Lets try a new mega-thread.
You have a tiny WTF that doesn't deserve its own thread. It doesn't fit into the Status thread, because it is unreleted to you. It's not exactly a funny or bad idea. It's not a quick link.
Well, drop it here. If there's something to talk about after all, mods can fork.

@cartman82 I think that google trend can be better explained by
- There was no product called 'Docker'
- There was a product called 'Docker' and it's had some mentions by big names including google/microsoft in terms of support.

@theBread I can't decide whether to upvote or downvote to express my revulsion.
-
@pydsigner I assumed we were talking about food that made you go
-
@theBread Well it's doubly apropos and punny, but I can't bring myself to upvote a post with that inducer.
-
@theBread I'd try it.

'Cause watching the Error'd category on NodeBB does fuck-all in terms of generating notifications.
At least a thread I can watch.

You know how computer games typically have a main menu where the default choice is either "start new game" or "resume last game", so that if you press Enter the game starts?
I have a game where it presumably remembers your last choice. Ie, "Quit".
-
Mac and Cheetos.
Excuse me, where's the Mac? I only see Cheetos and Cheese.

Maybe the video was edited on one?

Dark Souls 2 requires you to press start and then wait for it to connect to the server and authenticate and show the MOTD before you can click the quit button.

While complaining about XML yesterday to a client who was trying to edit XML, I used a bunch of Zalgo.
-
Status: I just checked my work email to find that Zalgo one, and discovered a client sent me an email at 6:55PM yesterday asking for information on how to get a TCC so he can file his 1094-C.
The filing deadline is this coming Thursday, the 30th. The first step of the process takes at least a week--I've been told the whole process takes 3--and that was a few months ago. I told him in March to register. There's no way they're going to make it.

Dear valued customer [... yadda yadda]
Our contract for the supply of 24th June is active since electricity.
This is why using numerical indices on formatting strings is a bad idea.

Status: I receive an email this morning, "hello, the deadline for 1094C filing is today. Is the feature ready in [my application]?"
Oh, buddy. Oh no. I hate to be the one to tell you you done fucked up, because even if you manage to get your test file uploaded today and call the IRS and get through to them in spite of multi-hour hold times, you've still got the two-day wait before you can upload your production data.
So I didn't bother telling him that--I'll let the IRS do it. Then, if he doesn't get through to them today, well, it's on him.

I see the guy who came up with windows 10 onboarding messages and forced upgrade program still works at Microsoft.
Still trying to ruin the company from the inside.

From the gym that brought you signs for women in the men's room, the pool area now features many signs reading:
"If your child can't swim 15 meters, be a leader! Stay within 3 feet."
Which:
- doesn't actually rhyme
- AAB "give up" rhyme scheme even if it did
- mixes metric and imperial units
- aside from the forced not-quite rhyme, doesn't have much to do with leadership
C+ You Tried
-
@error If my kid couldn't swim 15 meters, being within 3 feet of me would be of no help at all.
I can't swim. Fuck, I can't even float. Which for a man with as much fat as I have is A SERIOUS GODDAMNED FEAT.

I can't float. I'm not convinced Fat is the only factor...

Not a reason to choose a technology, but certainly to consider it among other choices.
Unless you do not mind setting up your infrastructure based on an unpopular technology that soon would vanish.

Awe! Whenever I visit that profile I can't see anything but this weird error page saying I have a problem?!

I didn't clip any text. Also, it used to work fine before.

And I thought the on-top-of-everything notice was annoying (this was a Win8 laptop that I don't normally use, so I hadn't seen it before).
-
@cartman82 supposedly people will only get that last one one time.

Customers qa reported a bug, the attachment is a word document with images. Seems normal?
One of them is a two-monitor screenshot of word document containing screenshot of our application and paint, with another screenshot of our application. Why???
-
@Fergun
A screen shot in a screenshot ? At least they didn't print it out on in black and white and took a picture of it on a wooden table.

Pro Tip: floating must be done face-up. Otherwise it's called drowning.

If you want to float face down, you need to either hold your breath or have a snorkel or other suitable breathing-assistance device.
-

One final fuck you to the customers?
I would't count on it.
A few months down the line, the same people in charge of user acquisition will still be looking at the W7 user stats and thinking "how can we get those?" Expect to see "free upgrade during the new year", campaign, "congratualtions, you won a free upgrade!" campaign, "upgrade thursdays!" campaign, "oh god will you please upgrade already?" campaign...

You'd think so but I had to investigate because the customer we'd delivered this fine code to had the temerity of adding links that included the
http://
prefix. Fucking customers always breaking our code.BTW: welcome our new client,

I dunno, I never get those updates, because I don't stick to a 9-year-old OS.

Maybe a worm that uses a zero-day exploit to upgrade you?
-
@FrostCat instead you stick to a 1-year-old POS? :D
-
user: The data I requested you update is still a problem and it is really important that it be fixed ASAP.
me: I ran it in TEST and emailed you 2 weeks ago for approval and cannot move it until you/your boss approves it.
-
1-year-old POS?
I prefer Windows 10. I can't help the rest of you Paleo-Luddites.
-
@FrostCat GA Oct 22 2009. Only 7 years.
-
Only 7 years.
By the time the Luddites are off it, it'll've been 9 years. Or 17.
-
@FrostCat Basically. As far as I can tell, nobody at WtfCorp has even thought of upgrading any time before end of extended support.
