@lordofduct there was also a badge for this. It was surrounded by a lot of controversy at times ...
Yeah, just ask @RaceProU...oh, wait, nevermind.

My rule of thumb is that a sport requires a ball.
So I can go hunting with my sports canon?

Why is there no canon-emoji! This is disturbing!

...and so can she:
Also, if you go searching for anything with the words "sexy" in it, the internet will never cease to amaze you with the depravity that it contains.
It's now about lunchtime but I will unable to stand up for a little while.

What movie is that from?
-
@DogsB A foreign film. Says it is Czech in origin.

banned
what? Nobody forbids you from adding a clipart of a rifle to your post.
“[A] British gun control campaign group had criticised the proposal” is another way of saying “a British gun control campaign group would prevent others from using the symbol if they could.”
-
If it doesn't already exist, what useful purpose is served by adding it?
Because then when you go to prosecute the person harassing you, if they've included a rifle in their threat, they can't say they were just kidding.

Which of these threats is worse?
I'm going to kill you. With a gun.
I'm going to kill you. :rifle:
Maybe we should ban words because they could be used to threaten people.

Her sort of play with such things seems as if it might be painful.

I loved Cryptonomicon
That's one of the weirder ones really, since it's a sort of sequel to his baroque books.
The Diamond Age is my favorite of his books, except Anathem, which is maybe better. But Snow Crash is the one everyone knows.

He was on the ball about crypto-currency, at least that it would become a thing (that subsequently no one would take seriously).
And similarly, Gibson predicted the kind of technocratic dystopia that could arise from data aggregation.
Edit: I also respect that Stephenson brought in Shneier as a consultant so he could actually be fairly accurate in his technical/security material.

You can try but you'd have more luck with a cannon. (No emoji for that, either, sadly. Probably a good thing--someone seeing an emoji of a cannon might get triggered and go shoot up a mall.)

What did I fall for? Being pedantic, in a conversation where I was ALREADY pedantic. That's like if I walked into a room wearing black, then you saying "everyone, wear black" ... "haha, made you wear black!"
But that's not really the joke. That's the rouse.
The joke was that you retroactively claim that your misuse of the definition of "rule of thumb" was to be ironic. And that your reasserting of said definition was only to further that joke. Thus allowing me to fall into your rouse.
Yeah... stupid fucking joke.
-
@lordofduct said in Emojis - They are coming to get you. Or PC gone mad:

That's just @frostcat logic. He makes dumb jokes and laughs at people for "not getting it" when they don't consider the joke to be funny.
Ask @accalia for further information.
-
Personally I'm more into anecdotal humour, as well as dark humour.
For example.
There was a 2 year spell in my family in which several family members died: my grandpa, uncle, little brother, and parents. The same month my parents died in a car accident, my sister happened to get engaged to her boyfriend. A year later they got married, and not even a week after, her new husband's father died in a car accident. They came by my house to borrow some tools to pry open said car to get important documents out of the trunk. I hadn't seen them since the wedding and I opened the door and greeted them:
"Hey, welcome to the family, how are you enjoying the curse?"
...
Now that's a stupid fucking joke.

I did--in what I thought was good humor, at first--for a while. Eventually they convinced me it was actually bothering them, and--get this--I stopped. Unlike, say, @blakeyrat, who spent another year or so going out of his way to antagonize RacePro in threads she wasn't even participating in. So you could, you know, ask @accalia for a judgment on whether I was the most troublesome person to her or not on these forums, and I'll even bow to her answer. Or you could just call me the big bad person of this forum. Hey, maybe I can steal "the worst of the worst" from @mikeTheLiar!

Whàaaaaaa! I've had nothing but wonderful interactions with @FrostCat . I also stand by my claim he's one of the funnier people on the forum.

Muh? Other than my ongoing "feud" with @blakeyrat, I make an effort to follow tit for tat. I will admit--I believe I did then--I took longer to stop with the whoosh thing than I should've; I don't see why an imaginary badge--that I myself had two of--bothered @accalia so much, but I did, in fact, eventually stop mentioning it. Other people kept on doing it for quite some time, but yeah, I'm apparently the real meanie of TDWTF.
-
@FrostCat said in Emojis - They are coming to get you. Or PC gone mad:

I just meant to say that you were involved with whoosh badges.
-
@aliceif said in Emojis - They are coming to get you. Or PC gone mad:

Well, yes. I even "earned" a pair of them myself. Aside from a bit of annoyance at one that was unearned, I didn't mind them, though. I thought they were pretty funny, myself.
All sorts of people were involved with the whoosh badges in various capacities. I like to think I wasn't the worst offender at offending RPU and Accalia, although they might not have seen it that way.
-
@Polygeekery I like Macháček, he's a good actor. Not as good as Ivan Trojan, though.
Paging @blek?
-
@FrostCat I never said anything about it back in the day, because someone would have latched on to it and made sure I got one, but I may have been the only regular posted, and only person to hold the spoon, that never got a whoosh badge...

okay to set the record straight, @frostcat was fscking annoying to deal with for a while, but he was far from the worst, and we sorted things out....

Fuck that guy and his dumbass face. Every movie he appears in gets described as "profoundly human" in reviews. On the other hand, him and his band recently got a bit tipsy at a concert and afterwards found a pub that was closed, and so they did what any sane man would do: broke in, helped themselves and ended up in the drunk tank completely shitfaced. I respect that.
And Bolek Polívka is king. (the guy in the gif)

That reminds me of the Simpsons joke, where the washed-up actor got a new role:
Agent: "You'll be starring in the Planet of the Apes musical as, get this-- THE HUMAN!"
Actor: "It's the role I was born to play!"

Or was it fanning them?

@blek Trojan or Machaček? I know them mainly from Zelenka's movies, although I've seen my share of Hrebejk. Zelenka's a great director.

@kt_ Macháček. Just look at that face:
