@Kian If the password is that long, the server should probably just reject the
POST
completely.
-
Also, some people think that a maximum size of 8 (every bank ever) is sufficient.
Yeah, but you don't know until they decide 10 is okay now. And continue to silently truncate.
-
@Kian Oooooor ... you could just implement a rate limiter. Which you should do anyway to prevent bruteforcing.
-
Power BI is amazing.
So, there's literally no way you could have two data sources in the "workbook" without switching both to "Import Mode"?
I know it's different from the one before, I want to create another connection.
What the fuck is wrong with you??!
-

Certainly, there are many ways around any particular problem. I guess if you are counting on the secrecy of your hash to provide security, hashing client side exposes that bit of information. I don't really see any other downsides though, so maybe I'm missing something obvious? Security is not my area of expertise.

Except that once it's been homeopathically diluted, you're lucky if it has enough of the active ingredient in it to produce any such real effects at all.
If it had, it wouldn't be a homeopathic dilution.
That's a common misconception, only true for the "high potencies" of about 11C onwards. Dilutions from "3X" on are common, meaning the stuff has been diluted to a tenth three times. A 3X preparation of LSD, botulinum toxin or even mercury would be quite potent indeed. Of course that doesn't make it any less quackery when considering what kind of "medicines" they actually prescribe and how they are selected.

Lets not forget the very important part of flogging the "medicine" with a leather implement to make it active.

That's just logical. It works on the kids after all.

perhaps state the premises in isolation in a new thread, so that people can examine by themselves. Leave out your conclusions
But his conclusions are the same as his premises. This whole argument is a convoluted mess designed to hide the fact that it's nothing more than a big question beg

I know! It's like a death ray for excel reporting!
So, there's literally no way you could have two data sources in the "workbook" without switching both to "Import Mode"?
Import Mode is quite different from DirectQuery. The first (default) literally imports data into PowerBI and you run your visualizations on the imported data set that is then periodically updated. DirectQuery Queries the data sources on the fly (gasp! I know! Feature names that make sence!). Both modes are fairly different in the back. Not all features and data sources are supported in DirectQuery. You shouldn't be using DirectQuery unless there really is a speed or accuracy requirement that can't be med through the default mode. DirectQuery has and will be improved further to make the difference smaller. Maybe the limitation of not mixing both modes in one report will be gone some day. I think you also need at least a pro license for DirectQuery. Who cares ... PowerBI licensing is a turd. You essentially need a Pro license to do anything usefully.
-
Not all features and data sources are supported in DirectQuery.
I don't know... When it switched over it basically forgot all the relationships between the tables and all the reports effectively lost all capability to filter.
All I know is that Import mode fucked everything and I'm glad I didn't save the workspace when it did that.

For obvious reasons, Polish banks have extended this limit to 20 characters.

Why is it that during

I couldn't split a hunk with two changed lines in two?Editing was no big deal, but it was a bit annoying.
INB4 "git is a bit annoying" FTFY.

I suspect that German banks use a limit of 80 characters per word…

Farnell/Element 14 has a new 'Upload BOM' feature. I was excited to give it a go with a big one. It doesn't work, it just spins forever.
As I was getting fed up with trying to make it work, a little box popped up asking if I could help them with some feedback, absolutely I could! Except...

Banks use 5 character passwords. You read that right.

Do they expect you to use your last name as a password?

We didn't get any negative feedback, success

Last names aren't the only long things we have.
-
I don't know how Adobe fucked this up, but they did.
-
@Cursorkeys: the same Farnell/Element 14 that has "export to CSV" and "import from CSV" features, but the output of the first can't be parsed by the second?
(maybe they fixed this, that was several months ago)

(maybe they fixed this, that was several months ago)That's some skill there. I've actually got the BOM tool working now after uploading an Excel file instead of a CSV. It's not working very well but it is working.
Edit: The MLCC stock status is crazy, I knew lead-times went up, but half these lines are out of stock and the rest have the prices jacked up. Bloody mobile phones sucking up all the production.

@Cursorkeys: yes, the current situation is crazy. I visited a manufacturing plant earlier this week ; the guy told me straight out "at this point, you have to prostitute yourself to get 100 nF capacitors".
(for those who aren't into electronics: that's something that's usually very cheap, plentiful and used everywhere. The mechanical equivalent would be something like a standard screw.)

I now need to ring their renewals department and ask one of their customer service agents to amend it on the renewal for free but it must stay wrong on my current policy.
Three attempts to call that resulted in being stuck in a queue for 15 minutes before hanging up, I let it renew and filled in a new online form!
4 - The email says the new premium includes a £25 charge for making a change, but the PDF says they haven't charged me the £25 charge.
5 - The PDF states the reason for the change initially as "Address Correction" but later, correctly, as "Change of Occupation".
5b - The email also mentions a renewal quote at a new address, despite the address having not changed.
6: Updating my job title from Technical Analyst to Technical Manager and reducing the annual mileage apparently warrants a 30% premium increase.I hate insurance companies. Now I'm going to have to ring them again and check they haven't updated other things and try to find out why it's such a large increase for no apparent reason.

More annoyingly it's not even an actual job change - all that changed was the job title as the result of silly bureaucracy, but as insurance companies are picky fuckers I thought it best update it.
Obviously I'm not expecting them to care about that detail, but even if I had become an actual manager who drives this car less than last year, I don't understand how it's 30% more risky.

@Zecc I noticed that, but I'm not sure I'd really call it a WTF. It looks more like the buffer that the system used to render the window's fade-out animation was a couple of frames older than the window's actual contents were.

I can see the window getting replaced by a snapshot of it 1 second in the past, then disappear instantly.
Why the fuck replace the window with a snapshot instead of just removing the window?
