There are sounds?
I think so. I've seen options in the Settings with 'sounds' in the label.

Sounds like it.
-
There are sounds?
Since my headphones are plugged in and laying on the desk, no.
-
@Onyx
so, that reminds me of my teenage years for some reason...

This video of the "recommended setup procedure", as seen on https://developer.android.com/studio/install.html
Wasn't that enlightening?

You know how computer games typically have a main menu where the default choice is either "start new game" or "resume last game", so that if you press Enter the game starts?
I have a game where it presumably remembers your last choice. Ie, "Quit".
I have a program that asks me "do you really want to quit" when I close it. But it doesn't matter if I chose "Yes" or "No", the program exits anway.
"Do you really want to quit?"
- "Um, no"
"Okay then, bye!"
- "Um, no"
-
@Zecc The recommended way to install something is to run the installer? Whodathunkit!
-
@RaceProUK And your install speeds might differ.

Docker is a total hack! It is a wacky hack that only fat lousy sysadmins find sexy enough to fap to all its holes! Why people just do not migrate to
rkt
and leave Docker alone? Is it that fun to run hacky bash scripts as root?rkt
looks like an engineered solution that people actually sat together and designed a product. Want to run it in a Systemd Unit file, great rkt works naturally! Want to run it as a normal non-root user, sure! Clean CLI interface instead of all-i -a -t --rm
fuckery of Docker?
-
-
Want to run it as a normal non-root user, sure!
You can do that with Docker by default. It even tells you how to do it as part of the installer.
Clean CLI interface instead of all -i -a -t --rm fuckery of Docker?
How do you make
--rm
cleaner? Remove a hyphen? I don't follow.
-
Clean CLI interface instead of all -i -a -t --rm fuckery of Docker?
Docker:
docker run --name website nginx
rkt (recommended syntax from the "getting started" guide):
rkt --insecure-options=image run docker://nginx --name=website
I can see how that's much cleaner.
As for the
-t
option to enable complex interactive terminals, here's rkt's required syntax for that:--stdin=tty --stdout=tty --stderr=tty
It's so much cleaner than just
-t
!
-
rkt looks like an engineered solution
It sounds like it has a real arkayteecture behind it.

rkt
It probably has a cutesy pronunciation too, doesn't it?
Probably pronounced like "wreck it" or something. Pure coincidence of course!

Racket, as in any of these:
- a loud disturbing noise;
- an object you use to hit stuff;
- illegal moneymaking activity.
GitHub README says "rock-it". Bah. :Ρ

I know it's already been posted, but I think this article writer in particular speaks for all of us when he says
Microsoft, just cut this crap out.
-
The new tips notifications within the File Explorer in Windows 10 were designed to help Windows 10 customers by providing quick, easy information to enhance the experience relative to storage and cloud file management.
I hate this. It's an ad, don't call it "useful customer tip".
I get that Microsoft wants to make money but they're really pushing things too far now. Ads in start menu, random notification ads, ads when you open Chrome, ads in Solitaire, data collection up the ass, can't disable online search in the start menu, tying Start menu + Cortana + Edge + Bing together...

How can people suffer all this crap and still use Windows 10 ?
That's not an operating system, that's an advertisement system.

Some of us started using it before all this crap came in.

You didn't see the writing on the wall ?
MS: if you are not paying for the product, you are the product.

A) I use Onedrive anyway, so it doesn't show me adverts for it
b) I used Windows 10 before it started
C) It's the only option if you want/need to use the current version of Windows

@TimeBandit said in WTF Bites:

I paid for it (both directly and indirectly) and I'm still the product.
-
@TimeBandit Because despite all that crap it's still the best desktop OS available.
Make a better one and I'll buy it from you.
No, Ubuntu is not a better one.

Windows 7 is still the best Windows I've seen.
No, Ubuntu is not a better one.
We can at least agree on that.

Is there a free windows 10?
-
@fbmac No, but that just means MS wants to double-dip.
-
Is there a free windows 10?
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade
Not sure if you can still
abusetake advantage of it
-
@TimeBandit my note uses to have a windows 7 before I put Ubuntu on it. Now I don't know how to install it if I decide to be an idiot and take a look at win 10
-

You don't need to install it, you can find ads all over the internet
-
I was checking out this local ISP's website and... why the hell does their favicon look like a red hand grenade?
"Our prices are da BOMB"?
-
@blek
Well, to be more truth in advertising... "our service will impact you like a hand grenade"
-
Because the unary ++ and -- operators are subject to automatic semicolon insertion, differences in whitespace can change semantics of source code.
That's why you enable the lints about missing semicolons, you dolt!
wait, is that a real thing? are those unreliable?

Yeah every one knows 1TB is 1024GB not 1000GB. Maybe OneDrive's TB is less.

!It is all good unless you hit one of these 2200 open issues. I stumbled upon a few recently not including those that ended with
as designed
closed.systemd integration of docker specially sucks! The final enchantment to start my binary as docker service that worked for me was
-i -a stdout -a stderr
plus adding a.socket
to pipestdin
because my application does non-blocking read on stdin. You see there is also-a
and the relation between-i
and-a
or automatic assumptions are just arbitrary.
Another fucker: There isCMD
that goes throughENTRYPOINT
but sinceENTRYPOINT
is by default/bin/sh
things work! Why? Now add to the fact the extra docker process that attaches itself everywhere! Withrkt
you do not need a weirdo daemon trying to be everything, you can easily call even/usr/sbin/init
and chain the new systemd's PID 1 to the old one, no need to figure out if the process died or just the docker daemon possessing the poor soul.
In Docker you may run your containers with restart option and think--restart=always
is fine, until your sever is hard rebooted. Docker is the kitchen sink, they want to do everything an OS should do (they want to be both CoreOS and rkt and orchestration too!).

@loopback0 that depends on how big is each of those GB.
-
@fbmac Each GB is 1 GB.
-
@loopback0 Better than each GB being 1.024 GB…
-
@loopback0 and are they 1 * 10^9 bytes or 1024 * 1024 * 1024 bytes?
Or maybe 1000 * 1000 * 1024 bytes or any other weird Microsoft GB

Is my OS so out of date I need 10 tabs telling me?
-
Obviously, with the number of tabs, Spotify is telling you that it will refuse to run on any OS with a version number lower than 10.

Skype can output audio to my wired headphones but not to my wireless headphones. Both desktop Skype and UWP Skype.
Also my Windows tablet fails to read the microphone in these hadphones, but every other computer can do it right.
In conclusion, what a mess.
