I see it most of the time on mobile, not so much on desktop. Repro: Go in to a topic, open notifications and select a notification that takes you to a different topic, hit the back button to return to prior topic.
There may be other ways to trigger it but that is when I have noticed it. This has been happening for a long time.
-
@polygeekery @julianlam @pie_flavor
IIRC, the title bug is a WTDWTF customization... I recall we had very similar problems with backwards navigation and title problems on desktop months ago, that were eventually attributed to a customization and not a "core" bug.
-
@izzion so basically it is @ben_lubar's fault? I can believe that. Hold on blakey, let me stoke those coals for you. :)
-
@polygeekery said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:
You OK with that apology?
It's equivalent to the one I wrote. Just phrased differently.
@polygeekery said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:
Your strawman version of it is just nonsense constructed to badger @julianlam.
Bad software makes me angry.
@polygeekery said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:
They have done pretty well considering how young their project is.
If only there were some way from learning from someone else's experience... sigh. We should invent some way of, I dunno, people being able to make marks on paper that dozens of other people could later look at and understand what the first person learned. We could call it "papermarkery".
That thread when people are in such a hurry to call Blakeyrat an idiot, they forget about the concept of "literacy".

No.

Everything makes you angry.

Yeah. In an ideal world. Some people learn most from their own mistakes. I am one of those people so I am sympathetic. This may have been a lesson he had to learn on his own and now he won't do it again.
But I am sorry. I forgot that you read and learned everything there was to know before you started writing software and have never once made a mistake so you have never had to own up to one.

You forgot about the concept of "Don't be a dick to people who are giving you something for free".

@pie_flavor said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:
Oh, and I just came across this gem. The title is supposed to be "Poe or Noe".
Just happened again, in the Lounge this time, and the magic background was gone too. But of course I can't capture the fuckin thing, because random sidebar navigation put me in my bookmarks page before I could get the posts out of the capture area!
Fuck this update and the horse it rode in on.

I don't know how to reproduce it, but it has something to do with switching pages with multiple tabs open possibly.
Edit:
Edit edit: No, it is:hanzo:
, not:hanzo.png:
. Stupid update.

Hmm...CTRL+B / I no longer work in the composer. @blubar, was that more stuff that you took away by uninstalling the plugin or is that a composer regression?

Yeah, that change bugs me too. It'd be nice if it was cross-platform as well (so COMMAND + ... on macs).
I've mainly been having the random chat slide-outs more than the nav menu ones, but I've had those as well. Android 7.X Chrome.

-
@pie_flavor You have way too many fucking notification icons, mate.
-
Once again, I'm left wondering if @pie_flavor is using a different site to me. I've been trying diagonal swipes, winding swipes, everything I can think of and the only way I can get the side menus to trigger is by moving halfway across the screen before any significant vertical movement.
Trying to post through the 15 pixels of visible button is still a nightmare though
-
@heterodox No, I have too many apps that generate them. The checkmark being the one that is most so, given that it is generated by Verizon, telling me how fucking awesome their app is and could I please please please pay attention to them.

Based on other things he's said, I think he's using a DiscoursePhone.

I'm probably using a different browser than you, though. Puffin decreases the site's obscene slowness a bit.
*checks on Chrome*
Nope, still there. Although, guess what, the sidebar is back on the left again. Fuck this update.

By that I assume you mean a phone with (a) functional scroll, (b) functional menus, and (c) a functional mobile browser. I absolutely am.

I meant none of that, actually. You're still welcome here, though, in case you were worried about that.

Still applicable, though, as they are definitely features that Discourse has which NodeBB does not.
-
@pie_flavor do you have parkinsons?
-
@pie_flavor I wonder how much of it is actually NodeBB's fault, and how much is actually the fault of our dicking around with things on this site specifically, though. Seems like things that happen here don't happen elsewhere.
-
@jaloopa No, but this stupid fucking sidebar makes me feel like I do.

Kill the notifications from that app.

No, he's autistic.
-
@tsaukpaetra I miss Lorne.

@pie_flavor I miss the Lorne we had before the psychotic break.
-
@polygeekery Eh, the psychotic break was fun.

Yeah, that worked well

I'm switching to laptop to explain, one sec.
The fact that you had to do that is telling. I read stories that are produced on phones, sometimes updated daily, and they don't complain that they have to switch to a bigger-screen device to make typing usable (they do complain about autocorrect though).
The main reason I'd rather type out substantial posts on a real computer is because I'd rather type them on a real keyboard. It really doesn't have much to do with the mobile interface.
Although the red boob on mobile really is irritating. Can't it be moved to the "Replying to..." title bar that only mobile has anyway? Make it and put it right next to .
-
@pie_flavor said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:

@julianlam has said that it's because the setting is stored in local storage but that they will be moving it to a proper user setting shortly.

Either that or just let it be dragged around the screen. It's terribly obtrusive on mobile and obscures what you're typing.

Or even some kind of slide away thing? There's tons of ways to make a minimize button workable here...

Don't we have enough slidey stuff on mobile already?

Gestures all the way baby! It's the way of the future!

@tsaukpaetra I have a gesture for NodeBB and you can do it with just one finger.

Apparently three years isn't enough to implement that.
Edit: Color me surprised, Chrome on Windows 10 actually renders this:
-
Love this sidebar. Works great.
Edit: Pushed the button, it did the standard flickering, and then came right back to the composer. Pushed it again, got led here again:

Ew chat heads. I can't believe that latest abomination from Facebook is actually gaining traction. People like it, eh?
That said, seems like the next logical step would be to just use the minimize icon in the top bar.
-
Add logging out to the list of random things the sidebar does when not asked to.

That's what I said.

It didn't use to do this. It used to just open the upvotes/downvotes record box.

-
@pie_flavor I can open the upvotes/downvotes box on my post. You probably just hit one of the vote buttons by mistake. It's hard AF to hit the number on mobile without hitting one or the other vote button instead.
