@PJH
That's just how the Discodevs write it. I prefer ISO8601.

Sep 15 = September 15th, this yearJust a reminder, the idiotic date formatting was the thing that pushed Alex (P, not M) over the edge to "fuck this pile of shit".
Also saying "we don't want to throw away all our tools for no reason"... booooolshit of the highest order. That is about the ONLY thing DiscoDevs do consistently.

@cartman82
It would be interesting (as a thought experiment, at least) to set up an A/B test with disco.what.thedailywtf.com on real tier hosting, and see which forum platform got better evaluation between Node and Discourse.<>Someone should write an API middle tier that plugs in to both forums and synchronizes posts between the two in real time</>

@cartman82 A polished turd may look slicker than shit but it is still a turd.
-
Please let me know if you feel otherwise, but IMO I'd rather have something that is lacking in features and rock solid, than something that has a shitton of tools and features but is held together with bubble gum and duct tape.
Classic forums aren't very pretty (also PHP) but the main feature (posting comments) works most of the time. Discourse and noBB does what phpBB don't, but it comes at the cost of shit constantly breaking and a clusterfucked, ad-libbed interface.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, fuck this shit
-
@bb36e NodeBB's biggest problem is still the NoSQL brainworm. That and the fact that it's written in Node.JS

Hmm....maybe we could sell downvotes.

@izzion quoted an idiot in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
In our community, there are some aggressive likers. They like things so often and so much that they often run out of their likes. For this case, I would like to let them buy some small portion of likes for some fraction of a dollar.

: unfortunately, the community edition of Discourse only supports 10 likes per user. To increase this limit would be a significant undertaking, but we would be willing to investigate it if you switched over to an enterprise installation.

That's not how Jeff works. Jeff answers the question he thinks should be asked because he knows best.

Of course. I'd direct your attention to Jeff's explanation of the DiscoDevs' coding practices, but search. For those of you who don't recall, it was one of Jeff's responses consisting of an image or video with no explanation. In this case, it was a music video of a song about smoking crack (or something like that).

I've tried to find that post before — or even just the thread — but it's possible it's been Jeffed away.
All I could find was this reference:

When one starts with no technical understanding of one's own, every technical decision one makes requires borrowing someone else's technical knowledge, putting oneself in technical debt. When one's entire company consists of technically incompetent people (:why_would_you_do_that.mp4:), one must borrow from third parties, and the interest rate on that debt can be a killer.

For most sane insane projects, yes. For Jeff, it's
"I don't wanna do that. The only reason I don't wanna is because you're asking for something I feelz you shouldn't need. YOU DON'T NEED THIS!!! So rather than admit that a customer may need something I feelz they don't need, I'll throw a tantrum about it being SO DIFFICULT TO DO!!! :stomp_feet: Why are YOU being so unreasonable about this? You're such a BAD PERSON for demanding us poor devs do something SO DIFFICULT just to address your petty, stupid, wrong thing. Really, you're the bad guy here!"

Last time Discourse had a database update, you had to run the rebuild command three times to get it running.
"Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out"

I should not be surprised, but I still am. Did they really manage to make Discourse updates harder and less reliable than Magento updates?
