The :doing_it_wrong: of the discojuice huffing dude
-
About 20 hours ago some friend I didn't know I had kindly pointed me to this.
Now, I know nothing about you guys. So, hello! How are you? :)
You've just did there to me, what you seem to be accusing Jeff to do. Pre-judged without knowing enough. And boy, I'm a piece of work to digest, if you try...
I've tried digesting you, myself, as a group. For a little while. And decided to present myself here, give you some of my first impressions.
Now, I couldn't post what I was writing due to "new user" limitations to 2 links. Let me try to hack my way out of this by editing the post... ;P
Nope, doesn't work anymore. Any other clues? I got my topic in my pastebin, in case you want to help / hear more.
DoctorJones's profile in meta reminds me a lot of myself. I now can see how I could as well have been banned from meta as well. I really didn't thought, and I still don't think, they can be this aggressive as you're painting them. But, here, I'm supposing they are. Anyone can (as I already pointed). It's really hard to judge people, but sometimes we need to. I'm just glad I have never needed to judge anyone that far up to this day in my life.
Now, I'm not sure how to quote another topic:
next thing I know the topic is hidden/deleted
I find that part right there really hard to believe. In fact, I don't, but I wish I did. I've got a topic deleted for no good reason there already (and I'll edit this later to add the link if I can find my topic about it, which was there and not deleted for a while, now I don't know anymore). And I also got 1 PM from them warning me to "stop posting links to my stuff". Almost as if I were trying to spam / promote myself on purpose. Maybe I was, but it was never my intention to spam. Sometimes we do things wrongly unintentionally and it's important to hear the feedback.
But boy, do I hate when people delete things... I just despise that. It was really hard for me to swallow it.
And sure enough, it was deleted, right? Tell me about that feeling! ;P I wanted to read more about those quotes from Jeff, though. Usually I can make sense out of what he means. Maybe because I read his blog. But I can't make sense out of gauging the eyeballs and cutting the tongue. That was quite extreme thing to say. I'd still not try to take it personal.
Now, a ban... That's very personal.
I don't know. Just my initial thoughts. Still trying to wrap my head around this. ;)

This sounds promising... @PJH, @boomzilla, maybe you could bump the man to TL1 or TL2, if you think that's ok?
Also:
-
-
TL0->TL1 (which removes the 2-link restriction) can be done in 15 minutes - which has already happened in this instance.
or maybe not..
-
Well, he did it in 7 then

I bumped him to TL1, actually.

Discourse!
-
Ironic, really

You've just did there to me, what you seem to be accusing Jeff to do. Pre-judged without knowing enough.
That is quite the prejudgement you hve of us there.
Also, thats pretty self centered. What makes you special enough for us to form an oppinion?
Just posting some random stuff about Discourse only grants your entry level prejudgement!I've tried digesting you
We are multiple pieces of work to digest, if you try...Filed Under: Can we replace e-mail with this topic, pls?
-
No new posts... Maybe we scared him by being so ready to take our spanking?
-
You've just did there to me, what you seem to be accusing Jeff to do.
You mean witnessed first hand.I've tried digesting you, myself, as a group. For a little while. And decided to present myself here, give you some of my first impressions.
We don't care get to your point. It will not only become the wordpress of forums, it will probably become the google of talking.
That is a surprisingly accurate analogy of how most of us feel about about discourse.
-
More likely he's cheesing his brains out from huffing the disco juice.
-
Sorry, can't read replies right now. But already edited it as promised! ;)
Be back later.
-
Now, a ban... That's very personal.
Fun fact: Jeff missed my meta.d account in the initial banwave, so I PM'd him about it. And then I got banned.
to be fair I was a little antagonistic about it but still, that really highlights his megalomania.
-
Sorry, can't read replies right now. But already edited it as promised!

You understand, I hope, that we are not Discourse. In fact we're actively trying to get the fuck away from Discourse.
So when you're doing your pre-judging, present-judging or future-judging do be sure to separate the content&people from the platform.also: "Can't read replies right now"? As in cannot-cos-it's-broken or cannot-cos-I-have-more-important-things-to-do?

Now, a ban... That's very personal.
Those bans weren't "personal". As in we got banned for being members of this forum. Not because we - personally - did anything.
If you want, you can check my profile over at meta.d. Tell me the reason, I - personally - should have been banned. I don't think any of my topics have been hidden, either. So it's all there....I think I had 1 PM with a discourse developer (riking) in which we discussed a bug civilized.
What you don't see over there is the relationship we had over here. We know we weren't always the nicest people here (on our own forum). On meta.d we have been behaving pretty nicely (except that one Mr. Burns episode at the very beginning).
If you want to see how Codinghorror interacted on this forum, look for the user @end . @Sam has not changed his username.Filed Under: So... meh.... not going to replace anything with Discourse any time soon
-
You've just did there to me, what you seem to be accusing Jeff to do. Pre-judged without knowing enough.
Wait, did we accuse Jeff of pre-judging? I mean we've called him a narcissistic asshole, an egotistical fuckwit, and many worse things. But I'm petty sure we've never accused him of pre-judging. Unless you mean how we accused him of coming in and trying to force his method of communication on us, but he's openly admitted that he wants to change how internet forums work and make them more civilized, so that's both true and not pre-judging.
-
Oh Allah he's like Cuntwood. Instead of typing out a succulent (counter) point I'll point you to a blog post of mine that is three years out of date and mostly self masturbaturly bullshit.
-
Wait, did we accuse Jeff of pre-judging?
I'm waiting for the full post to see what he's trying to say.
-
I think @loopback0's due a TDWTF Siren badge. If he hasn't already got one--I can't tell because his profile's taking 17 discohours to load.
ETA: aaaaaand there it is.
-
What are you talking about. It's 502 OK

You've just did there to me, what you seem to be accusing Jeff to do.
Wow that's a sentence.
I don't know. Just my initial thoughts. Still trying to wrap my head around this.
Ok... what the fuck is this thread about? Incoherent blabbering?
-
Fun fact: Jeff missed my meta.d account in the initial banwave, so I PM'd him about it. And then I got banned.
He missed mine. He only banned me when I pointed out their adding a CDN to deliver avatars makes no sense when not a year ago they just removed Gravatar (a CDN that delivers avatars) on "privacy" grounds.
-
The guy was praising Discourse as the Second Coming of Awesome. He is here for his fair trial.
-
Ok well I didn't read that and as far as I can tell, the guy can't even write a paragraph that makes sense, so I'm inclined to not give a crap what he thinks.
-
I'm inclined to not give a crap what he thinks.
Pretty much. I'm mostly here for the inevitable lulz.
-
Ok wait, is this guy Erlend, the Discourse "community manager" guy mentioned in the Discopalypse thread? Is that what's happening here?
-
-
Oh so I was supposed to spend time on Meta.Discourse before looking at this thread? That ain't fucking happening.
Wait, "Google of communities?" What the fuck does that even mean?
It could even eventually resolve what's broken about email or messaging,
Certainly not messaging. It's not even as good at that as the previous forum we used here, Community Server, which was last updated in 2008.
-
No, it was mentioned in the first link that OP posted. Which is inside the topic you referenced....
So, you could have known about this before. Not that you had to.
Wait, "Google of communities?" What the fuck does that even mean?
We will maybe find out in this topic
Filed Under: Gotta give this guy some time. It can't be easy to defend Discourse and its devs

Wait, "Google of communities?" What the fuck does that even mean?
I thought he meant train wreck that is practically a ghost town now. Fairly apt comparison or wishful thinking?
-
No, it was mentioned in the first link that OP posted. Which is inside the topic you referenced....
So, you could have known about this before. Not that you had to.
Or!
He could have just typed what the fuck this thread was about right there in the first post, instead of blabbering for like 6 paragraphs about nothing.
Just a suggestion.
-
-
He's from meta.d. They are not used to those there.
What is he not used to? Speaking clearly, or at least understandably?
I mean, I've read his post and I don't have a fucking clue what he's talking about.
If this is what Discorse does to people, lets fucking move to ANYTHING ELSE (even phpBB).
-
some friend I didn't know
What the fuck "some friend I didn't know" even is? Are you one of those fuckin hipster types that go around all happy and smiling and talking about your thousands of internet friends?
Are you an ad?
-
-
I'm willing to, actually, despite my comment about the lulz up there. I want to try and understand why people think Discourse is so special.
I mean, imagine you're a new user. Imagine you didn't find all the bugs we did first hand. Imagine you don't know about the lingering ones. It looks pretty nice on first glance. It's relatively smooth, notifications are nice... there are nice ideas in it, if half-baked.
But after all, it's just a damned forum software. It won't change the fucking world. This is like having one of those people from Apple conference thing audience that scream ecstatically when Apple reveals that the new iPhone will have a screen half an inch larger right here on the forums. I find that fascinating.
-
Gotcha, but didn't he actually simply say "look at me, I have a lot of VERY IMPORTANT things to tell you about yourselves, now take a look at me, but you're gonna have problems, cause I'm soooo deep and complicated"?
I'm not even sure if he likes discourse or not, I mean, I don't have a fucking clue what he said, apart from the above overall feeling.
Plus, there is the difference between "learning why some likes something" and "digesting someone".
Filed under: I'm glad he didn't say "dissecting".
-
I can't tell because his profile's taking 17 discohours to load.
Our instance has grown too much for profiles to be reliable. I recommend going to the badges page (accessible via the hamburger menu).
I think @loopback0's due a TDWTF Siren badge.
Well, I don't think there's a way to give him one since he didn't create a topic that @cregox replied to. Unless we create a manual badge.
Eh...or it might work if we Jeff @loopbacks post to its own topic. Assuming the badge query looks at who wrote the OP, not who created the topic (though that's theoretically fixable). It all sounds like work.
-
Cut the guy some slack. He will be banned on meta discourse soon (for posting here) It is not the way to treat a comrade in arms.
-
I think you need to increase your post density. That is, you seem to be really good at typing words that don't mean anything...
-

You were too helpful, now he won't know what fun it is to figure it all out on your own!

What good are FAQs if nobody can find them?
-
What good are FAQs if nobody can find them?
Since asking questions on meta.d gets you banned, do they hook the viewing of the FAQ to an auto-ban controller? Like, if there were an answer for the FAQ of "Why do you deliver avatars by default from your CDN? Isn't that a privacy concern?", you could be banned for being a subversive individual.
Efficiency, gamification, fuckery. @end should love it.
-
So, does huffing discojuice scramble your mind? I'm confused
-
Not necessarily, sometimes it can successfully parse your thoughts using regex and MD5.
-
But I can't make sense out of gauging the eyeballs and cutting the tongue. That was quite extreme thing to say. I'd still not try to take it personal
I believe that was a Princess Bride reference, but, being Jeff, he of course had to be , so instead of "to the pain", he said "to the death".
