The Real Slim Wilters

@boomzilla Dammit, I leave for ~150 million seconds and you have more posts than me.
-
@morbiuswilters
He's back!!!!
-
@morbiuswilters I think @SpectateSwamp caught up with you too. Oh yeah, he is still posting.
Edit: whoops, confused his rep with his post count. Never mind
-
@The_Quiet_One I'll confess, I'm a little unclear on this "reputation" thing. What underlying metric does it represent?
.....
It's number of Asian businessmen you've given back-alley handies to, right?
I mean.. I don't remember each alto squeal of delight, but "931" sounds accurate, give or take a few trips to Hong Kong.

Morbius doesn't even make the first page any more. 12k posts. Pathetic!
-
@jinpa Pathetic!?
I'll have you know each of those hand-crafted 12.6k posts were hand-crafted during a period, of, like, maybe 18 months?
That's 700-ish posts a day! And you have the temerity to call me pathetic!
-
@morbiuswilters Tell you what, you make a note of your reputation right now. Later, I'll give you an upvote and we can see what's changed. I'm sure it'll be a fascinating experience.
-
Was: 931
Now: 933Based on my ability to read non-verbal cues in your post, I assume it has to do with upvotes?
Although I did also just finish off two investment bankers from Macau, so my Handy Hypothesis stands.

I agree with whatever Morbs just said.

There were multiple layers of facetious/non-facetious in that one sentence. I've always been somewhat impressed/horrified (there should be a word for that) by the members of the 10,000+ club. So let's assume, that those 700 were distributed over no more than 16 hours a day. So 700/16 ~= 44/hour, or about one every 90 seconds or so, without stopping for coffee breaks.
Yes, that is impressive.
-
@jinpa The trick is to have no life and borderline psychological issues which prevent you from leaving your home.
Back in the day I single-handedly flamed three or four small European nations into submission here, including France.
They called me crazy, but now the EU's stablest country is Slovakia!

This theory does not hold. We had a gay SJW furry on here for a while that you would have found interesting.
Maybe each time you play a power bottom to some anonymous dude wearing a squirrel suit it is -1? We can make the model fit the data, but this seems sloppy.

This may be the most boring discussion that has ever occurred.
Ever.
You must have missed the many discussions of the fine points of the C++ standard chapter 7, section 4 subsection 23 subsubsection 9: what "is" is.
Or those threads that were thousands of posts of @fox an @intercourse calling each other retards back and forth.

I know it’s seems to be kind of a big thing to see both @belgariontheking and @morbiuswilters back in the the same week, but please mind the category here. While topic drift is like the first law of TDWTF, this is the civilized salon.

So @pie_flavor thinks Node-BB is worse than DisCourse? I didn't know any regulars had that opinion. All of the other softwares there were complaints about (e.g. Community Server), and the complaints reached a crescendo in Discourse. I hardly ever notice a criticism of Node-BB, maybe it's just that people are better about keeping their complaints to the Meta category, which I don't visit all that often?
-
@jinpa said in Both true and utterly unhelpfully misleading:

To be fair, that's because his experience of differs from ours; his world has the working version. This gives me hope that somebody will stumble in from a world with a working Xanadu implementation.
-
@jinpa said in Both true and utterly unhelpfully misleading:

He's from a different planet, Earth-73, where it apparently does work better. Obviously, that's not the case on our version of Earth.
has its share of bugs, to be sure — notifications and broken streaming in Unread being, probably, the worst. (Unread has allegedly been fixed, but for some unexplained reason we haven't updated yet.) There were a few things Discurse did better, but the agreement is universal (@pie_flavor excepted) that is clearly better overall.
-
@jinpa I have literally never experienced a problem with Discourse. And I have experienced problem after problem after problem with NodeBB. So it's a reasonable opinion to have.

But there's also some confounds to note. First, there's the Tsaukpaetra effect. Any posts made before your arrival did not get the bonus "Here's an upvote just for being you!" that all posts got after your arrival, with the exceptions of the posts you made yourself! But more importantly, anyone who has a high Reputation to Posts ratio probably availed themselves of the Likes thread, so it's a thoroughly meaningless metric.
on the Tsaukpaetra effect. But I analyzed it better.

The Likes thread (in my opinion) is a mocking response to gameification in CDCK.

No, it's a reference to Discourse which literally gives you mod privileges just for having many posts and many likes.
-
@Gąska Not quite. You do get access to private areas and some weak mod-like privileges automatically, but real mod privileges require manual action from an admin.
-
@HardwareGeek don't expect me to put an entire essay with an in-depth analysis of the topic in every off-hand remark.
-
@HardwareGeek I used to be an admin.
Back on Community Server.
Of course, those were the Old Days. Back when Internet forums were about Community and not the rapid-fire, Grindr-like experience of modern Internet forums, like Intercourse.
It's okay, I'm not bitter. It's like being a pre-21st Century President: there was dignity in it back then.

It depends on what the meaning of the word "was" is.

Signature Guy was an inside job. We knew about it and we permitted it.
@Gąska said in Both true and utterly unhelpfully misleading:

It's like I tell the judge: when I say "was" that's just the complex electrochemical processes in my neurons ejaculating structured information. Sometimes the provability--even plausibility--of the statements made by those electrochemical processes are impaired by complex, social constructs like "manufactured consensus reality", "non-Euclidean epistemologies", "Heidegger's ruminations on Being and Time", and "how many cases of Natty Lite I had before the alleged 'driving-my-pickup-into-the-wall-of-the-liquor-store' incident."
-
@morbiuswilters I can't figure out why you're even saying all that. I don't know where you're serious and where you're blatantly lying. I'm not even able to tell whether you've understood what I was talking about. Very fine troll. 10/10 would read again.
