@Dragoon Well, that too.
In other, more hopeful news:
I really hope that this test is accurate enough to be distributed widely.
It's an antibody test, which means it will tell you if you have had the virus and recovered from it, but not if you are in the early stages of the infection right now.
And? It's very useful to know who was one of the asymptomatic carriers or who had only weak symptoms. Especially for the hospital staff.
Or if your current symptoms are coming from the flu/cold/whatever or from Corona.

A doctor I'm friends with also mentioned they'd probably be testing blood donations for it soon (once an antibody test is available, which that other post mentioned). This would test a larger number of healthy people and give more insight into the number of unreported cases.
But that was two weeks ago, with the current lockdown I'm not sure if blood donations are even being done right now.

I was going to mention a random thing heard on the radio a couple of days ago, but I vanquished the and actually checked the official website: in France, blood donations are still running and going to a collection centre is one of the accepted reasons for going out (under the broad "helping vulnerable persons" header). They're asking people to book in advance and to not come if they've got "flu symptoms", understandably, but that's all.
I'd expect that a bit less blood is needed currently, with less road traffic so probably less accidents, and less chirurgical acts overall (as hospitals have postponed any non-urgent operation), but I'm not sure by how much that really reduces needs, plus anyway the official website says that 50% of the needs is for chronic illnesses and these are probably not changed (maybe in a few cases they can space out treatment, but probably not that much). Since blood doesn't keep for very long (plasma does, but not the rest), they'll need a fresh constant supply.
Which reminds me that I really, really,
shouldmust overcome whenever there is a collection organised at work and donate.

Not yet, no. But they're an at-risk group, so expect to see some reduction soon-ish.
Also, if the donations can't be tested as of now... Do they all get the virus along with their next dose?

-
@Applied-Mediocrity While surely a tragedy for those involved, I don't quite see what this has to do with Corona, virii, or Italy.
Wrong thread maybe?

As for the fact that this seems the wrong thread... you're right.

No, the virus doesn't get transmitted that way (from what I've been told). That's why you need the antibody test instead of the virus test for this.

You also don't want to run into the potential problem that topless women sunbathing face-down on the beach face - momentarily forgetting your partial lack of attire.
But, I suspect.

We rarely, if ever, have the camera enabled. I clothe because it's 8°C outside, and if I didn't wear clothes I'd spend more on heating. Plus maintaining a daily rhythm is beneficial psychologically.

I definitely don't disagree. I thought the tweet was funny because now I wonder how many people I've had teleconferences with have been wearing pants.
I've had my office in our home for ~12 years now. In the beginning I enjoyed working in super comfy clothes from wherever I wanted to. Scrub pants and a t-shirt from the couch, etc. Then I read one of the tips for working from home is to have an area that is solely for work and get dressed and presentable when you "go to work".
It really does help. It changed my demeanor when I would make cold calls to drive business growth (god I hated doing cold calls).
Amusing coronavirus work from home anecdote:
The other day my wife needed a quiet spot away from the chaos of the kids to have a web meeting. She decides to go to the basement. I ask her if her webcam was on and she said it was always off for those meetings.
Well, something changed and I guess she clicked the wrong thing when it asked about using her webcam. She joins the meeting from our storage area with all the majesty of it's clutter right behind her.
Good thing she didn't setup in my reloading area. It could have been worse.
-
@Polygeekery I've noticed that even when not working from home, the formality of a person's clothing makes a difference in their demeanor and attitude. We occasionally have "jeans days" for faculty where we can wear t-shirts and jeans (normally it's more formal than that, basically business casual). And my attitude is different when I do. And my influence over the kids' behavior is different. And when they have spirit days or other "non-dress-code" days, their attitude changes markedly. And I don't think it's intentional. Something about dressing up (relative to your norm) makes a psychological difference.
