Well, sure. Endemic to the design of the system, really. But it's usually not too noticable at frist glance.
Iâm sure would beg to differ. Or rather, quite a few others too.

*blushes* I'm noticed?

@Tsaukpaetra Oh good, now I'm imagining you as an anime schoolgirl.

I so VERY nearly wrote that before adjusting it!

@Atazhaia I managed to not fully form this idea in my mind when I first read that. But you had to spoil it all, didn't you?

Behold, the dumbest Windows keyboard shortcut of them all
Ctrl+Win+Alt+Shift+L, a key combination that you probably can't hit with one hand, opens LinkedIn. That's it.I'm not trying that out. So I'm going to assume this is some kind of sick joke.

This is real, can confirm. It does indeed open LinkedIn and will use your default browser (not just buttume Edge)
-
@Arantor will it open it in Portuguese?
Whenever I happen to end up at LinkedIn (mostly not what I wanted), it shows me shit in Portuguese, and has no way to change that.

Yeah, also (on QWERTY layout at least) can be done with one hand.
Ctrl+Win+Alt+Shift opens Microsoft365.com

Competition for the shittest konami code won. Well done.

Wait, what? Does that mean you have to take care to press L absolutely together with the other four keys, rather than pressing CtrlWinAltShift first with one hand and only then hitting the L with the other, else you go to Microsoft365.com instead of LinkedIn.com like you wanted?
-
No, it's smarter than that - if you press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win it'll wait for you to either press L, or release to open Microsoft 365.
As for whether it opens in Portuguese or not, cannot confirm; am filthy English user, observe LinkedIn login page in English when pressing all the buttons together.

D: Open OneDrive
E: Euro (In Notepad)
N: Open OneNote App (The AppX version)
O: Open Outlook
P: Open Powerpoint
T: Open Teams
W: Open Word
X: Open Excel
Y: Open YammerI feel like I saw a list about these somewhere...

Which is exactly how just the windows key works.

I guess the Office Key is just sending Ctrl+Alt+Win+Shift.

Isn't that what you use when you're the first to arrive in the morning?
-
As a lucky Windows 7 user, I will not be plagued with those stupid newfangled combinations. They just do nothing on my machine.
Because Windows 7 is compatible.

As someone who's often the last to arrive, I wouldn't know.

That is still dumb, because if you decide you donât want to go to LinkedIn after all, after pressing Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win but before hitting the L, you will be forcibly taken to MS 365. WhoTF thought itâs a good idea to perform an action when only modifier keys are pressed?
-
@Gurth The same people who thought Alt+Shift was a great shortcut for switching keyboard layout.
-
@Zecc That gets me a lot. Shift-Alt-click is a very frequent action in a particular program I use quite often, but I sometimes decide I don't really want to select more things, and then I suddenly find myself ĎĎ ĎΚνγ Κν ÎĎξξκ (or what I'm more likely to notice first, since that program doesn't usually involve much actual typing, Right-Alt starts behaving differently than Left-Alt and selects something different than I intended).

What's this silly stuff about not hitting it with one hand? Not that it'd do much onLlinux anyway, but still, perfectly doable one handed.
-
@Carnage I guess it's because for a long time, when a shortcut said "Alt" it meant Alt, and trying to use it with Alt Gr wouldn't work.
I had to test to see if this shortcut would work with Alt Gr instead of Alt (and thus, be useble wholly with the right hand) because I couldn't just assume it would.
-
@Medinoc I can
do itpress the necessary keys with just my left handJiggling the cursor to prove one hand is involved. And as you can see, my keyboard has no âmetaâ key on the right:
Addendum:
furthermore, pressing and releasing the modifiers does indeed make them vanish from the input:
-
@Carnage I guess it's because for a long time, when a shortcut said "Alt" it meant Alt, and trying to use it with Alt Gr wouldn't work.
That isn't about long or short time ago, it is about your keyboard layout. Some keyboard layouts have additional symbols mapped to AltGr combinations, so with them, keyboard shortcuts for Alt don't work with it. On any other keyboard layout, it is just another Alt.
-
Jiggling the cursor to prove one hand is involved.
You know, if you hadn't said anything I would have believed you.
But now I'm wondering if you brought someone else in to help you jiggle the mouse or if you did it with your foot.
-
@kazitor i tried doing it with my left hand on the left side just to verify I could. But I mean, my hand vs regular keyboard:
It's flat on top of the keyboard.

Always!

I suspect it may have to do with only having a left Windows key
-
my hand vs regular keyboard:
(edit: actually, I might be reading_it_wrong / itâs too late, disregard everything) Your hand seems simiarly-sized to mine, relative to the keyboard, maybe even a bit bigger going by the base of the thumb.
I held the modifiers with my fourth and fifth digits, then pressed L with my thumb.

One Windows key is enough for anyone.

Yeah, I did that too...
And yeah, hands look silly big put across a keyboard.

You know what they say about men with big hands?
They can press widely spaced keyboard shortcuts with one hand.

My suggestion would be adding Escape, which probably still does something but might be less annoying.

Because your hands were otherwise occupied, ofc

The UI reflects how meaty they are...

I really missed a Meta key on my clack clack clack (no, CapsLock is doing Compose duty already) so a daskeyboard with all the extra keys and none of the microsoftey eyesores on them is fine.
-
-
@Luhmann I'm sure Sugarhill would like that, but Meta key has existed on ancient Unix workstations long before it reincarnated on PC keyboards as the Windows key (IIRC it existed in the same place where Win now does on e.g. Sun stations).
It's also included in the EMACS bacronym Escape-Meta-Alt-Control-Shift.
-
@Bulb And why a lot of Emacs keyboard shortcuts include M, which for most of its users means to press the Alt key.
