if someone uses the word "cis" to describe a straight person, I have a good idea they're pretty deep into the LGBT community. I don't need to hear their long in depth explanation of why we should use that term instead of "straight," or they're not exactly the same or whatever.

"Cis" doesn't mean straight - it means your gender identity aligns with your assigned sex.

I usually stay silent about this shit, but tonight... tonight I'm in a bit of a mood. So here goes.

Split that shit in its own topic if you want, so I can mute it. Same goes with politics and religion. I won't even tell you what my stance on the subject is, because it doesn't fucking matter. This is a god damned techie forum. I'm not saying don't discuss this stuff. Go for it! But split this shit in its own damned topic because you damned well know it's a huge flame and troll bait. And you know it will turn into another rolling 1k+ post thread that goes on, and on, and on, with same actors and same shit over and over again.

Some of us don't want that shit in our regular damned threads. We come here to bitch and moan about tech and our coworkers, and their damned code. Hell, and ours as well. If I want to discuss this stuff there's damned tumblr, and twitter, and probably 10 fucking 1k+ threads already. And I'll come there when I feel like it.

Now, do I have to flag shit or can someone please split this so I can argue with @ben_lubar about how Go sucks in god damned honest to nerd peace?

When I was young my cousin and I were out playing in the neighborhood at my grandma's house, and this other kid who I didn't know came up to us holding a frying pan and telling us to get down and kiss the ground, with out motivation supposedly being the threat of a bashing with said pan. My cousin, the younger of the two of us, did so more-or-less immediately. But I, not exactly a small child, decided to take a different option and quickly wrested the frying pan out of the other kid's hands. Said kid immediately proceeded to run home, while we went back to our grandparents' house (leaving the frying pan at the mail boxes) where our grandmother kept us inside because she was afraid of retribution. The other kid, you see, was black, and my grandparents (particularly my grandmother) were under the impression the neighborhood was slowly being infested with druggies and gangs. It turned out, however, that the white guy a few doors down eventually discovered to have been abusing his step-kids was a much more significant problem. Which is not to say he wasn't a concern either, but I don't think the extent of the problem with him was obvious until after the police gave him a ride.

Both have magic numbers. One uses < 8, the other <=7.
Why do we want an extra 8 room to be sure we can decrement by a number that doesn't include the 8?

I'm interested in hearing his arguments. I even asked some questions that didn't get answered. The grandma thing is stupid, because the cliche there is about people who grew up without some particular technology and are either too old to learn or have decided they don't want to learn. But SJW types have decided it's a slight on women, because that's what they look for.

Why not grandpa? Well, they tend to die a lot younger, so there are more old grandmas.

I don't understand why a comparison is needed. "Go's type system is simple" works just fine without marginalising Grandma. The comparison should be to something relevant, perhaps "Go's type system is simple compared to Javascript".
