@izzion Most places don't actually have an HOA, so people who do these sorts of things could probably easily find somewhere where HOA rules wouldn't be an issue.

This fellow from Germany is remodeling and rebuilding his several hundred year old home and documenting some of the steps along the way. Pretty cool stuff.
-
@Polygeekery Those things are quite common in Amsterdam IIRC, largely because the tax on properties in that city are based on the width of the property, so everyone builds very narrow buildings with a million billion trillion floors. And would you want to carry furniture and stuff up all those stairs? Thought not

that did not end how i expected it to.
where's the fire?

@accalia he should have bought a Samsung.

where's the fire?
Didn't hit the needed temperature for the hydrogen to ignite and/or no sparks.

but why?

@accalia Um, because? This battery pack is actually working as designed: Gassing out hydrogen without open flame.

If you watch the full video, he disassembles the battery pack and gets a little bit of fire then. But, it happens off camera.
His videos are pretty good. He is a funny fellow.

Also, high amperage LiPo batteries are composed of large numbers of individual plates in a zigzag configuration. When they short circuit and puff up like that, they go high resistance and basically shut themselves off. It is a manner of fail safe.

Damned, that guy was impressive.

This is...tragic, but I'll bet you can help but laugh if you watch it.

AvE amuses me. I watch an old video of his, and it is as usual full of interesting stuff. Then he ends with, "Always remember: It is not the shock that kills you. It is the 12 foot fall off the ladder through a tempered glass window that kills you".
He amuses me.

It is not possible to watch this video without cringing and engaging your safety squints.

@Polygeekery TIL: Explosive disconnectors: They're really loud and they disconnect.

I find this channel to have really interesting content.

@Polygeekery I sometimes wonder how much of these weird and humougously dangerous chemicals are used for real, compared to how much they're discussed in fun videos/blog posts etc. such as this one...
-
@remi at the end of the video he tells what it is still used for. You know a chemical is rough when one of it's primary uses is to clean the inside of nuclear reactors.
-
@Polygeekery Oh, so if something bad happens, not only do you have an extremely dangerous chemical around, but it will likely be mixed with radioactive material. Very nice... x-D

it's also used in the semiconductor industry to and Hank Greene said: "To clean their equipment to within an inch of its life!"

@accalia Essentially the molecular equivalent of a pad of steel wool, then? :P

well..... does steel wool explode into unquenchable fire upon contact with...... pretty much anything?
-
@accalia Not "pretty much anything," but have you ever touched both terminals of a 9V battery to a pad of steel wool?

And would water make it explode like a large bomb?
