How is it possible someone in the lounge could be an asshole?
-
He is standing by his principles - that's worth some respect.
That is. But then when he pretends he can't get into the lounge, like he's being deliberately barred by someone else--he loses that respect.
-
That's great, but BACK IN THE 90s IT WAS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO OWN A DOMAIN NAME WITHOUT MAKING YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS PUBLIC.
I dunno about 1998 but by 2001 it was certainly possible to put fake information there, and lots of people did it. You should have, too.
Because I know you pretend to be dense, I'll add "but that doesn't justify people making that info public", because it doesn't, and you know I have already said that.
-

I don't think he ever suggested that he can't get in, but that he chooses not to. I choose not to go into an expensive perfumer, but I'd never claim that I can't get in.
His point was (with apologies for second guessing the rat) that a) he was dox'd in a very not-funny way, and that b) he wouldn't even have known if he hadn't been told.So it's a tad disingenuous to be turning blakeyrat into the microagressor in this context.
-
It's still "technically" impossible
No, it's not allowed. That's not the same thing at all.
And you admit that the rules aren't really enforced.
-
I don't think he ever suggested that he can't get in, but that he chooses not to.
He will not make that distinction unless you force him to. Instead, he throws a pity party and pretends he's been refused entry.
-
Come onnnnnnnnnn.... really? And you're going to ignore the whole google map / house / dox thing?
That's fucked.
-
The TL3 thing has a history with him. It's not just about that.
-
Come onnnnnnnnnn.... really? And you're going to ignore the whole google map / house / dox thing?
No. I've already mentioned, more than once, that it was wrong. I'm pretty sure I did the last time someone did it, too.
In the post to which you replied, I was only talking about his attitude about TL3 in general, which is to pretend he can't get in there, until someone says "yes, but that's because you choose not to," at which point he rants about gamification or the rules changing out from under him, which is also a legitimate complaint.
-
The rules are kinda fucked though. Not only do you have to indulge the gamification bullshit to get in, you have to keep indulging it if you want to stay in. Fulfilling arbitrary criteria continuously, where some of the rules exist in a way that is not merely stupid but potentially community damaging... Yeah, I could see that as a "can't" angle, actually.
-
rules changing out from under him
To be fair, we were on a pre-1.0 state and the DiscoDevs seemed to make it pretty clear that trust level changes were in the works. Granted the question of why we were using a product in such a state begs to be asked, but nobody should be surprised that it happened...
-
You've said in the past, I believe, that you weren't terribly concerned with concealing your identity, but didn't want any TDWTF account linked with your real name.
He has the most unique purchasing pattern on Steam.
Google probably already knows who he is.
-
Ok, I know you like being accurate, so I'd like to point out that that is inaccurate. As I understand it, if there is a deliberate protest, it is against the act of giving likes, which predates discourse. When the retroactive change was made, Blakey's low rate of likes was pointed out, and he stated that he wouldn't change his behavior just to get into the lounge. To prove his point, he also went back and tried to undo any likes he had accidentally given out while scrolling around on mobile, which all the illiterate dumbs on this forum interpreted to mean the thing you posted, even though it is materially different than the truth.
-
Agreed. And posting a photo of their house is just fucking creepy.
I apparently wasn't in that thread for ages... there were photos of a house?
Not that I posted anything to that effect, but I apologize to @blakeyrat for thinking he's just stirring up drama for no reason, I thought it was something very minor. But this? This is fucked up and wrong.
-
-
@blakeyrat changed his avatar, so that image no longer makes sense.
Blakey, you may want to update your long name.
-
there were photos of a house?
Screenshot of Google street view of a house that was purported to be his. I assume the house is located at the address associated with his domain registration, which may or may not be his current residence.
-
I don't do a single thing to try to maintain my TL3 status. Now if you hate everyone else on a forum, so you don't want to like posts, yeah, I can see that effectively keeping you out. But actually clicking that button every once in a while because you actually thought something was funny is pretty natural, so...
-
he can pick 15 arbitrary posts for back in the CS days if he wants to
Erm - actually...
Granted the question of why we were using a product in such a state begs to be asked,
Because it was market-ready.
At least until we got our hands on it...
(the 24 hrs mentioned relates to how long we'd been using Discourse.)
-

Thank you, Captain Hindsight.

That is a thing that happened here? Fuck that noise.

I don't want anybody banned, but it would be nice if:
-
Someone (in an official capacity) had informed me of it
-
The person who has betrayed everybody's trust has their "trust level" removed
I think that would be fair.
This seems like a fair solution to me too.
I'm for the hellban (they stay a member, they can post anywhere they like, but none of their content ever gets served to anybody else).

Excellent plan, with only two minor setbacks:
- we don't have an option to hellban anyone
- this is Discourse, even if we had it would be broken
-

good point well made

Though I did fuck up the phrasing a bit. For shame!

The best ones are subtle like the ocean/military gray one a few days ago.
-
What is this "Red Dwarf"?
*googles
Oh shit, there goes my weekend.
Thanks guys!
-
this is Discourse, even if we had it would be broken
I believe that would mean everyone would see the posts except the author?

The body is too similar to what you already posted.
-
Is that the "laser cannons" one or the "robbie rocket-pants" one?
I love how Cat doesn't say "Birdman the hell out of here!". I mean Birdman is the world's lamest third-string superhero. But not lame enough for Cat. He actually says, "Let's JUNIOR Birdman the hell out of here!" He picked the lame sidekick of the world's lamest superhero. Love that line.

That, plus 504 OK, plus "you are not allowed to access the requested resource", plus nuisance toast, plus any number of other incomprehensible errors, plus...
-
Is that the "laser cannons" one or the "robbie rocket-pants" one?
Yes. It's a compilation of 4 or 5 clips.

Depending on the phase of the moon, it would either hide the post or popup a toaster for everyone in real-time.
-
now I want to watch it but it isnt available here :(

I'm for the hellban (they stay a member, they can post anywhere they like, but none of their content ever gets served to anybody else).
So, Discourse as normal, but a couple percentage points less reliable.

Discourse is still in a pre-1.0 state.
But it says it's 1.5!
The most likely explanation is that they pulled a java and turned 0.1.5 into 1.5.

It's a lot better than having a bunch of posts from different people saying "haha +1 funny" after every joke. I miss it when I'm not on one of these newfangled crash-your-browser-with-OOM forums.
-

Yep. I made a comment to that effect when was still here and got a crying Indian image macro.
-
haha +1 funny

-
Wrong type of Indian. They don't all look the same, you bigot!
-
Ah. Coerection:

I'm in that mood for the moment.

depends on the moment. Training has occurred to improve real-world survivability (despite this being somewhat counter-intuitive).
