Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems
-
@blakeyrat Highlighting the background is problematic with all the different skins. But I also suggested using a border.
Filed Under: So.. yeah, I mostly agree with whatever blakeyrat just said

@ChaosTheEternal said:
@blakeyrat Ben did it to try and improve visibility of which post NodeBB dumped you to. He mentioned it here in the Status thread.
That's fine, but I'd rather have NodeBB consistently take me to the first unread post instead of sometimes one hour before, sometimes one hour after.

No, nodeBB's usability is shit.
Agreed.
Discourse was about as stable as a grenade with the pin pulled, but at least 90% of its UI was easy to figure out; with NodeBB, the stability is seemingly unbreakable, but the UX is in the sewers.
UX is easier to fix, at least.
RED BOOB NIPPLE TAPE!

RED BOOB NIPPLE
I've always wondered where people get interpretations like this.
I personally thought it was an oddly colored cored olive, or a ball tilted with a plus sign for orientation detection.
Are we all so depraved that "Red Boob Nipple" is the first thing that comes to mind when seeing it?
Filed under: At least it no longer stays on top of the composer?
-
@Tsaukpaetra I'm not and stop posting it in my thread. Post it in the thread where people are actually talking about it. There is one. You don't even need to hit the "new thread" button.
-
The rainbow nightmare is gone, but now there's no highlight at all. I didn't like rainbow nightmare, but I have to admit it was better than nothing at all.
-
@blakeyrat said:

Apart from the blue line that appears right under the post.
-
@RaceProUK Only if it happens to be the last post in the thread. That doesn't help me in the majority of cases.
-
@blakeyrat Bullshit; it happens no matter the post
-
@RaceProUK Well then I guess it's just broken.
Or, it just occurred to me, if it appears under the post, it's always way below the bottom of the window if you have browser zoom turned on, which I do. Which is the same thing as broken.

haha the software's shit, here's a smiley it's so funny and humorous when software is broken ass haahaha
-
@blakeyrat Hey, it's not my fault you're either blind or wilfully ignorant
-
@RaceProUK IT DOESN'T SHOW UP ON MY SCREEN so actually the problem has nothing to do with being blind, it has to do with there being nothing to see.
-
New issues: How do I mute/ignore a thread? I can't find it anywhere.
What is the "ask a question" option in thread tools supposed to do? It seems to just randomly scroll to a random post for no reason?
-
@blakeyrat Ah, so because you can't see it, it doesn't exist.
-
@RaceProUK Get out of my fucking thread. If you don't want my posts, do everybody a favor and don't, you piece of shit.
-
What does "make this a normal topic" do? As opposed to what other kind of topic?
-
... I seem to have done something to put the NPM topic on ignore, but damned if I know what. Huh.
-
@blakeyrat You deleted it.
-
@Yamikuronue Haha what? Why do I have permissions for that?
-
@blakeyrat said:

Well whatever you did, the topic disappeared
-
@cartman82 Well I don't have any way to undo it, because it disappeared for me too.
-
@blakeyrat Do you want it undeleted? I can do it I think.
-
@Yamikuronue Well YEAH! And remove the permissions for person X to delete person Y's content. Because that's fucking stupid.
I still want to figure out how to mute/ignore it though, although at this point I'm starting to think it's not even implemented.
-
Oh and BTW, if there's one thing shitty open source software has taught me, it's that a lot of idiot developers use the word "delete" when they mean "remove". I thought that option might remove it from my tracked topics or something. I didn't in a million years imagine I'd have permissions to delete a thread with other people's posts in it!
-
@blakeyrat said:
although at this point I'm starting to think it's not even implemented.
because it isn't.
it should be, and i expect one of us will file a issue asking for it to be implemented.
one of us might even issue a PR to implement it.
-
@blakeyrat said:

I believe that's the case
@blakeyrat said:

I'm only a mod, not an admin, so I don't think I have control over the permissions system. Or if I do, it's hidden away someplace I haven't seen yet.

I know, right? Stupid special snowflake users with their silly browser zoom demanding the software to cater to them. Now, about that <noscript> thing...
-
@accalia FUCK! SERIOUSLY?
You mean I have to get notifications from that asshole pack of howling coyotes FOREVER?
FUCK THIS FORUM.
Jesus CHRIST how did nobody mention this before now
-
@Yamikuronue Fuck everything if deleting it is the only way of ignoring it maybe I should have kept it deleted. Jesus. UNBELIEVABLE.
-
@blakeyrat said:
@cartman82 Well I don't have any way to undo it, because it disappeared for me too.
This was the user experience from my POV, btw.
Very intuitive.
BTW these appeared on every scroll event.
-
@blakeyrat The one thing I think you can do is, if at the bottom of the thread you have a button labelled "Unwatch", click that. It won't stop notifications for people mentioning you like Discourse did, but you won't get one when they don't mention you.
-
@Yamikuronue The two modes are "watch" and "watch really closely". Neither of those is even remotely close to what I want.
Fuck.
This NEVER CAME UP when people were testing this forum? Unbelievable.
-
@cartman82 said:

I posted I think twice after the thread was deleted because all I got was a faint orange flicker at the top of my screen. Someone mentioned in slack that it was gone, so I scrolled to the top of the thread and there was an orange "you only see this because you're a mod, it's deleted" banner (wording not exact).
-
Oh good, yet another notification from lucas telling me what a stupid dumbfuck I am and I have no way of stopping it.
There is literally zero reason for me to ever start a topic now. Great.
-
@blakeyrat said:

until you stop visiting, or stop caring, or someone implements it... yes.
@blakeyrat said:

there was the open beta of the forum, you could have signed up and participated to vet things out. those of us who did found several bugs that we would have went live with otherwise.
now that you're here you can choose to be productive and file the apropriate bug reports and/or fix the bugs and issue pull requests to get them integrated for everyone else
i suppose complaining is also an option, but i doubt it will change much of anything if all you do is complain.
-
@blakeyrat said:

Along those lines: when I get a flag, I can "Dismiss" or "Delete". I suspect the former means "Dismiss the flag" and the latter means "Delete the post", but if you're going to just use bare verbs, they should have the same fucking subject. Maybe it's "Delete the flag", I don't know. I'm not going to click it. Neither verb sounds like it means "I agree, that's offensive" or "That's totally spam, send it to Akismet" or anything useful there.

@blakeyrat said:

It did, in fact. If you got involved in that process you might have noticed.
-
@boomzilla As I've said a hundred times, last time we were selecting a forum, ALL MY INPUT WAS IGNORED.
I'm sorry that the admins of this forum trained me to think my input would be worthless, but the fact is: they did. Sorry? But hardly my fault.
-
-
@blakeyrat So what? Now you ignored everyone else's input. No one gives a shit about your butthurt.
-
Well go ahead just pile-on. It's 5:33 AM and already the worst day of my life. Make sure there's absolutely no doubt how stupid I am. Keep posting.
-
@blakeyrat said:
Make sure there's absolutely no doubt how stupid I am.
Everything isn't about you, asshat.
-
@boomzilla Really?
So let me get this clear. I post a well-argued post about NPM being buggy. But the response isn't, "npm isn't buggy, here's why..." the response is, "you are stupid, here's why..." Plenty of people had the opportunity to talk about a software tool without making it about me. Nobody (with one exception) did. Instead, they talked about me. Well, I say "talked about", really they just insulted me.
Similarly, you had a chance to say something about NodeBB's lack of a mute/ignore feature without talking about me. You did not. Instead you said I was a dumb idiot for making the perfectly rational decision to not participate in something I had absolutely no evidence would be a worthwhile use of my time.
So evidence shows that it is, indeed, about me. It doesn't matter what I'm talking about, or where I'm posting, there's only one absolute on this forum: Blakeyrat is a stupid moron idiot.
Now that said, I wish it wasn't all about me. I wish we could occasionally talk about other things. That would be nice for a change.
-
Holy shit. I don't like the screen-spanning paragraphs on this forum, so I turned on browser zoom on my laptop as well. (Chrome, 1080p, maximized, OS set to 150% DP). This is HILARIOUSLY broken. Jesus. You thought browser zoom was broken on a desktop, you ain't seen nothing yet.
-
@blakeyrat said:
Really?
Yes.
@blakeyrat said:

It's been talked about before. Without anyone talking to you.
@blakeyrat said:

You are a dumb idiot for ignoring the process that a bunch of people went through to test this stuff, find the best alternative to discourse and also try to improve it along the way. Then you go out of your way to insult the people who did that stuff because you ignored the process and couldn't be bothered to even know what they found.
@blakeyrat said:

Only because you're the kind of asshole who has to make everything a personal affront and then curse out the world for being so awful compared to your greatness.
-
@boomzilla said:

If "how did this not come up" (or whatever I said exactly) is an insult, well, then all bets are off. White is black. Up is down. Left is right. It's bizarro wacky-land!
I can't even figure out what's going on in this editor. It's like it removes the post content like it would for mobile device mode, but it's also doesn't remove the header and uses the split-view for editing the post. I can't even comprehend how this went so wrong.
Ok screenshot works, look at the scrollbar on the browser window. It's short because there's no post content-- it's all hidden. But I'm also not seeing the mobile editor or header. I'm in some weird zombie-mode.
-
@boomzilla said:

My GREATNESS? Are you fucking kidding me? The only thing that stops me from suicide most weeks is nobody would feed my cat.
-
You make it about other users all the time. Are you really surprised when people respond in kind? When you are an asshole to other people, they are much more likely to be an asshole to you.
