Moar Cooties

@mott555
You have a crazy definition of "works fine", since clicking on to go back to the main page (which is effectively /recent) is slowYes. Even going directly to a post/topic in the same tab from a link or notification is slooooow. It's even worse attempting a new tab.
-
I'm seeing a long delay when loading recent/unread or the category list, but other things like loading topics (even in a new tab) and notifications work fine.
e: The network tab in devtools shows that it spends almost 30 seconds in the "Waiting (TTFB)" step

I think if you compare your experience with mine, we must have encountered some kind of conservation law that physicists have never noticed before.
-
@hungrier I figured that was because of the CenturyLink attacks.

@mott555 said in Moar Cooties:
@boomzilla Fun fact, that is the only website I've ever been banned from.
How many bugs have you reported on other sites?
-
@Gąska Not sure. I've probably reported a few dozen bugs at a few different forums for certain early-access video games. It's certainly a lot higher than the 1 bug I recall reporting for Discourse.

It’s a shame @Karla got IP banned, I’ll miss getting judo chopped.
-
FWIW, I'm still seeing long loading times, but only for Recent. Unread and individual topics are fine.

did a database analyze:
INFO: "legacy_hash": scanned 30000 of 320098 pages, containing 323050 live rows and 37086 dead rows; 30000 rows in sample, 3446922 estimated total rows
gonna vacuum now. tidy up a bit.

@JBert The site looks like NodeBB, but feels like Discourse.
I wish this were true. Although looking like Discourse would be even better.

On the other hand, we can freely discuss mayonnaise and cilantro now.

I vote for keeping the coriander ban, evil soap-weed

It seems like the cooties are running around again. Is the tax man pulling some shit again?
-
@ben_lubar @boomzilla ^^^

Could that have been me installing security updates for nginx?
-
@ben_lubar I don't think so, unless you're still installing them, because the cooties are still cootie-ing, although not as much as earlier.
-
Yeah, the cock-a-roaches are still scurrying through the walls at 0430 US/Eastern.

... And at 0900.

Someone ban @Karla again, the True Frontpage is slow loading.
-
20 hours later, the cooties still seem really bad.
-
Notably, it's only the topic lists like unread and recent. Topics themselves are the regular kind of slow.

And 38 hours later, /unread is taking 14.70 seconds to load.
I daresay the security updates broke something.

Interesting, my /unread is only 6.22 seconds, but I only have 23 topics in the list. Correlation?

I'm seeing nearly the same as that for unread and the forum root page, my little thingy says 99+.
-
Definitely a bot spike yesterday:
Looks like google smartphone bots, which didn't seem to be so good at following the limiters in robots.txt.
-
@boomzilla still having issues with first page load per session. Very slow initial connection. Much faster when loading /unread vs /recent, at least when there are only a few entries. And I was having big issues starting Friday morning.

I don't think so; at the time I had zero unread.

Dang, you seem to be correct. Maybe something is making a server-side http request and timing out?

Things are horrendously slow this morning. I think the server cooties are just dancing all over the server. Really cooting a rug there.
-
+1ing the above... /unread and /recent have been extremely slow, often in excess of 15s, basically continuously since Saturday morning. @admins is this a known ongoing issue that’s being worked on? Or are you not able to reproduce the problem?
-
@izzion it's slow for me, too. Seems like we (by which I mean @ben_lubar) need to have the DB vacuum'd out again.
-
@boomzilla
Maybe we should get a Roomba ... Cat optional
-
@Luhmann
Pretty sure the cat comes standard with Linux hardware.
-
@izzion
I think you are confused with pinguin ... The other deeply disturbed pet
-
It's still slooooooow.
-
I'm pondering poking @accalia to see if she wants to resurrect ServerCooties for this...
-
@Tsaukpaetra I think the site code was on github. I'd not recommend poking her though.

Not that kind of poking!

I figured out enough npm stuff to make it work.
