Side WTF: Chrome uses 33% of my GPU just to initially load the forms before dropping to 0%, and then whenever NodeBB has the blue spinner in the top right corner of the screen Chrome uses 66% of my GPU and video playback in other tabs starts to stutter despite being fully downloaded already. When Chrome and NodeBB are not loading, scrolling around and such has very minimal impact. The forums being slow is literally making my machine slow.

But wait... the spinner isn't a gif...

This doesn't look like a DDoS based on page views.

If it's a complete coincidence, then could it be the news thread rolling over some magical length? Too long to index?

That shows US EDT, because that's my time zone.

Welp...I did an

So, all the people of New Zealand decided to pull up WTDWTF when they got into the office in the morning, starting at 08:00 local time?

If it's any long thread I'd bet on Likes or Status
-
@hungrier likes is pretty dead. I assume status isn't but I ignore that time sink unless I get mentioned or it gets flagged.
-
@hungrier And if it has more to do with post payload then we should look at the crossword thread pounding the database with huge chunks of data...
-
@boomzilla I have Likes ignored, but regularly participate in Status
-
@JBert "Huge chunks of data" being 32kb, which is a lot for a (nominally) text based post but shouldn't be much trouble for a database. Besides, since the cooties started the bot hasn't been doing so hot
-
@JBert said in Moar Cooties:

Doubt it. Threads mostly load fine. It's building topic lists (especially unread) that really lag.
-
@boomzilla Topic lists are slow. I'd need to load a few more topics to see, but short topics like this one usually load very quickly and longer ones like Funny Stuff or Status take quite a while.
Maybe the server needs a shiny new Optane drive for database storage?

My "Unread" has been at 99+ since day 1. If it actually lists every post that I haven't read, that's probably 90% of all posts. Ever. And I can't be the only one.
Also, I second that the first pageload of the thread listing, before I logged in, was faster.
-
@acrow I'm pretty sure it only goes back 3 months.
-
There's a cutoff on
/unread
.The fact it takes so long to load the first page and then instantly loads the second page makes me wonder if initially it's actually loading just the first page.
-
@loopback0 That's probably an artifact of the way SPAs work.

Well, the vacuuming seems like a necessary thing, but also something that it should be doing automatically, but it clearly hasn't been, since I've been doing it on about a weekly basis, with definitely noticeable results as the interval goes over a week. It's kind of become part of my Monday routine.
Is there a reason you run this, and not, say, cron?
Well, the reason for running this has already been described, while @boomzilla running cron probably would have no effect on the database.
-
I haven't read the whole thread, so this is probably already mentioned somewhere. But I've noticed that WTDWTF has been extremely slow to load the past week or so. At first I thought maybe my workplace had slowed it down when they realized I was coming here a lot, but then I noticed that it's real slow at home too.

Yeah, the database has effectively exploded, and nobody has been able or something to figure out why.

So... on the plus side, cooties seem to have vanished. On the minus side, all messages posted during the last two weeks seem to have vanished, too.

for every blessing there must be a commensurate cost.
two weeks of your life is a high cost indeed to have required.....

There's A REASON I POST HERE! wetware retention rates for this unit are frankly abysmal. Without digital storage here (and elsewhere), I literally can't remember shit that's happened in the past (well, 94.809 percent of last events, estimated, at a range of one week. Gets worse the wider the range).
I'm basically experiencing partial amnesia at the moment and its highly annoying...

and i imagine both Borderlands3 and WTDWTF are missing at least the last two weeks of work...... becuase you know one's something produced by a money grabbing sentient cesspit, and the other's WTDWTF.

OK, that's got my attention. Weekends shouldn't look like that. Let's see if anyone in the restarts looks funny...

They're trying to download the Internet before the Great Firewall gets too high.

Huh. That's coming from a German IP. User agent:
"Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0"
But definitely looks like it's scraping.
