which country?
Does it matter?
But if it does: That information is one click away.

Ah. Well, that information doesn't really apply to me here in the USA.

@dcon Despite this being my work PC and Office being already installed by corporate IT.
Well, the last step of Office 2013/2016 setup removes it.
If it got installed after your Office software, the installer have no chance to remove that. (And all it knows about is Office 365 actually)
-
Btw, while I do remember the "Get Office App", on my multiple Win10 installations I've never had it installed any games on my system.
Are you sure your install disks come from right place? (I know a few support people who, although their company bought enough Windows and Office license, they download and use copied of Win10 installation media from various sites that said their copy provides slipstream installation experience, and have Office and latest Microsoft patches installed by default, and has various system performance tuneups)
-

@Polygeekery I used it to get Slack, Spotify, Netflix, Kindle reader, … and it's the only way to get apps for my aging Windows Phone.
MuseScore, WinSCP, non-background-syncing versions of OneDrive and DropBox, Twitter, Messenger...

@aitap said in Windows and the unwanted apps [Angry rant time]:
Which user's problem does it solve?
The Store has automatic background updates. Previously each if these apps installed their own custom inefficient buggy updater service with annoying popup notifucations

The Microsoft Media Creation Tool in my case. So I'm using the latest official image.

If "it" refers to Windows, that's one promising strategy.

Microsoft itself distributes an ISO building tool, which you can either boot from or run setup.exe from. The built ISO comes with Candy Crush.
-

What version? Accounting has a whole stack of processes based on their current image.
-
@Gribnit Whatever the latest one was ten days ago.
-
@pie_flavor If this were true, I assume there is serious fuckup inside Microsoft, because I think after Win2k, "install games by default" in business targeted SKUs are strict no-no item.
Btw, is that your Microsoft account had installed any of the games before? Windows will "helpfully" install all the apps (not just games... I even got my Visual Studio 2015 restored when I reinstalled on my desktop) you installed on the other device (like Windows Phone) if there exists version installable on your current machine.
-
@cheong If that were so, Soundcloud and Spotify would have ended up on the machine as well.
This is a Home license, mind you, not a business targeted SKU. I would be surprised if Microsoft Certified Bloatware ended up on Professional.
-
@pie_flavor I have Pro and Candy Crush didn't install itself, but there doesn't seem to be a consistent experience.

Did you upgrade or install from fresh? I have a sneaking suspicion that upgrades don't get the add-ons, but fresh installs might.
I upgraded 2 machines (both to Pro, since that was what the free upgrade from Windows 7 Pro gave) and haven't had Candy Crush on either machine.
-
@Benjamin-Hall Upgrade so maybe that's why.
edit: No, actually, it might have been a fresh install. I can't remember, it was a while ago.
edit 2: According to this it was a fresh install.
-
@loopback0 Well, that shoots down that theory (or at least puts the damper on it).

Alright, so I finally got a brand-fresh VM going, Windows 10 Pro, 1703 (because that's the latest ISO I have at the moment).
Got through OOBE, no network (because VirtIO drivers not pre-installed). I'm presented with:
Oh that's fine, lemme add that registry hack, now that you've pre-slated the installation of "A great app!", and see if that cancels them, because you can't uninstall them from the Start Menu:
And of course, since they're not installed yet I can't use the Settings App to remove them.
Sweet, now let's reboot just in case (it won't make a difference) and let all them apps install...
Well, fuck, as expected, here they come. Please wait, downloading, because why would I want to cancel downloading an app I didn't want?
Alright, looks like I got 'em all, let's get Update 1803!
Yeah, yeah! No sure why you didn't want to use Windows Update for this, like you're supposed to, but hey, whatever, new shit gotta be new...
Wait, what? Hold on, I must have fucked up somesetting or shit...
No, I fucking did not. What the shit?!?!
Well, maybe normal Windows Update can help me out here...
Alright, fine, gotta update before you can update, even though a Feature Update is really just an in-place install (as is frequently mentioned). (cue 2 hours of waiting and rebooting).
Ah, there we go. Well, until it kernel panics for who the fuck knows why reasons.
Wait, no, still fucked. Well, I guess I'll put a pause on this adventure until I can get a new ISO for 1803....

@Tsaukpaetra I believe that was one of the issues they patched out.

@pie_flavor said in Windows and the unwanted apps [Angry rant time]:
@Tsaukpaetra I believe that was one of the issues they patched out.
Which one? There are several.
Additionally, I am now stuck in error code hell for no apparent reason, right from a fresh install.
Certainly, it was patched out...
Edit: Not to mention that I had to click the uninstall option on most of the Apps a minimum of twice (they kept reappearing in the start menu list (not the tiles) after a reboot until they stopped coming back. Candy Crush apparently had six lives.
-
@Tsaukpaetra You're booting from a built Win10 iso file?
Because I literally just did that eleven days ago to test what Microsoft Support was telling me a reinstall would fix. So I know that it's absolutely possible.

Maybe MS is doing A/B testing?
It's just that Instead of A/B, it's all the way from A to Z, plus the Greek alphabet.

Even today, this is still the Microsoft Support solution: format and re-install, it will fix it?

Bored waiting for the Microsoft Download Tool. Let's run the Troubleshooter!
:you_dont_say.gif:
Somehow I don't think this will "Resolve" the issue.
Nope. I will take the time here to point out that the Windows Update troubleshooter immediately suggested it should delete the download folder right after it called the "Install updates now" function! What the shit!
"Hey! You should install the updates! Oh! Nevermind, while I started that, let's yoink the download folder from underneath myself so in case that would actually fix the problem, it definitely will not because the files will be missing forever!"
Apparently, reading a few dozen registry entries takes a lot of effort...
Look at all those green checkmarks! I must be good to go, right? (Side note: How can all these things be corrupted, missing, or broken on a fresh install? WTH?)
Oh wait, no, seems like the Troubleshooter lied to me. Big surprise... Well, it was a fun diversion. Back to downloading a fresh ISO I guess...
Unzipping a few files and making a few http catalog requests sure takes a while...
So... will this include Windows 10 Pro for the Windows 10 Pro version that I currently have installed? Why bother making a dropdown with one option?
Here's to hoping there are literally no interruptions and everything runs smoother than a baby's oiled ass...
-

Well the download and ISO creation (apparently) went smoothly.
Try two!
-

Alright, here we go...
You know, if it's literally impossible to get connected to a network (due to lack of hardware, "Unidentified Device" or not), maybe just put a frowny face and move on automatically?
Ah... well whaddya know, we got all our fun "Consumer Experience" all set to be downloaded! Can we pre-cancel the pre-pared apps?
Nope! Fuck you. Well, whatever, off to apply the placebo registry key...
And reboot, install network card, and...
Huzzah! ... Wait...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, fuck. Time to get to slowly right-click (because making a context menu pop up is hard and requires nearly a second to process)...
Hey! " Uninstall" right there! Perhaps improvements have been made!
Nevermind.
Seems I need to download these pieces of shit before removing them...
For now, just "un-pinned" them, hopefully they won't magically reappear.
Now for the actual purpose of this test.
@pie_flavor said in Windows and the unwanted apps [Angry rant time]:
@Zerosquare Never had any of those problems with mine. Shit like that is the fault of whoever is the OEM. I have both standard Windows bloatware and Gigabyte bloatware - the former stays gone, the latter comes back when I do major updates. Do a full from-scratch reinstall from a built Win10 ISO mounted on a thumb drive, and you won't see those programs come back.
So, having used the Official Microsoft downloader, when I reset (i.e. full from-scratch reinstall from a built Win10 ISO mounted on a
thumbvirtual CD Rom drive), will those programs come back?IT HAS SO BEEN PROMISED! YES! GIVE ME ALL THE BARRENNESS!
Yes, yes, I answered a UAC prompt after clicking this button. Are you sure?
Good. Fuck off, OneDrive! Yes, I'm still sure...
Last chance! Oh no!
Wait, is it....
Oh, good, not re-downloading the whole fucking install image at least. But I find it very curious that I can continue to work on my PC while it's doing shit, but yet the shaded window thing is indeed covering my mouse clicks. Eerie...
Oh well. I'll just wait here comforted that Microsoft forgot all about its keyboard users when making the Reset your PC app.
Here we go!
I will please to be waiting for you. While I wait, maybe you can enjoy some musique:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_E2EHVxNAE
We seem to have forgotted this was a Reset and have reverted to a Refresh.
Ooh! I haven't seen this screen before! It's not using the normal font size things. Curious. Anyways, more waiting...
Updates? You supposedly just fucking clean-installed, there shouldn't be any updates to have gotten in the 16 seconds it took to show the auto-logged-in user...
Well, fine, sure...
Well that certainly didn't happen when I first installed an hour ago. Go away, Edge, I'll deal with you later!
Well, wouldja look at that! Hello friends! Now fuck off!
There we go. Now I'll join this shit to the domain and do what I wanted to do with this VM (yay Jenkins slave!) and conclude this experiment.
-
@Tsaukpaetra That's not an in-place reinstall. I said in-place reinstall. You did a full reinstall. An in-place reinstall does not touch anything except system files. Programs and such remain installed. If something happens during an in-place reinstall, it happens during a major update; if it doesn't, it doesn't.
To do an in-place reinstall, you'd use the ISO creation tool, double-click the ISO to mount/open it, run setup.exe, and select 'keep all programs and files'.

That probably means the Microsoft account he use to install your system probably has these installed on other machines he uses (home, maybe?).
There is one more possibility that you've mistaken the "Suggested" icons as installed apps (See the image in the page below), although not very likely.

Patch Tuesday isn't the one to worry about. It's the semi-annual system refresh. (Insider builds now seem to be coming out every 2 or 3 days... We must be getting close.)
