Are you suggesting a programming language my Grandma could use would necessarily be a bad thing?

marginalising Grandma
The reason that "Simple enough for Grandma" is a cliché is because it's very often true. Older people who didn't grow up with computers and have less brain plasticity than when they were younger find it hard to pick up computing concepts. This is a fact, and is not a nasty thing to point out. When you go overly politically correct you give the anti "SJW" idiots more ammo.
Ahem...
You don't even see it when it's clearly pointed out to you.
This is a bullshit excuse and you know it. You sound like my seven-year-old making terrible excuses for poor behaviour.
-
Go's type system is so simple an entity that is capable of using simple type systems could use it.
-
So, Delta Air Lines has a (new?) marketing campaign.

Probably something to do with the rafsi (analogous to roots when compounding lobjan words). He's actually going to have to say "x1 reacts to x3 by protecting x2 from the danger x1 perceives x3 represents" before he can expect understanding though, and laughter or even half-hearted smiling is just completely inaccessible at this point.

The prevailing opinions on this forum are way, way against you, and nobody is interested in being convinced they're wrong, because they're obviously right, otherwise they wouldn't think what they think.
Oh, I thought it was some kind of political extremist troll contest. Have I been ?

Hey mister, stop marginalizing your seven-year-old!

We, straight male idiots, also want to get laid, so it's a good thing some women are.

Oh christ. Smashing 4 different markup systems together is hard!
failing !

To say nothing of the fact that most entity names use dashes anyway, so the team have gone out of their way to make their translated :emoji: names collide with Berkdown in the first place...

Well, that's just because you're over-specifying your statement.
All people eat watermelon and fried chicken. Because they're delicious.

Do you see the difference? The del'd one is good for a joke, while the ins'd one is good for a punch.
Plus:
“Go’s type system is so simple even my grandma could understand it.”
So it's not about grandmas in general, it's about the one particular grandma -- the poster's grandma.
For example, if I said that, since both my grandmas are dead, it would mean that it's dead simple.

Do you understand Go's type system?

That's great, but I know nothing about the poster's grandma. Maybe she's Ada Lovelace, maybe she's Linda Lovelace. The joke relies on her being old and female.
For example, if I said that, since both my grandmas are dead, it would mean that it's dead simple.
Since you have explained that your grandmas are dead, your joke works quite well. It relies on them being dead, not old and female.
EDIT: Missed opportunity for "Yo gramma" joke.
-
I find this all highly entertaining. There's a whole discussion here disregarding both the intent of the joke (which is immediately interpreted as malicious) and assumes that, in this case, a hypothetical grandma has no sense of humour whatsoever.
How about this proposition: TDWTF is inhabited purely by male asocial programmers who only see daylight when they have to leave their basements to commute to work.
Blatant falsehoods of above:
- not all members of this forum are male
- some members are highly social, both online and in meatspace
- we don't all live in basements
- some of us work from home
- some of us aren't even programmers
Did anyone bat an eye at the statement though? Maybe 0.000001% of you, if anyone at all. Let's examine why:
- you assumed my intent wasn't to offend anyone
- you all realized I don't actually think either or all of the things are said are true, I'm just using them for comedic effect
So why is the grandma joke, apparently, offensive then? Objectively? Go on, analyze it. Tell me. You know what I see?
- the person who made the joke was immediately classified as an asshole, because raisins
- you're assuming that the grandma is humourless and defenseless against that humour - give her some damned credit FFS
INB4 harmful stereotypes: you're assuming that anyone reading that joke is also a humourless jerk who won't get that it's a joke and will just nod in agreement and assume that the grandma is stupid without employing any of their life experience or critical thinking.
I know we're all cynical here about our "cow-orkers" and "lusers" (those two are also horrible, are they not), but I tend to give my fellow humans at least some benefit of the doubt before judging them as absolute morons. Maybe I'm the stupid one for doing that?
-
So why is the grandma joke, apparently, offensive then?
Because the Interweb is full of over-sensitive SJW cock-sockets.
-
That's great, but I know nothing about the poster's grandma. Maybe she's Ada Lovelace, maybe she's Linda Lovelace. The joke relies on her being old and female.
The joke relies on the poster's implicit claim that she knows nothing or very little on the topic, but would be able to grasp that.
I don't really get where you're coming from. I mean, as a rule grandmas are bad with computers, or other novelties or with a lot of other stuff like sports etc, due to biology. Sure, there are exceptions, but they are relatively rare. So the joke works, everybody knows what it's about and everybody keeps loving their grams (ofc except for those who were hurt by them, or are crazy, or whatever).
I'd understand if you were opposing "a woman could do it", or, although I wouldn't necessarily agree, "my girlfriend could do it". But opposing the "grandma" thing is really a bit to much for me.
-

Just setting yourself up for disappointment. You'll learn.

Oh, I expect failure most of the time. But in those few instances when I don't fail, it's usually worth the effort.

You forgot one:
- SJWs don't consider jokes about cis white males to be offensive because privilege

LED bulbs are better. They still contain toxic waste but it's less likely to jump out and kill you.

I still like halogen bulbs the most.

I can't believe we live in a world where you can get banned from a technical forum for making salty attempts at humour. What if I wanted to post them a picture of my balls? Would the Go community shun me too?! It's political correctness gone mad!?!

I live in Washington State and it's November, so no. I never see daylight ever.
