User A: Accidentally posts solution (TL1)
User B: Abruptly reprimands the user with no constructive feedback (TL3)
User B + C: Harasses user A more and more.
Things to know: User B and C had done the same thing many times before. So this is not their first time. I do not know what actions I should take against those two? Any ideas?
Plot twist: User B and User C are Jeff and Sam.

@DoctorJones
Complete with the Jeff cameo:A poll is not a good idea here, I have removed it.
Though I'm a little disappointed that he also didn't lock the thread at the same time. Hopefully our Jeff isn't learning moderation in his moderation techniques.
-
@izzion Here we see Jeff the Hero heroically showing up after the thread is finished, and offering his indispensable help.

@hungrier said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
Jeff the Hero
We should create a comic book depicting the adventures of Captain D, and how he uses his superpowers not to solve problems people have (or even create new ones).

If someone abuses TL3 privileges, you can’t let them keep them. At least lock them to TL2 if you won’t ban them
Wow, it's almost as if basing how much a user is trusted on how many likes and posts they have isn't entirely accurate

Duh. You also have to track how many posts they've read. And for how many milliseconds each.

Nah, there's nothing wrong with answering a good, new question.
If only anyone ever posted one.

Yeah, that’s true. Imagine a big forum without moderators. That’s chaos!
Or a forum where every active member is a moderator?
Oh - wait - that's where we came in, isn't it?
-
@DoctorJones Wow, it's almost as if no technical solution can solve human problems and ensure civilised discourse. Who could have guessed that?
Also:
Imagine a big forum without moderators. That’s chaos!
/me looks around...
(inb4: we do have moderators, it's just that they don't do anything)
(alternate inb4: yep, "chaos" is a pretty good description of this place)

@dkf Considering the Americans, Europeans, and Australians were online, the only valid excuse seems to be taking a nap.

Or having lunch. Because fuck having lunch at the desk.
-
@dkf said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
Because fuck having lunch at the desk.
I almost always have lunch at my desk. That way, my lunch break is only ~5 minutes, or so, and I can go home that much sooner.
-
@HardwareGeek said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
I almost always have lunch at my desk.
Me too, mostly because my laptop has the internet and the alternative locations don't.
We have a canteen and several kitchenette areas to eat in but there are at least a couple of people who have their lunch sat in their cars in the car park.
-
@loopback0 said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):

We have a kitchenette on each floor, but there isn't really a place to eat in them, at least not the one on my floor. There's a small, standing-height table, but that's it.
I used to eat in the canteen, but since I can't eat the food they serve any more, there's really no point in taking my own food in there when my desk is closer.

Discourse somehow managed to implement classism into a web bulletin board.
New users are actively discouraged from participating.
Meh. They just copied that from StackOverflow.

Not when the automatic moderator is just as dickish as the author ("hey, this topic is closed because nobody
repliedbitchedCOMPLAINed in half an hour"), and when the peanut gallery is actually calling some of the shots (see the "too many community flags" closing reason in Ben's screenshot). No, the good kind of moderation is when the moderators are out of office.

I posted a bug report on the TypeScript repo. The first day it got tagged with Question. 60 days later it was auto closed for being a question with no activity, and the bot told me to go to StackOverflow. Except it was a bug report.

Consider the usual responses to a bug report.
Then, consider the usual responses to a question on StackOverflow. They're just outsourcing their unwillingness to help you.

Nah, a post above your own was deleted, shifting everything up and causing the permalink to thus shift down. Because that's what permanent links do...

@loopback0: looks like you've found other people from Earth-73:
As we all know, Discourse is the best forum software in the world with extreme customization and a user friendly interface. (...) I would only change that one thing about Discourse, everything else is pristine and perfect.
That price will suit a certain customer who appreciates the level of professional expertise only the writers can provide.
I wouldn’t change a thing, because every member in the staff is 100% active, receptive and open to suggestions and even constructive critics.
-

Please respect that the software no doubt costs millions of dollars to make and maintain per year
Um, CDCK is, what, 5 guys working out of their own homes and some unpaid community contributors? If they're paying themselves millions in salary, I think I need to learn RoR, post haste.
You also have to commend the company for putting such a huge effort into packaging the software and providing a very useful level of online support for all...
For all. Right. Unless you provide thousands of hours of unpaid, volunteer QA and report too many bugs.
... so that non-paying parties can utilise it
Just don't expect much in the way of support unless you pay for it.
