: Our forum is encountering some UX problems with Discourse polls. Our users aren't finding them intuitive.
: Where is your evidence of these problems? I have literally never heard any of these complaints before from our 400+ hosted customers, or here on meta. I appreciate the effort, but "because you said so" is a weird way to propose changes.
: I apologise but this is all the evidence I can offer. Keep in mind that not having heard of these from 400+ hosted customers does not prove the inexistence of the problems either. Just for the record: This is not about me.Oooo, this guy just doesn't understand Jeff at all, he's actually trying to drag more people into the discussion.
: @uwe_keim @fefrei @Tom_Newsom@Yuun @thefreekick @gerhard @scombs @jomaxro As you liked the topic, would you like to elaborate on your opinion?
INB4:
: You seem to have mistaken this place for a democracy. Sorry but you're no longer welcome here.

Yeah, it's terrible for people to report what they've observed.
-
This reminds me of the disco development process.

Here's the picture I'm starting to get:
- Want to report an issue? Discourse is our bug tracker!
- Want to provide good explanations for your issue? Awesome!
- Want to provide PRs for your complaints? Great!
... - Don't want to pay us for hosting? :middlefinger: give us money or shut up you arbitrary rule-breaking moron.
-
I have literally never heard any of these complaints before
So, no bug can possibly exist unless it has been reported multiple times. Nor is it possible that you have heard it before but
forgotmemory-holed it. Well done.

Just starting? You're a bit slow, eh?
Well, he's new:
He didn't live the Discourse experience.

Alas NodeBBgun's notification menu is not appropriate for that, or I'd send @Tsaukpaetra a nyantification cat.
Funny, I got a notification for this post, but not @izzion's directly above...
Anything interesting I missed? (I ignored this topic for a while now, and now that I've been summoned, my last read bookmark is worth diddly..)
-
@Tsaukpaetra People post meta.d-fails. Usually pretty fun reads. Can Reccomend. 10/10.

This is the only topic in the bugs category which I don't ignore. So yes.

A'ight, un-ignored for now. We'll see where this train takes me.

@HardwareGeek also, the polls on discourse are indisputably bad UI

@pydsigner depends, are their admins still welcome there?

@boomzilla most of them probably haven't realised those posts are polls

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOL SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
-
@Lorne-Kates Lol classic "it's too hard! CLOSED WONTFIX"
-
@Lorne-Kates Also
DUBBLE BOOOOOOOOOOL SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
It's a mix of:
- Polls suck
- Polls don't work
- Bug
- Polls are exposing too much information
- Polls aren't exposing any information
- Bug
- Bug
- FUCKING HELL WHY IS THERE NO UI TO CREATE A POLL?!?!
Including this larff a larff:
This isn't some complicated poll either. 1 poll. 2 options. 10 People voted (each for the same option). Result? 110%.
-
@Lorne-Kates said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):

Perfectly cromulent result when the poll can have up to two answers.
-
The polls saga continues on Meta:
I agree with the OP, polls UX is unclear
Hey <bunch of guys who liked the topic>, since you liked this topic, can you also give your opinion please?
Yeah, check/radio boxes would make more sense
Agreed with some thing
In general I need to organically hear about this from other live instances, on their own, not in a topic specifically soliciting for it, or where you weirdly name-mention a bunch of people on meta begging them to support it.Jeff, you fucking dickwad.
At first, someone is willing to provide you with constructive feedback, which you dismiss because you've "never heard it before" and don't like making changes when one person says something.
Then, FOUR people support the OP. Four people take the time to write a reply and to provide input to make your product better. And you dismiss that too. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?

110% of people can't vote for the same option, even in a multiple-selection poll.
-
@ben_lubar Given it's Discourse, why would you assume they can't?

I've now posted a reply in which I call out on his bullshit (but then in some nicer words), so I'll probably get my post Jeff'd and my account status changed to within a couple of hours...

I see they've adopted the @Lorne-Kates model of development.
-
And there it is, 's response to my post.
Sorry, I need to hear it from independent Discourse instances. That's just how this works, and has always worked, as cited above.
I'll definitely keep this under advisement over time, but feedback from multiple independent sites is how this works, and how this has always worked.
If that is unacceptable to you, perhaps there are other places you would prefer to be right now?

I really hope you got a screenshot for

Hm, not the result I would have expected from Jeff. Inflicting pain and suffering is his more normal M.O.

Outside context, it sounds like he's saying subfolders are complicated ....

Flagged for excess logic in the discobashing thread.

Flagged for excess logic in the discobashing thread.I don't think it's excess logic. Just pointing out that Discourse is overly complex for a fairly common setup. Consider a paraphrase:
: Using a subfolder is doing it wrong.
-
On NodeBB, you just edit config.json to say
http://example.com/foo
instead ofhttp://example.com
.
-
@ben_lubar Sure, but think of all the engineering that must go into making that possible! ASTOUNDING
-
@boomzilla said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
@ben_lubar Sure, but think of all the engineering that must go into making that possible! ASTOUNDING
The only two states I can imagine are:
- You literally can't do it with the software unless you reprogram a [possibly large] portion of it
- Sure, just edit this [possibly obscure] configuration setting
Anything else I cannot comprehend. Although I'm pretty sure Discourse is a third category.
-
@ben_lubar Just think of how confused the CDNs will be by that slash!
-
@AlexMedia His next reply is even worse, he went on a long and - of course - extremely unprofessional rant:
Yeah, that's how you govern a community and encourage contributors, Jeff.
-
@asdf Sounds like he needs another stress reduction strategy. Or maybe he's just anxious because he knows September 10th is coming.

herp derp we blindly copied UI from somewhere
.... look, I know we all, at some point or another, blatantly copy code from somewhere. We just have the decency to not admit it, and not admit it's the best thing since shat bread. You should know this Jeff. YOU RUN ONE OF THE GODDAMN SITES MOST COPIED FROM.
fart fart WHY NO U DO BETTER?
They're proposing a better way. Asshole. A better way.
lol backwards lol
It's not "backwards". It's called fixing shit that's broken. You can whitewash it as a "course correction". But it isn't going backwards when you're about to step in a minefield, and backoff. It's called "realizing you made a mistake". Idiot.
copy design from site that does polls
You goddamn idiot. Have you ever tried to fill out an online survey? For anything? Every single one of those sites is a goddamn UI/UX rapeshow. 99.999% of online poll sites are one of two things:
- Absolute and utter aardvark shit that some art school reject turned CEO jizzed onto a poor Flash designer's face and shouted "MAKE THIS WORK!"
- Radio buttons and check boxes
Maybe there's that 0.001% of nicely designed AND usable sites. You didn't find it. You didn't copy it. Your polls suck.
bike-shedding
Don't. Don't you fucking even dare to accuse someone of bike-shedding, you completely un-self-aware stuffed fucktoy. Do. Not. Go. There.
organic bullshit buzzword
Shut the fuck up, you gobbing idiot. You don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. This feedback did come "organically" from someone who is using the poo-covered corn kernels you call software. You know how discussions happen? BY PEOPLE FUCKING DISCUSSING IT. You goddamn idiot. You stupid motherfucking goddamn arrogant shit pie.
Isn't the whole goddamn thesis of your fucking useless piece of shit software to ENCOURAGE DISCUSSION? Rational, civilized "discourse"? How the fuck do you think that happens? BY FUCKING DISCUSSING IT! Which is what people are fucking doing, you wadded up piece of gum stuffed into a hooker's ass. Likes are to encourage people to support an idea and to lead into a discussion WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU DESIGNED AS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING.
Never. Never. EVER. Tell. Your. Users. To. Shut. Up.
Fuck this. I'm done ranting. I'm posting this in response to that thread. My account needs to be banned anyways.
