.
There shouldn't be anything preventing you from just sticking a 3D printer head on it if you wanted that as well, right?
@Weng said in We need *all the shiny*:
THAT THING COSTS HOW MUCH AND THE PRINT HEAD IS POSITIONED BY COGGED RUBBER BELTS!? JESUS FUCK PEOPLE, SCREW DRIVE IS NOT FUCKING HARD.
Is screw drive better? I've seen some CNC setups on Youtube and I think they all use belts for positioning.

@boomzilla I wonder whether the people answering “C# / JS / SQL” even know what database they're using?
I didn't see the survey questions. SQL Server seemed to be the only DB mentioned by name in the results, though.

What good is the chip if you can still steal the card and forge a signature that nobody will ever look at?
I'll report the card stolen so it's not really a problem (for me). If it's that big a deal for the banks I assume they'll require PINs eventually.

I find it telling Node didn't really take off until someone invented Promises.

I hear $1000 snakeoil HDMI cables actually improve the quality of music streamed over RPIs.

@Tsaukpaetra Maybe they couldn't be bothered putting in separate code paths, and just said "eh, if you buy a full license we'll set it to MAX_SHORTINT days and if it's a problem for you after that you can call customer service."

I think the proper management response to that would be: "Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...what byproduct?"

I wondered about that as well. It might be a selection bias because lazy fucks might be more inclined to stay at home.
Ok, I'm going to start using you are instead.
Those words only really save time while speaking. While writing, they have only served to introduce errors.

@Jaloopa said:does it mention recent traction?
I suppose it doesn't, but that just shows how much larger a heap of bullshit it is. Look at any list of biggest/most X and brands with that characteristic will be in the minority.
WoW won't last for too long - since WotLK there is almost no attractive content for ex-players. And if you played WoW, you will have at the best the same experience as then. I don't think that Blizzard will introduce anything interesting to WoW, because MMORPG can be boring if played for too long (including years of course). I doubt that Blizzard will make ex-players back to WoW, unless they will come up with really good plot. But they are doing pandas and alternative timelines. Did they run out of ideas what to do with WoW?!
I don't think that Blizzard will end. They are coming up with new games. Not as big ones as WoW, but that games will draw attention only because Blizzard made them. I don't think it is good idea to judge Blizz for 1 game, even if it provides biggest profits for them.
@Yamikuronue said:I don't usually keep a few hundred extra in my checking account to be tied up in superfluous holds -- anything not earmarked for immediate needs in my budget goes to a secondary account to save up for larger expenses down the line.
At the moment there's a few banks offering real interest rates on current accounts, so my current account is also my main savings account. It's quite convenient, although it does mean you have to pay a bit more attention to make sure you're not overspending.

@Onyx said:Can't you set a filesystem watcher? I know Windows has the equivalent of inotify you can hook into, but I don't know what it's called. I know Qt hooks into it so it is programaticaly accessible.
Yes, that is being done. The problem is that on Windows at least those numbers drift considerably from actual. It is the hard links that cause it I believe. In our case the numbers are pretty much gibberish after heavy updating (several concurrent backups).

Nevermind. The reason I wanted an AIO for the kitchen was so I could eschew a keyboard and mouse. I was wanting a touchscreen AIO, so an iMac is not going to do me any good.
I do not disagree with him at all. Every success and every failure starts at the top and trickles down. Good leaders hire good people that do good work and shitty leaders hire shitty people that do shitty work.
Never be afraid to hire people that are better than you are. They won't make you look bad. On the contrary they will make you look like a rockstar. Only shitty leaders are afraid to hire people who are better than they are.
@lolwhat said:That shit doesn't happen in the free world, where everyone has a collij edjikashun, does it?
Definitely not, and there's absolutely no fuckwittery that is reserved for college students because it requires the capacity to grasp abstract concepts to fall for it.
Try running the w3c validator on the target page. If the html is really badly hideously malformed this can happen sometimes. We need better handling in that case.
@Zemm said:Some places have moved from Blackboard to Moodle.
The department school I'm currently seconded to uses Moodle. The rest of the university uses a hosted Blackboard instance. This is a cause of some friction between the school and the university, but that's hardly new. I don't care one way or the other (or even pay much attention); I avoid all the teaching side of things as much as possible (well, at least until they start doing their projects, when you can start talking to the students like they're human).
