Noticed... what? What are we seeing, for the AIs among us, of course....
Spelling. Equiliblium. A very "stereotypically japanese" spelling of Equilibrium.

call its destructorOoh, in the destructor set the this pointer to a new jesuscorpse, and that has some sort of timer that once it runs out will destruct and set this pointer to a new Jesus.

@Carnage I'll let you figure out all the blasphemic implementation details

@Applied-Mediocrity Can't quite find the passage anymore but it went roughly like this in one of Pratchett's books:
Now, famous philosopher Alec van Quirm stated that atheism is actually not the optimal decision. It would be much better to believe in every religion at once*) - so that if you died you'd surely find yourself in the best position depending on whatever religion turned out to be true. And if none of them were right and there really was nothing: What exactly did you lose?
*) When van Quirm awakened after his death he found himself surrounded by several ominously looming figures wielding huge clubs. One of them boomed: "And now we'll show you what we think of smart alecs like you up here."

A nice twist (as usual with Pratchett) on Pascal's wager.

Well, Pascal was an intelligent man, so he must've realized his wager is pretty dumb.

I suspect he was looking for justifications for what he wanted to do anyway.

Imagine reading this
${a few}
years ago. "What do you mean, sign in into a spreadsheet? Is there a macro that asks the password? "I still feel the same about it. O365 is the dumbest shit ever.
Good news, everyone:
I now need to sign in to Office using 2FA!I literally had to register at office.com and sync the authenticator app on my phone so that I can start Word on my workstation.
Why? Fuck knows why.

I like it not. It squints toward monarchy.

Well apparently it's now legal to pirate stuff in Russia so maybe they don't even need legitness anymore?

I now need to sign in to Office using 2FA!
Sadly, I can potentially one-up this.
We have domain accounts with a client, as our relationship is pretty tightly integrated so our accounts are also part of their Office365 install, mainly to use Microsoft Teams for meetings. Just recently, we had to set up for 2FA for logging in to Teams, which had to go through Microsoft's Authenticator.
Well, right before that, this client also started implementing 2FA for Remote Desktop logins to their test and production servers. This does not use the Microsoft Authenticator, but Duo Mobile.
With a few quick searches, it looks like O365 can use Duo Mobile for 2FA, and RDC can use Microsoft Authenticator, but for whatever reason, they didn't do that, so I've had to install two separate authenticator apps to my personal phone to get into stuff for this client.
-
@ChaosTheEternal said in WTF Bites:
other authenticators could work
Yes! Because I didn't want to get locked out because of a single point of failure that seems to crop up often (that being the phone), there was an alternate way to get the OTP token generator key (maybe through QR code?) that I added to my regular keychain.
It's not as nifty as a "we sent a notification to your phone!" but it's just as effective and I don't need to worry about losing it or getting locked out of it if I can't enter in my Work Pin thing like some people....
-

Yea, Polish "monarchy". Which called itself Rzeczpospolita, which is literally Polish for Res publica. And the king was elected since 1573.

Since 1386. It just so happened they elected the same dynasty for 200 years until they ran out of descendants.
But yes, all of these palaces were non-royalty.

@hungrier My X1 is different. The similar one is a P15.
Which X1 do you have? I took delivery of a X1 Titanium last week and I just don't like it and I don't know why. I think that the display looks too "4:3" and it reminds me of old Pentium M laptops from back in the day.

Could you elaborate what's the issue?
-
@Arantor yeah. Nearly a decade ago I first learned what such a thing was. I put this knowledge in the classification of "Shit I wish I didn't know".
But the amount of stuff peddled in the SMB space that is a thin facade plastered over something open source and then has an exorbitant price tag slapped on it really is astonishing. I run into it all the time.
-
Could you elaborate what's the issue?
Orthanc is open source, they slapped some window dressing on it and are charging a few grand a month for it. Which isn't illegal or anything like that, but it always seems shitty.
Also, FFS, at least rename the goddamn service.
-
@Polygeekery google told me that. But it seems there's also a commerical (including support?) version available, so it didn't seem too far fetched.
I assume what you mean is that someone else just took that and is selling it with exorbitant markup?
-
