NONE OF THIS IS ABOUT LIME SCOOTERS!
TDWTF never struck me as the sort of site where people care about staying on topic.
It depends how dull the derailment is.
Sometimes we even derail back to the original topic! For a little while...

Yeah, I hate when that happens.

@El_Heffe Oh, in that case...

8% of Lime riders have either a temporary or a permanent disability
I guess they didn't count mental disability

@hungrier you beat me to it.

@JBert Those seated scooters have been available from your chinese ripoffer of choice for years now. But yeah, Lime designed them.

Lime designed an e-scooter
I don't think they had to “design” anythink. Scooters with seats have existed for some time already.
-
@topspin I tried searcing for "e-scooter seat riding" and got a hit for "PUBLIC QUAD DILDO FUCK" ...
I mean... I can sortof see how the mangling of my search could pull that up... And I do agree with the search AI that it is a lot more interesting than what I actually searched for.

@Carnage Which search engine did you use? Asking for a friend...
Duckduckgo this time.

@levicki Yeah, search engines are like that.

Uh, how would any of us know what device you are posting from when you post?
You mean, other than by the lack of any special formatting such as bold and italic, lack of quotes in my replies, no hyperlinks, no images, and no

tag? Yeah, it's really hard to tell. You speak for yourself. Mobile is my primary device to use this site, and you can see I have no such issues.

I have a permanent sticky note to try and remind me about ignoring this. Sometimes (I'm on mobile where the sticky note isn't) I forget and call it out.

It's because Safari on iOS has terrible JavaScript performance so the forum for the next decade just doesn't run on it. Or something like that.

this be the one that you need hardware and browser from 2030 to get good performance on it in 2020?

Yeah. And because it's dynamic and under development,
$CURRENT_DECADE
is constantly updated, so.. yeah

Oh well, time to derail the thread again. Not sorry about that, although somewhat apprehensive about having missed something that obviously everyone but me knows.
Looking through the rest of this page, I saw some oddities. Did Levicki get a hard ban or something?

I’ve been seeing a few branded scooters around the last few weeks but only now remembered to look up the name once I was home.
Seems they do something of an anti-Uber, in that they actually work with local governments and apparently the vehicles are restricted to a particular area. Seems they and the LGA will be running a trial for a year or so to gauge interest etc. Website seems pretty shy on pricing details, guess you need the app, but I infer that a ‘normal’ trip wouldn’t exceed $5 or so.
Still, though I’ve seen the scooters around I’ve absolutely never encountered anyone using one. Certainly each time I come across one I’m already on my bike which I’m hardly going to pay for the privilege of abandoning. Does anyone really use these things, or is it just another pseudoindustry propped up by VC to solve a problem nobody had?
-
@kazitor Zoomers 'round here use them with careless abandon (in more than one meaning of the phrase). There's a 15 km/h zone in the town center and much of the outer part of the town is a no-park zone, so if I was feeling generous, I'd live and let live. But because of idiot riders - it's not that they don't know better, it's that they don't care - I'm not feeling generous at all
I was kind of hoping that with cold weather they'll fuck off already, but so far it hasn't happened.
-
@kazitor I've seen people using them around here. I think it's a waste of VC money, but I have no idea how much income they bring in "out in the wild“.
They'll be packed up for the winter pretty soon, I imagine.

It would be nice if police started busting them for speeding. The things normally have a 25 km/h limiter, so in a 15 km/h zone a careless ride will likely be speeding and can be fined for it.
-
@Bulb The limit is enforced remotely. The problem (one of many) is that in their smooth brains the upper limit is also the lower limit.
-
@kazitor said in Lime scooters:

Judging by how many get left in stupid places here I'd say so.

That too.

I’m just sad that the silliness I’d read about here has finally found its way to my corner of the world
